I'm sad about SITC but grateful for some clarity...been dithering over getting tickets for myself and my eldest for ages but can't really afford the time or money as have a big trip later that month.

hello! i've lurked for a while but i finally decided to make an account.

the liveshow was ok, definitely not one of my favourites but some interesting moments nonetheless. i was quite surprised by the new view of the room - i didn't expect there to be a wall with a window so close behind him, it makes it seem quite a small and cramped room.

also, we see you lying about the sims dan, LITERALLY EVERY SIMS VIDEO has comments about the possibility of dil being abducted and getting pregnant there's no way you didn't know. his comment near the end about how they are making an effort to make all the gaming videos funny - i found this interesting, they might be worried that the sims videos are starting to get boring hence the sneaky purposeful abduction.

i would've loved to hear more about florida but as it was a family holiday so i'll settle for whatever we get. as a fellow space nerd i liked his little nasa haul and i frickin love that jacket.

Dan thinks freckles are beautiful. Phil has freckles. What a coincidence.

I loved the liveshow despite the irritating "did I deserve it?"/"you deserve it" (the Twitter icon) stuff. Maybe it ties in with his worries about being a good enough creator who even knows what he's doing with his life (I guess success right off the bat can easily do that). I would love him to stop worrying. The daft thing is the content he makes is as good now as ever so if some has been affected by him worrying and procrastinating while other things haven't, I don't see a difference.

He looked amazing too, a little more golden, hair fluffy, lovely smile. The backdrop looked good too, despite it all being backwards. The bookshelves looked more interesting this time, I think the light in the background helped. It looks a good cosy corner for gaming and tumbling.

i enjoyed the ls a lot, agree that he and phil probably had some bullet points on what to cover and that the next one will be more "surprising" content-wise. i sometimes zoned out a bit but i do that in every conversation too so no offence dan. i think i missed something on him enjoying liam's promo material for his music lmao.

the part where he talked about struggling to define "dan content" and whether it'd become meaningless if he "figured out his life" made me a bit sad tbh despite it being jokey and all that. i'd probably have to listen to it again (and be more awake) to form some coherent thoughts about it but i hope he finds a way to cope with these thoughts and put out whatever content makes him happy to create without looking too much for a concept or meaning of what he wants his channel to be? but the earlier part where he mentioned his overthinking and being happy with the bahamas one made it seem like he's on a good way with that.

I started off on Tumblr but switched to YouTube when it was laggy and still had big freezy bits, but I stuck with it and it mellowed out. Random thoughts out of order.

No talk of the Lesters, but that's okay. He really seemed to be downplaying the vacation time. Like I know they had business stuff, at the American DAPS warehouse and who knows what else. And I know that vacation time is private time so that's fine, it's good, I'll just keep on reading Florida fan-fiction.

Space and music and anime and films and theatre and the romantics. Wow, how do I always forget that he's such a nerd? Because of his meme talk? I guess that's just a different kind of nerdiness. (Side note that while taking my mom and son to the airport this afternoon we met a Shiba Inu puppy called Sora and I now understand the appeal )

2017 is about sorting his life out (I forget how he phrased that at the beginning, but it was nice) yet he's not had time to do that, nor is he so sure about it and how it will affect his content. Sorry.

Also he took a DNA test! But was disappointed with the vague results, which I relate to. My mom's just said half Western and Eastern Europe, great! I imagine he didn't get any Native American results, which he was hoping for with his adopted darker grandmother.

idk whether it was sheer sleep deprivation or my fondness for dan howell in liveshows but i started crying when he talked about manchester and continued through his talks about his content and what the "Daniel Howell" content is, plus the fact that gaming video content is easy because his purpose is just to make people laugh and be entertained whilst Daniel Howell is more personal to him... idk man, it wasn't sobbing i was just silently crying shit.

the anecdotes were cool, esp about the Miami thing lmao. it can't be just me that thinks dan sounds a lil salty about phil's bants with airport security? also him talking about voice insecurities when he was younger, bless (and he did sound like Theresa May how freaky)

Did anyone notice how Phil got some automatic..uh.. "irrigation-thing" for his plants, but Dan claimed that he asked a pal to water his bonsai? In which universe does this make sense? Wouldn't the pal have also watered Phil plants, so that he wouldn't have needed to buy the irrigation-thing? I'm so good with words, omg Or am I confusing something?

Also, I think Dan ignored some premium message asking him about the family holiday, while he answered most of the others, so he probably had no interest in sharing some familiar moments (this isn't surprising at all, I just thought I'd mention it).

Beside that, I really loved the slight golden tan he had. It suits him really well, he looked great

yeah! especially with dan saying in his video "them having some hilarious witty banter which left them both giggling" and phil sounding rlly proud about it in his liveshow, it's quite funny really.

I forgot to mention that Dan compared Phil to Voldemort again, during his freckles bit. He still would.

