Eh that was so-so.
Felt almost short and rushed to me.
I liked how energetic he seemed though.
Lots of spons thrown in.

He was in a good mood, I liked it. Nothing super exciting but it's so pleasant to just listen to him talk about inconsequential things.

But we did also get confirmation that he and Dan went with his parents to see Book of Mormon (in circle seats; that's the expensive tickets, I'm guessing?) so that's nice.

I really enjoyed that live show. We got quite a few opinions.

Seems like Phil is finally able to look after his houseplants. That is progress.

Storms make Phil feel on edge.

Phil really likes vacuuming. Deal with it.

The hippo lamp was way smaller than I thought it was.

I did know that hippos were very dangerous animals.

Phil thinks that death by hippo sounds pretty good. I like the mood that he is in. :D

I agree with Phil that people should at times leave their cameras behind and live in the moment.

He was so excited over the newly discovered 7 planets, cute.

I also think that there has to be aliens (other life forms) out there.

Phil thinks that Arrival is the best movie of the Oscar nominated ones.

He got a nice new jumper.
And a happiness scent spray, because of course.

Phil got a bit bored watching Moonlight.

He didn’t get that people wanted him to try on the troll wig that Dan talked about in his live show.

Final Fantasy XV talk. It’s a very bro quest kind of thing apparently. If it were four women instead of bros Phil would still equally want to play it. Nice mention.

Lol Phil gave the troll wig away to charity shop, along with some other things they were donating.

Dan did go see The Book of Mormon with Phil and his parents. Cute.

We will be getting a new gaming video tomorrow, a 30 min one which is also a Dan vs Phil. Sounds good.

Oscar party this weekend. Hopes he can stay awake for the whole thing since he usually falls asleep at around 3:30 am.

He thinks that Interstellar got snubbed a few years back.

Dan and Phil watched speed last week and Speed 2 last night. He enjoyed it.

And Phil ends the live show on some spon and TV recs.

Phil is such a precious human being Sadly, I missed most of his ls, but since I can rewatch it, it's fine. From what I've seen, it was a really nice one.

30 mins video tomorrow evening
I have no life, so I will be able to watch it, I guess

Btw, I'm so glad they put their ls on their channels now. I can hide the chat window, don't have to see the stupid YouNow bars and whatnot and don't have to wait for phanshows to put it up when I want to rewatch it. I mean, there was always tumblr but watching there wasn't the greatest experience and it is often laggy when it isn't on YouTube. At least for me.

I really enjoyed this LS. He had opinions and he was a bit feisty and occasionally he pulled a few Dan-isms. My favorite kind of Phil.

The show was about 47 minutes and it just got me thinking how we're all used to Phil's liveshows being shorter now? And it just sort of feels like the way Dan and Phil do everything. Slowly get us used to an idea: almost nonchalantly, maybe with a couple of excuses here and there..... until it becomes such a normal thing. Well, I see you and your shorter liveshows, Phil. And the changes in behavior with Dan. You ain't playin' anyone.

The hippo lamp is somewhat less terrifying knowing that it's tiny. Still looks like it's crying from being flayed, though. As long as he likes it. :wtf:
Also I want that bird sweater, and I'm looking forward to seeing it on him.
Also also ty Phil for reminding me that I still haven't seen Arrival. Maybe something to do this weekend.

I agree, especially the blatantly-changing-in-same-room and not being afraid to put it on the internet incident - even Dan joking about cat whiskers being his 'kink' has strong phan connotations

My Dan liveshow notes:
I can't really remember how to write liveshow notes, but voila:

00:00 Am appreciative of the beanie because it is not an animal onesie.

00:00 - 04:15 Nothing exciting happens. I get told I need jesus but I'm not sure why.

04:15 I leave for kitchen because that's where the food is but send laptop flying off bed. Moment of concern for Dan, overridden by concern for my laptop.

05:12 Big Eyes.

