This was such a fun video! Phil totally trolled us with the hype but I still thoroughly enjoyed it anyway (what am I saying I love just about everything they put out )
I agree that the content is def a bit overdone but their chemistry was what made it so enjoyable for me. Loving how Phil picked some super embarrassing shots of Dan, someone's gotta drag that boy and I'm quite glad it's him. I adored their reaction to the last picture, as well as Phil's lovely voice in the "theme song" thingy (which just prompted all kinds of musician!Phil headcanons), as well as his end credits. (I didn't have time to go back and catch them all but I have seen some screenshots and...well, I can only imagine Dan's reaction )
Alright, I pretty much just rehashed what everyone else said but either way, I thought this was a super fun video, and will absolutely be watching it again. And +1 to the gender role/masculinity discussion, it's such an interesting topic to me, especially as most of the males in my family fit the "manly man" stereotype so it's really cool to see how break away from that mold!
Edit: How could I forget about the denim jacket? Phil really has blessed us with this video
I thought that was a quite good AP Video!
The best part for me was their chemistry. I was very impressed with how much they all clicked both in pairs and altogether. It's always very frustrating when in collabs one person looks like they are being slightly left out (cof cof not worth watching with louise) but in this video I didn't feel that at all. I thought the video in some parts seemed so persona-free (not that that's a good term) in such a good way, especially when they reacted to the photos both initially and at the revelations - we got some very lovely and funny genuine reactions ahha, from all of them. Yeah, basically I really loved how carefree they all seemed, both enjoying the game and the convos.
On the downside, I though the camera quality and angle was a bit off? It didn't seem completely right to me, and threw me off at first, but after a while I stopped noticing it. My biggest problem wasn't in the game at all or even that Phil seemed excited about the video or the idea for it, but more that he talked about it as if it had been his more individual creation and something he had been thinking about for long as if this isn't such a common concept made by so many other youtubers and etc. He literally said I've been working on years on the format of this game and I finally came up with how it works ' ?????? Like I don't get it ahah, he didn't even say game, he said 'format' and 'how it works' which seems to be quite a general assertion.
My thing is that, I feel like because it's Phil we tend to be a bit more 'oh he's such a nice person' and etc, but like, The 7 Second Challenge was a Youtube invention and it did deserve credit, but I don't see why this is a thing he would kind of take credit in (also I know that he is not really asking for credit or anything, but the various mentions to it being a new concept confused me a bit ahah) . I just thought it was worth mentioning.
I honestly laughed so hard at the last photo and the BBC photo and the reactions that I nearly cried - Phil is giving zero fucks and i'm fucking living for it
I never thought I'd hear a discussion of rat penis on AmazingPhil but here we are and I have been blessed 10/10 this is the content I never knew I subscribed for
Also Phil in denim... (and how smooth Phil's skin looks)...
Dan's last photo was the best, cheers to Phil for being a true gift to this world and an amazing friend
this video made me laugh a lot, it would be so nice to see more of the three together
Phil makes a great host and I feel like Western Australia has a special place in Phil's heart
I enjoyed that video a lot, it was funny and cute and just what I wanted to see on a Friday night while a little intoxicated
However, I'm now feeling queasy after watching Anthony's new video with Joey Graceffa...I think it's safe to say that I will NEVER re-watch it, much as I like Anthony. I thought I had mild trypophobia but this was too much for me!
Going to re-watch Phil and try to cleanse my mind!

He didn't deserve credit for the 7 Second Challenge either, on or off YouTube. Depz deadass played a veeeeery similar game (but with 5 seconds instead of 7) in a liveshow once after Phil's mum brought it over (it had a timer and questions I think) and I'm 100% sure that was where they got the idea from and it has always annoyed me that they cashed in on a barely different variation of it. Then the phandom decided to bully every YouTuber taking the concept for themselves into having to credit Phil and they probably didn't know better but Dan sure as hell did so then it really soured me for a while.