I think the reason why Dan didn't talk much about Florida is the same as to why Phil didn't get into it wither. They didn't hide the trip, tons of pics where posted so none would say why they hid it, but it was a family holiday, it was somewhat private. I think it was a middel ground, they won't get into the details of it but they share some of it.

Just looking through tumblr and came across what Dan said about the Manchester bombing in the liveshow and aw it's true what he says though about the community of Manchester. It's one place that really does have a community that is very caring. I spent a lot of time there in the past 10 years and went back this weekend just gone to pay my respects. The feeling of community spirit is greater than anything. I had a lot of friends who were at the MEN the day before the bombing and I was due to go there for a gig 2 days after, just brings everything so close to home, I'm glad he said something about it.

Also, maybe I should have kept watching as seeing this on tumblr, I could definitely done with his wise words of encouragement as had a proper shitty day today. This actually put a smile on my face at the end of the day.

One thing I noticed about Dans ls today that no one has mentioned is that when someone said they wanted to know Phil's perspective on the immigration incident, Dan gave it, instead of saying go watch Phil's ls or something. I think it's interesting how lately they do kind of speak for each other and don't declare their individuality as much. I was rewatching Dan's May 2nd ls and I was struck by how Dan told the story of Phil throwing the feed at the pigeons even tho Phil had not shared it. Not that it's a super private thing, but I feel like Phil is more careful about stories he shares about Dan bc Dan may want to share it himself or may not want to share it at all.

Overall, I was a bit disappointed in today's ls, just bc it seemed so rushed. I also don't know for sure if they use bullet points or if people actually ask, but I'd just as soon not rehash everything we already know. I guess a few bits of new info appeared while Dan was doing this, but Phil's not so much (as I remember it).

I look forward to watching it the right way round, although Dan looks just as good flipped (can't say the same for Phil). Is this because Dan has a more symmetric face, which is actually supposed to make you less attractive?

Freckles: I love them - on everyone else; I've got a lot on my shoulders and forearms, but that's because I'm outside a lot, and probably have some of the whitest whiteboy genetics possible, based on a DNA ancestry test: 39% Great Britain; 23% Scandinavia; 17% West European; 16% Ireland; 2% Italy / Greece; and 1% Iberia.

I was re watching Phil's predicting future video and unlike Dan's where he made him think about last year, this year and next year, Phil did it for thrre months. Do you think he got it wrong and he was supposed to do as Dan's? Because if one watch Phil's and replace the months by years, it makes a lot of sense and it's a little bit similar as Dan's.

Dan looked really wonderful in this ls: his hair, the cat shirt, the slight golden tan- just
and the overall vibe throughout felt relaxed and inviting. Maybe a bit rushed, but I don't know if it was just me wanting to hear more in depth run-on commentary of his thoughts on various subjects or if it was just he had so much he wanted to say and it was hard to consolidate his thought process to elaborate on one thing in particular when he had so many other subjects to discuss on top of what the chat was asking him about.
I'd imagine it's difficult to give everything he cares to address it's due worth when he's operating on a time limit, especially when there's so much to cover. For example, I'd have loved to hear him continue speaking about Gorillaz and Line of Duty.

To be honest, BBC crime dramas pull me in like nobody's business, it's a problem. Luther for one is an ongoing obsession.

It was also interesting to hear him mention the Romantics and already I'm imagining a video where he introduces the writers he admires the most while recreating the moment of when he first discovered them and why they became so significant to him. He gives a lot of importance to experiences, music and people who played a large role in his formative years and it would be nice to see him elaborate more on these topics, everything from the Romantics to Philosophy, while putting his own irreverent/thoughtful spin on it.

One thing I've noticed is when he focuses on one topic for a video, he does an amazing job of narrowing down various elements of the story to make it visually and emotionally appealing, with great timing and delivery, while rounding it out neatly at the end to give it adequate closure. It kind of refers back to how I percieve him as wanting to share certain experiences with others and trying to relay the full magnitude of it, not only for entertainment's sake, but to draw a connection the audience can relate to, where he takes the experience from an abstract thought in his head and reenacts details and sounds to the fullest degree so it's not only he was nervous and miserably hot, he was a "sweaty awkward beluga whale," with all the evocative kick of a sight gag to emphasize the metaphor and make it that more bizarrely amusing. And it wasn't just that the border agent sounded like foghorn leghorn, it was him recreating her voice with all the inflection of her annoyance along with her disapproving glare over the rim of her glasses and her generally irritated slouching posture to fully communicate her "i don't have time for your tourist nonsense today" attitude to really drive home the point of how out of sorts he felt to be confronted with that situation. So I wonder if when it comes to other subjects say, like philosophy and his own thought process regarding his creative approach, if these things are harder for him to cover in a main channel video because they're less confined to situations and people but more internalized and specific to him, so being able to fully express every detail of what he means to say becomes a lesson in finding a physical point of reference for the audience to connect with, to better help them understand his point of view as he explains it.
(although he's already done this to a certain degree with his existential crisis and the meaning of life videos)