06:09 Cow Chicken Story is hilarious & have forgiven him for falling off bed, particularly as laptop seems unharmed.

05:53 eyes eyes eyes eyes

08:00 - He refuses to accept hat compliments, instead by some amazing feat of logic somehow constructs it into an insult towards how he usually dresses.

8:30 yes dinof please

It sounds to me like he was talking about two different videos. The first video is the 'cheeky' one that is a 'big deal' but 'not' that big. The second video is cringey and funny and is about his life being turned into a joke - it will probably be the video after next.

11:12 How the hell did his brain go from the minor salad-in-the-bin incident to 'I could kill somebody'?!

14:35 Millionaire YouTuber mourns the loss of £3.26. Violins were not heard.

20:15 To the question 'Can you sing?' he answers that he doesn't know. Differs from his previous answer that he feels he doesn't have a nice voice but knows the technique.

24:26 He says he hasn't gone outside today. He may not be lying he may have just forgotten? Or maybe he just doesn't want a barrage of questions about where he was going and decided it would just be simpler to say he didn't go out? Maybe he just didn't want to draw any attention to where he goes because of safety/avoiding stalkers.

27:00 "...tin foil hat. Next week I'll come back and there'll be a tin foil beanie and we'll spend the entire liveshow talking about conspiracy theories - does that sound fun?". Well, actually yes....................

30:23 Are we still interested in male attraction mentions?

30:40 Dan drumming on the screen is the least relaxing thing I've ever heard in my life jesus make it stop
Promptly followed by slapping of the camera with strange red object and loud clattering I'm so stressed.

(What's softer, Dan or cotton wool?)

42:20 He has good childhood memories about visiting New Zealand so that's a Nice Thing.

44:48 Who goes to all the trouble of re-piercing their ears for a video, and then forgets to use the earrings in the video?

49:30 The "hobbit here's here to stay" for a while.

57:04 I do not need these images.

I really enjoyed the liveshow. Though I usually get bored when he forgoes the philosophical discussion for the music/tv recommendations I didn't this time. I think it's because there were lots of hilarious danecdotes in there, and honestly I just enjoy listening to him talk

this is really random, but imagine a series about a person working in the thrift shop on deppy's street. they have no idea who deppy are or what they're doing for a living, all they know is they drop by every two weeks or so with a bunch of the weirdest shit saying things like "oh yeah we didn't really need that anymore". the thrift shop clerk is left in confusion and mild disturbance while they take yet another unpacked wig to the back room.
thank's you were great

I loved the ls today. Phil was just strikingly radiant tonight with his bright smiles, tangential chatter and just some selfless positivity that I definitely needed today. Not that I needed any reminding, but it blows my mind sometimes that this beautiful, generous and considerate man chooses to communicate with millions and being privy to moments in live-shows when his off-camera personality shines through is truly a rare blessing
I don't have a lot to say but not going to apologise for feeling extra Phil trash

Looking forward to the video tomorrow, both of them seemed to have loved filming it, hope it as a Bubble Bobble vibe to it

I didn't mind that liveshow, wasn't super interesting but it picked up about half way through. Phil's live shows are always just so pleasant, and I always leave them feeling very endeared to him. I especially enjoyed his remarks about Final Fantasy XV, and how it's lacking in diversity. I'm glad he picks up on that sort of thing, I imagine there are a lot of gamer guys who wouldn't give a shit about something like that. Also confirmation that Book of Mormon was for his mum's Christmas present, nice. I'm intrigued about the gaming video tomorrow, sounds really interesting!!

I also need him to know that he won't need super strength sun screen when he comes to Australia as it'll be mid-Autumn, so not particularly hot (especially in Melbourne). April is usually pretty miserable weather-wise here (averaging 12-17 degrees Celsius), despite the misleading name of 'Cool for Summer' festival.