I think that he deserved credit for creating the Youtuber's tag and 'phenomenon', having been the source of inspiration for so many videos, because I never thought of it has an actual new concept or game? Like I feel like the concept of trying to do things in a specific time amount is a really common game ahah especially in kids, I played it all the time. So yeah, for me it doesn't deserve credit as a game but as a trend settler kind of? And obviously I'm not including the app in this, that would make stuff more complicated, only the video with PJ and the videos afterwards. I think it's good and correct that the youtubers who did the game in their youtube channels with Phil's rules and the '7 Second Challenge' title included the credit to Phil.
So yeah, I think this is totally different as a old youtube concept. it doesn't really 'offend' me or wtv because he's not really asking for credit or profiting by saying it's his idea but I was totally confused by the mentions of it being a 'new creation'.
this has been discussed before a few years ago, but - people never hate phil's videos, but are quick to critique dan's. is it bc dan's videos are consistently better so we hold him to a high standard? is it bc dan makes less of them? i feel like phil's videos have been heavily reliant on dan/ other people for a while. i love his personality, but it does begin to feel a bit the same - there isn't a lot of ingenuity these days (which is what people say about dan).
as people have said - the film quality wasn't great. i feel like dan would be crucified for that? idk
like, i thought that video was a cop out? so many youtubers have done the "zoom in and guess who it is" thing before. when praising it, we are talking about the chemistry between the people involved and not the actual #content itself.
If you have something nasty to say about Phil, make a post about it, I'll be entertained and I'll bloody well support it. Add a bit of diversity. If I'm being strictly honest, Dan's videos get a better return rate in comments than Phil's might get, so I think there would be a larger varied response. I agree that Dan's videos are often criticized more, but his videos are also praised more. Frankly, I've reached the point that I feel that Phil and Dan's content are on par to each others. Was there really much difference between their last videos in the level of work involved? Dan had some puns, and I wouldn't be too surprised if Phil had helped. I think they both have an issue with over hyping, Dan in particular. Phil in particular for this video, I was expecting something different but it was painfully average. The premise was basic for Phil. Not bad, but not anything "new" so a bit lackluster.
I think it's also a case of people projecting higher standards onto Dan or going so far as to suggest he's a better person somehow. Like the gender discussion. I have all support for Dan, but I don't think Dan's really that "out there" with breaking gender roles, if you compare him to so many other people that exist and came before him. As people have said in the case of him (and Phil) and do what is comfortable-and all Dan does is dip his toe into it by wears nail polish.
I think a lot of people like to look at Dan and Phil and idolize them, and are uncomfortable to criticize in general. However, in the case of Dan, I think he puts forward a high expectatation. And I don't think there's much difference between them, so please throw a critique at Phil. Be the change you want to see, you can't expect other people to act how you want. Frankly people have different opinions, and maybe it's simply Phil has inoffensive, fluffy entertainment (so, hard to criticise) but Dan suggests a lot more, and invites more controversy (so, more varied response but largest discussion overall). I'm not saying you're wrong in anyway, I agree with your point, but I think people have to look at it from many ways.

I don't know much about Joe or Caspar, but on a somewhat related topic, I'm forever fascinated by how different Deppy's relationship, humor and general attitude seem compared to Tomska and his group of friends/coworkers. Like, they are all (as far as I know) straight guys, but they are also pretty socially aware, Tom did a video about being an ally, and they seem to share taste in many things with Deppy, yet the vibe that I'm getting when I'm watching Tom's vlogs couldn't be more different (I'd really like to discuss it if someone's interested, I've been thinking about this forever now)
Tomska:
I'm a big fan of Tom's videos and of Last Week, so I know what you mean. Sometimes I get very confused watching it from the near lovey-dovey kind of behavior Tom has with his friends, in particular Elliot. In fact, in a recent upload he brought to light a comment where someone corrected him when he accidentally called his girlfriend Charlie, "Elliot"
I don't think Tom distinguishes his affection between friends and girlfriend by much, but I suppose that's how he treats his friendships, and holds people very close to him. I find their interaction funny at times, like sharing beds and kissing each other. Even though they're straight I'm still like ?wtf is going on? at points. I certainly don't ship them (I don't ship real life people, I don't even really ship deppy, just think they're together) but it's nice to see that Tom is very comfortable about his male friends like Elliot and Eddie, and their banter and interactions aren't overshadowed by "no homo", instead Tom just takes it in his stride and plays along with the joke. If Dan and Phil were to behave in this kind of way starting tomorrow, the phandom would most certainly have a break down out of shock. If anybody ever wants to talk about Tom or Last Week I'm here.