I also wonder if his struggle with this kind of expression lends itself to not only trying to adhere to a conceptual model that clearly expresses his identity in terms of his personal approach to creativity and his personality or how to wield the responsibility that goes along with having an accessible public platform and all the questions of identity and purpose that comes with it, but also in how to get across his message in a balanced way that's appealing and concise to not only his audience, but to him as well, so that he can be satisfied looking back on how he covered a particular topic.
I think he has the poise, empathy and eloquence to talk about whatever he pleases without overstressing the details or if the audience will be able to meet him halfway in listening and understanding his perspective. Over time, I think as he becomes more comfortable with himself, as he said about this year being the one of figuring out his life, he'll also figure out his content in the process as one tends to be a direct reflection of the other, leading to less protracted agonizing over his worth and the worth of the things he creates and more of him letting go and allowing himself the freedom to put himself out there in all the ways he might have been cautious of doing before.

If his content and appeal up to this point has been as he says, "publicly not have any idea what I’m doing with my life," reflecting the universal story of humanity trying to find purpose and relevance in their day to day lives that many people empathize with, then his content can also be the universal story of transformative revelation where he finds catharsis from figuring out his purpose and utilizing it to cushion the inevitable moments of "free fall" and doubt that crop up in the future. Just the fact he's asking these questions in the first place makes me think he's already well on his way to finding the answers and figuring out how to prioritize self-actualization over self-defeating thoughts.

With regards to general philosophy and other topics akin to it - whilst I'd really love for Dan to do a main channel video regarding subjects such as those, I'm not sure what the likelihood is, simply due to the fact that his content on that channel is viewed by more than just his dedicated fanbase; I'm not sure how receptive his general audience would be.

I thought of this because I watched an Emma Blackery video (maybe it was on a side channel idk) where she looked at her stats and commented on them. I usually don't watch her (or like her, I can't deal with the drama) but I haven't seen any other youtubers open up their statistics, makings, subscriber and view counts so I felt it would be interesting. She shows a decline in her main channel with views and subscribers, and stated that posting her own music on her main channel was one of the biggest mistakes she's ever made with it (I may be paraphrasing, I watched the video a month or so ago - glance over it, it's fairly interesting).

So I'm not sure whether Dan would risk the potential general audience backlash considering other youtubers have done content that differs from their usual content and made a loss as a result

Perhaps Dan was referring to his experience with out-of-date passport / visa photos... (I'm not defending the current administration's stance on immigration policy - and unfortunately the opinion of a significant percentage of (unsophisticated) Americans from the interior of the country outside of the generally more tolerant metro areas.)

I also want to point out that the US does not have a monopoly on covert racism when it comes to border protection. Having affirmed that I'm pretty goddamned white in an earlier post, I never have had any issues with border agents in Europe, while my frequent traveling companion - a 1,000% American kid of Chinese descent - gets the extra "attention," particularly in Germany and Austria when we go skiing / snowboarding. Conversely when at border control in Bali, the agent was giving me a bunch of shit until my Asian friend that was meeting me there made it clear that she was with me.

he's talked about overthinking his content and being somewhat unsure what "dan content" is. asked the chat, said he was happy with the bahamas video, said he needs to overthink less before filming, then got distracted by something else. asked a ~pal~ to water his bonsai tree, but said pal didn't do it and now it's crusty. he's going to sit in a quiet room and recharge this week bc it's been really social recently and this will hopefully give him creative ideas to film something or at least change his icons. new video next week or in two, if he's having a crisis. he likes filming for the gaming channel because they can just sit down and film without planning too much. they've been filming some of them apparently too.

now it's been music and movie talk so i'm not summing that up but i think these were the interesting bits (at least to me) for everyone who can't watch it rn due to the lag.

I didn't see the live show but I have to say, reading this I really hope Dan is never ever in a position where his money dries up and he has to get a 'real job'. He needs alone time for a week to recharge so he has the creative energy to CHANGE HIS SOCIAL ICONS??? God help him if he's ever in a job where he has to work or he doesn't get paid!

I'm not even criticizing him I'm just incredulous. I do understand needing to be in a creative mindset to make videos (although I think Dan takes it to the extreme). And as a kind of 'introverted extrovert' I also understand the need to have alone time so you can recover from prolonged socialising. But honestly Dan, just pick a bloody photo and click the 'change profile picture' button on Twitter it's not like you're submitting something for the Turner Prize.

Anyway I also just wanted to chime in and say that I interpreted Dan's TSA comment (from reading it here) as meaning he wouldn't look like his passport photo, not that he wouldn't get in for racially charged reasons (although sadly it does work on both levels). Last time I went into the US, I had a different hair colour/style from my passport pic and they were extremely suspicious - although I was also coming from Colombia which might not have helped matters.