[offtopic]Am I they only one who really didn't enjoy Arrival? I got so bored by it I nearly fell asleep and I feel like something's wrong with me as everyone I know who saw it loved it. Please tell me I'm not alone.[/offtopic]

by Phil in his ls today:
- Overreacting weather reports
- Person in chat watching him and 1D at the same time
- The sky
- Himself (for being clumsy)
- Anyone who dare judge his hair hovering fetish
- Anyone in the world who isn’t following him on Twitter
- People who thought his hippo lamp was a pig. I mean, come on, learn yo’ animals
- A website for trying to get that cash though ad clicks (somenervemistermerchsponanminute)
- Some poor hippo in his death-by-hippo-mauling fantasy
- “Horrible” zoos (rightfully so)
- People who look at life through their screens rather than watching it with their naked eye
- His top fans (by unapologetically giving them deadly animals)
- This past winter in London (for lack of snow)
- Someone watching from jail (when phones are banned)
- That person who typed “U” in the chat (I think…it froze around there)
- Himself again for telling the answer to “how many fingers?”
- People who don’t believe in aliens
- Hogwarts (too dangerous)
- Narnia (too dangerous)
- Ghibli-verse (too dangerous)
- Middle Earth (too dangerous)
- Him and Dan playing the Sims
- The Happiness spray (for saying “power”)
- People who type “…” in their texts (Dan?)
- Inedible moss on cocktails
Bottom line: Whatever that mood the weather put him in was, I thoroughly enjoyed it

Oscar noms: "Moonlight" was good; "Fences" was a really good. "La La Land," meh (maybe I should have seen it in the theater vs. DVD.) "Manchester By the Sea" was really good. "Arrival," was good, but had a simplistic subplot - I'm not sure why it's nominated. "Hacksaw Ridge" was good (and extremely violent.) But my fav is "Hidden Figures." It won't win, but it was an awesome composite story (although I have some production design notes.)

Loved the liveshow, he was in such a bubbly mood, extra hyper thanks to the weather, his cheeks were pink and pretty too. I was wondering about how much quieter and more serious he is in older liveshows when I see clips, he's way different compared to now. Is he happier now or just ramping it up on purpose? Or was he sometimes like this back then too?

[offtopic]I loved Arrival so freakin much…it kept me on the edge of my seat til the end, even though it was a late night screening starting at half eleven. Loved the look of it, it felt "round" (lol) as a whole, loved me some Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner but most importantly, thinking about her decision still feels like a punch in the gut even months after seeing it. (+I've always been a sci-fi-girl)

But I can understand how someone might get bored. The movie just got to me, but it wasn't the same for you. Just like Phil got a little bored watching Moonlight even though he thought it was objectively a good movie. Enjoyment of something is purely subjective. Speed 2 is a dumb movie but I can see how you can have fun watching it when in the right mindset. I always end up switching to Con Air when its on tv even though I know it's the dumbest shit ever.

Do you think Arrival is objectively a bad movie? Maybe it was already too hyped up for you and just didn't meet your expectations. I went in knowing next to nothing, maybe that even improved it for me.[/offtopic]

To stay at least a little bit on topic: I like that Phil isn't afraid to admit that he got a little bored watching a critically acclaimed, important movie and that he enjoys watching dumb action movies sometimes.

[offtopic]I think objectively it was a good movie, maybe it just wasn't for me? I really overhyped it as I thought it looked amazing from the trailer, so maybe that's where I went wrong! I thought Amy Adams was great, though her character felt a little bland to me. I guess I just felt it tried to tackle too many things, and while it was ultimately quite poignant (the soundtrack was gorgeous) it maybe just wasn't what I was expecting and ultimately fell a little flat. I can definitely see how people enjoyed it though![/offtopic]

As for Phil and Moonlight, I was kind of torn as ultimately he's entitled to his opinions and has every right to find Moonlight boring, but I did wish he'd acknowledged how culturally important the film is for black gay men in particular. I don't think it's really comparable with Manchester by the Sea, as while both are serious films Moonlight tells a story that's very rarely allowed to be told. Personally I loved Moonlight, it was definitely slow but I thought the performances were incredible and it really moved me. Obviously that's just my opinion, and it would be totally hypocritical of me to have a go at him for disliking it since I just went off about how I disliked Arrival. But yeah, I think Dan handled it a bit better in his liveshow, mentioning that just objectively it deserves the Oscar. (I also got the vibe Dan genuinely enjoyed the film more than Phil did, but again, subjective opinions yada yada yada).

