Just came off as a lighthearted joke/teasing the Phandom since why else would he leave it in after editing?

I don't think Marcus edits his videos. In the start he addresses Matt, and Matt is the guy who researches/produces/manages Marcus Butler's second channel. (This is based on a quick google of "Marcus Butler Gleam Matt" if you're curious.)

I don't think it's a huge leap to assume Matt edits the videos too, and who knows how involved in the inside workings of the youtube community (outside of his own job) Matt actually is.

[offtopic]I haven't seen anyone mention Marcus latest video 'GUESS THE YOUTUBERS REAL NAME 2"- it mentions Dan and Phil and featured something that made me surprised: he tries to guess people’s full names and rightly guesses that Dan's middle name is James. Afterwards his friend off-camera says “You love him” and Marcus answers “sorry phil sorry phil”. Like? He said it (imo) in a completely genuine tone and not sarcastic at all and I mean, how can you interpret that in a non romantic way? It doesn't really surprise me that he would say it even if only meaning it in regards to their clear chemistry and closeness and stuff, but to keep it after editing knowing how people would interpret it makes me .[/offtopic]

I interpreted his comment as him saying that he loves Dan, out of the duo D+P. (Like he likes Dan better, though he never directly said this.) I guess I can see the other interpretation also.

When I first watched it I immediately interpreted it as implying that he was sorry to Phil because dnp are in a relationship and he's just made a flirtatious comment toward Phil's partner. Whether there was any element of truth to this or whether he said this to bait dnp's viewers I wasn't sure.

But I think spaceguitar could also be correct, in that Marcus meaning "sorry Phil for focusing on Dan and not you, as out of your duo I prefer Dan" would make a lot of sense. I really don't know, I think either of those interpretations are equally possible

For me, if it were a "sorry for focusing on Dan" he could've repeated it again when he failed to get Phil's name right too, but he didn't. Unless they just reordered the footage in editing and it was a "sorry Phil, for getting Dan's name right and not yours". But why not just order the list before it's filmed.

Right now, though, they are undoubtedly happier and closer to each other than they have ever been. I can't think of a reason why that would change anytime soon. It's such an unlikely scenario to me that I find it masochistic to think about. Everything points to them moving forward in life together, not apart.

I personally interpret his comments as a "sorry for coming for your man, phil." Because there's no real indication that he's thinking about not knowing Phil's name or preferring Dan. Matt says that he loves Dan, and Markus apologizes for that. And the sexting video probably put the concept of him/dan in his head. So that's the first thought to pop into his mind and after that his instinct is to apologize to Phil.

The only way it really makes sense that he was apologizing to Phil for forgetting his name but remembering Dan's is if it was edited out of order.

I can't see how the second context idea works, since they're only discussing Dan because his name was in the game. There was no reason to apologise for forgetting Phil or not mentioning him too, his name just wasn't in the game, and I'm guessing Marcus didn't know the list of people before filming so the comment about him loving Dan was unplanned. It doesn't make sense to me personally how it can be anything other than the suggestion nobody else can fawn over Dan than Phil?? Lol. Thus an apology was necessary? It's all very odd haha.

I agree with you, I'm not a big fan. Last year he snapchatted a picture of himself eating watermelon with the black woman emoji on top, which is blatantly racist and disgusting. Ever since then I've been pretty wary of him tbh. And yeah, I haven't seen the video with Connor and Troye but that does sound pretty invasive/mildly fetishistic. I definitely don't trust him, that's for sure!
