Also I watched Anthony's video and omg I liked it more than I thought I would. I really felt that Dan shone in this video, he's a very good actor when he wants to be and I thought they both did a great job. A very rewatchable, non-cringey collab, 10/10

Still perplexed as to why Phil is out here recycling Singapore content like three months after the fact, but I guess it's on-brand and he felt the need to tweet something? Interesting..

I can totally see them enjoying a game of "how fast can they figure out where this meal is from". Holy shitballs that took me a while of searching (flashbacks to my duck and waffle adventure smh i only show up to detective out things i stg) but I found the drink and the bar! And my dudes it's a cool one, It's such a Phil bar oh my god. Without further ado, here from the same maker of the table/wall/butterdish comparison post last time, I bring you Phil Drink Locator part 2.

It's a bar in Singapore called the Tippling Club, and what they do is play with smell. Like their menu is strips of paper with the drink names on them, spritzed with different scents meant to signify the drinks. I can't even fully explain it. But it's cool.

I also wouldn't call it trolling - I agree that sometimes you just find old things on your camera roll and want to post. Though also given that the find mindset fills in an absence of information with conspiracy theory, it was short sighted of him not to include a throwback tag of some time... unless he just really wanted us to have something to mentally chew on for the next 24 hours that isn't Dan and Anthony's weird selfcest-y chemistry.

Editing my post because I just saw the answer to my previous question on twitter. Yup, that was the jumper of 2+ days continuous wear.

Between Cat's puppy pawing him in his stripey jumper and doing push-ups on Anthony's patio with the color-block jumper Dan's clothes got some wear this Vidcon.

Wow, I pretend to have a life for one day and there's 3 pages of bants to catch up on. Not that I'm complaining.

I loved the Danthony collab - it seemed like Dan was really able to let go of anything holding him back and give us some fantastic acting. Even though his side was dinof ~persona~ heavy, it was so natural and fun to watch, as opposed to coming across as forced. A bit redundant at this point, but I agree that it went on just a bit too long (I personally think the part with them imitating each other's videos could have been cut out, that's the point where I was feeling a bit tired of the shouting).

I want/need that Campfire cocktail. I actually googled the legal drinking age in Singapore, and I'm above it, so I guess I'll just schedule my flight now.

(And I'll be forever amused by how quickly that got figured out. I've heard the legends of people uncovering deppy info at James Bond-levels of skill and speed, but I'd never seen it happen right before my eyes. Amazing.)

On the subject of Dan and Phil hugging, the fact that they've only done it once on camera makes me believe more in Phan bc I feel like it would be very Dan to want to keep that part of their relationship just for them. But the fact that the one time they did it it was initiated by Dan confuses me. And why then? Plus, since they did already do it once, why not do it more in appropriate contexts like the BONCAS?

Ok I don't really understand why the hugging convo is going so hard right now, but I feel the need to butt in with my interpretation of that stage hug because I just can't shut up today. Phil put out his arms in that shrugging (or some other word that's not coming to me) motion and Dan perceived it as an invitation to hug and (in his high-energy 'yes, and' stage mode) went for it because denying it in front of a crowd like that would have been more awkward than the hug they ended up following through on. But it only happened because of a physical misunderstanding imo, so I don't even count it. Go rewatch it for me and see if that checks out (edit: this sounds weirdly demanding: I mean I can't go on YT rn to see for myself but it's how I remember it, BUT I haven't watched in a long time bc I find it too awkward so don't take my word for it..is what I meant..). But as to why don't they hug: because they don't feel like it, the end.

Being aware of all the intentions and meanings outside viewers would put on something that should be a pretty casual/simple (and undoubtedly is in private) physical show of affection kind of makes it not worth it. The loosening up they've been doing is basically the same thing, so whatever. The fact that we're all wishing for one so it 'wouldn't be such a big deal' is what makes it a big deal and, I mean, it's possible they'll do it eventually and it won't be a huge thing (eventually) but knowing people are watching and wanting it probably weighs on any desire to do it. Navigating the line between not caring/doing what you want and doing what you want while being overly aware people want you to do it regardless of your feelings on it is an ongoing fiddly business. It's a struggle between deciding what feels natural and mostly ok (wanting to do something, decide what other people want doesn't matter because it's worth it to you) vs what feels like a self-conscious performance to sell part of yourself you're not (yet?) fully ok with (wanting to do something, resent that doing it will be giving in in some way to forces outside yourself, even if you want to do it. Not doing it feels better). IMO.

Overall though they're still feeling it all out and I feel happy about it, not sad.