I know I'm probably getting on a thin ice here, but I kind of share Phil's opinion. I think that the movie is really culturally important and all of the main character actors were amazing but from the nominated movies I loved Hidden Figures and Arrival more. It's just really subjective. Yes, it deserves the Oscar, I even think that it will win, but I enjoyed the other movies more. Last year the Oscar went to Spotlight. Again, it was very important movie and the actors gave great perfomances, but for me The Bridge of Spies or The Martian were just more enjoyable. That is not me saying that Spotlight didn't deserve the win, it surely did. I think that Phil will not be mad if Moonlight wins but just in his eyes Arrival was better. Forgive me if it doesn't make sense. I'm really bad at expressing my thoughts in a different language.

Don't worry, you definitely make sense! And tbh yeah I agree with you, all the nominated films were nominated for a reason and personal taste definitely comes into play. I actually think you have a point about Hidden Figures in particular, in that it is arguably just as culturally important as Moonlight but is often ignored. But yeah, ultimately no one's obliged to like/dislike any film and opinions are completely subjective. I do think you're right and that Phil actually liked Moonlight and would be happy for it to win, I just think the comparison to Manchester by the Sea was a bit off and fails to encompass the brevity and importance of Moonlight.

papierklemmen wrote:oh boy. :? the day dan joins the Filmmakers™ crowd of youtube and starts producing ~films~ will probably be the day i check out for good. he's been slightly annoying with his "good content" whinery lately but i pray it'll never reach the levels of jack howard/hazel hayes. as for chat shows or sitcoms... honestly, at this point it's pretty obvious that traditional media and "content creators" don't mix well. grace flopped, tyler oakley flopped, and their channels lost views in the process. deppy can do whatever they want, and they probably do want because no way they will find just youtube satisfactory after all the outside experience, but gotta choose wisely because they're way past their prime. also, they are not good at actings and they are very awkward interviewers. idek.
Haha I must say I totally agree - sorry this is kinda late. Personally, I watch YT for light entertainment - if I wanted to watch those artsy films, I would search out famous films that experiment with techniques and cinematography etc. I wouldn't really go to YT for that. I watch D&P for laughs and banter so if they cease to provide it, then I just won't watch it anymore, simple as that. And that's how it probably works for most people too I think - just because they're a fan now doesn't mean they will be forever especially if the content changes drastically.

As for the liveshows, I love Phil's as usual - it's so soothing and relaxing like a podcast (like he said) that I can just put on in the background. Dan's is a bit less relaxing to listen to and sometimes I just turn it off.

He does seem to have some problem with taking himself too seriously or comparing himself to the filmmaker group - doesn't he know that there are different forms of entertainment, purposes and contexts? There doesn't have to be a hierarchy between "low" and "high" art - where "low" art would be Phil's type of dressing up videos etc. and "high" art would be the pretentious filmmaking types. I really don't understand this distinction especially in YT - which would traditionally be considered "low" art by anyone from the usual media platforms anyway?? Basically, what I'm trying to say is I feel Dan shouldn't take himself so seriously and he's gotta loosen up a bit especially since in constantly looking at the filmmaking types, he simultaneously seems to insult Phil's content.

Also, what's with the increasing La La Land backlash haha - it's not a film which wants to deal with serious issues - the point is to throwback to those happy Hollywood musicals aka Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers so it never even set out to discuss heavy issues anyway; hence it's a bit pointless to point out a flaw that it didn't even mean to address? I wonder if I'm making sense.