I did go back and watch the vid of the deppy hug. I definitely see what you're talking about with Phil's possible hug invitation and it being awkward not to hug after that. Also the intro to the vid on Dan's channel and also the intro to the stage act talked about how nervous they were never having been on stage at Vidcon. So I think I agree now that that hug was sort of a blooper (for lack of a better word). I like how you explained their possible inner struggle with public/recorded hugging.

Also thoughts on tomska/markiplier collab:

I watch Tom some and I don't watch Markiplier. I felt like they both were so non-persona-ish. I wish Dan and Phil could be so authentic about such a personal topic. But I know that's just not them and their situation has much more potential risk due to their sexualities and the extent to which their careers are linked.

YOI is absolutely not queerbaiting. It stayed far away from the usual yaoi cliches and the relationship is made obvious, even if they didn’t show the kiss in detail. Like… Yuuri said he loved Victor, they’re together, they’re clearly affectionate with each other, they’re getting married. How much more obvious does it have to be? Is a romantic relationship only valid if people kiss on screen? Is romance all about the physical stuff? Nah, it's not. I think Yuuri's confession of love is way more important here than any kiss, let alone the freaking engagement rings they're wearing. (Also, they absolutely did kiss, even if they had to censor it a bit. I think it's still pretty obvious.) If Dan wants to talk about queerbaiting in anime, why can’t he talk about his volleyball or swimming animes (whatever they’re called, I’m too tired to look it up) instead of YOI, like really. That’s queerbaiting, Dan. YOI is not.

Just dropping in to voice my excitement for the coming gaming video (should be 'out there') and the collabs we can still expect.
I haven't just yet started writing on my Danthony 2.0 fic: "Your Padildo makes me Howl"
but the archive of source materials is steadily expanding. Tbh, I cringed a couple of times at Dan's bad acting in the vid (the crying is always so forced) but it didn't stop me from enjoying it.

Anyway the whole vid reminded me about how Dan and Phil and Anthony and Ian (still chained to a contract?) all are part of that very first wave of 'big youtubers' and how maybe Dan and Phil really tried to model their channels after 'their own version of smosh'.

The Dan collab has been hinted at quite a while ago with the snapchat (or was it Insta story?) pic, and Dan mentioned it once or twice in his liveshow. Phil didn't say anything and I wouldn't see a reason to keep a collab secret. Besides, I don't think Anthony wants too much D&P on his channel. His last video (the hair straightening one) already had a D&P intro, and now a Dan collab.

loved the collab, the push-up scene was hilarious. I really really really can't wait for Anthony to post the blooper reel/extended cuts he talked about in the youtube comments, I need to see the behind-the-scenes for this vid it must have been so hard not to just crack up laughing.

regarding a phil, I have a feeling he and anthony didn't film anything together. Someone, either Phil or Dan or anthony would have probably mentioned or at least hinted at something by now, especially since danthony teased their collab multiple times.

tbh phil and the ant man might be bffs for all we know, but at least in the public eye there isn't much precedence for a one-on-one collab. Being in a collab with ten people is different than a two person video and phil seems past making collab videos solely for marketing purposes (*cough*casper vid). The Dan and Anthony collab makes sense b/c they've lately been tweeting each other a lot and commenting on instagram posts/videos which, while not confirming that they're friends, at least means they're closer than the average youtube acquaintance. Phil prob didn't film a vid with anthony for the same reason dan didn't film a vid with the anime woman, Hazel, or strawburry17.

I like that deppy collab with different people. they might have the same inner friend circle, but it's cool that they have different friends as well, even if it's just different youtube friends.

I agree that Phil-Anthony is unlikely or they would have given a hint. Also i don't think that 20 or so tweets mean much - that would be a bit of a poor standard of valuing your relationship.
Still, to me it's obvious they both support Anthony's launch as an autonomous youtuber. And since they spend a lot time together, i would have expected some more Phil in a video that was shot in the wake of Vidcon. I guess Danthony lowkey really is a thing The couple of times Dan talked about him, I noticed he really did seem to respect him. As for Anthony, I think he would put them in about every other vid if that meant he would get a good chunk of the D&P crowd subbing to him. It's kinda do-or-die for him as a new youtuber. It worked on me, i subbed (I like him anyway, even if i find his vids kinda meh) and I noticed he's already in the multiple millions of subs ... so that launch went breathtakingly fast.
I wish Phil would do some more commercial collabs - there's plenty of audiences where he would bounce really well with imo. Sometimes can be so complacent about their channel