EDIT: Totally forgot to mention? Anybody get slight second hand embarrassment, when Anthony and Dan shake hands, then Phil shakes Anthony's and then deppy just avoid eye contact and don't shake hands either? I'm not saying there's anything wrong with not shaking hands, but Phil shaking hands with Anthony made the timing really weird and just uncomfortable to watch

I had to watch the Anthony/Joey vid with a hand covering most the screen. None of that was fun for me... I must be more sensitive than I thought. I also had to go back and re-watch Phil to get it out of my brain *shudder.*
I think Phil enjoys creating a little chaos, keeping people a bit off-balance. He really does love messing with his friends but he does it so gently you can't even be mad But then I'm hardcore Phil Trash so he can't do much wrong in my eyes. He's definitely been putting out some lower effort required videos of late (as much as I enjoy them all and have watched more times than I want to admit,) and that makes me wonder if he's working on something else or if maybe this is his way to decompress and have some fun after the last two years of radio/book/tour etc? Just easy, silly, playful nonsense to delight both us and him.
solid video, it was a lovely birthday present thanks phil. i don't know how all of you have serious opinions on a 10 minute youtube video but i admire you for it. i can't think of anything beyond 'i like that top dan is wearing'

The videos I was fine with, his idea of making it a thing for his channel was fine too. But Dan complaining about people 'stealing the idea' and the phandom acting like idiots... none of that was justified to me. Sure it was nice when YouTubers would say that they saw Phil do it and state where they got the idea from, but imo they were under no obligation to and they definitely wouldn't need to ask permission like the phandom was calling for at the time.

oh no - i don't have anything hateful in my heart towards phil at all. i mean, i am very much team "if you hate their stuff why are you watching" - i just sort of see IDB as a place where everyone here genuinely loves the lads and thinks they are talented/ worth watching/ investing in. thus, i would have no qualms whatsoever as a casual viewer, but here in this generally older (i am mid-20s)/ articulate demographic of fans, it feels less like complaining and more like assessing from an appreciative perspective?

The concept definitely wasn't original, but I don't think it needed to be. It was absolutely delightful either way. I have a tiny bit of hope that maybe Phil was being tongue in cheek when he talked about it being an idea/format he's had for years, unless he specifically meant with Dan and Anthony? But I doubt it. The reality is more like he thinks this is creative and more original than it really is.

I totally agree with this! The concept worked because they all seemed to really get along and have the same amount of interactivity. Dan and Phil in general were both pretty relaxed, which I'm not sure I attribute as much to Anthony himself as I do Dan and Phil just being more relaxed in general right now. But maybe it was Anthony a little bit too, maybe they do all just genuinely like each other.

I also agree with the first part of this, Phil enjoying creating a little chaos, though I'm not sure I think that his content lately has been lower effort. I think it's always been pretty consistently low effort (at least since he left his uni-era wannabe indie filmmaker phase behind) and just focused more on casual sometimes stupid concepts that might make people laugh than impressing people with originality and inventiveness.
But even low effort content probably becomes more a struggle to come up with a few times a month when you've been doing it for ten years.
sorry for double posting again but just as a lil contrast from that onision post, really liked phil's new video!! it was cute and funny, my fav bits being when phil revealed photos and when they happened to be dan, all hell broke loose. they all seemed so care free and not 'stuck to branding' if you get what i mean. overall, good!

I'm so down for a deppy collab channel that is just them dicking around like this. Like a YouTube talk show but with that deppy charm
anything that makes Phil do that tongue-sticking-out laugh that is the cutest fucking thing in the whole world is quality content IMO, don't mind me i'm just chilling with Dan and the banana peels at the bottom of the Phil trash bag

Oh absolutely! And I admire that he still enjoys YouTube after so long and the growth in skill you can see over the years, even when the concept of a video is simple or silly. I really do think he was joking about having had it in mind for years. That's the thing with Onision, he loves negative attention and if harassment is what he has to do to get that attention, he'll do it in a heartbeat. He's also generally a fucking creep. The only positive thing I can say about him is that he makes the occasional good point.

Oh, okay Though you do did make a good point how people are more critical of Dan.
Onision:
I'm honestly just really annoyed whenever I see his name, whenever I see him retweeted in whatever context. I really hope we don't return to discussing something he's doing to get Dan's attention, I just don't hope he spins his tweet into some propaganda of why Dan and the phandom is terrible for ignoring his harassment. I only thought it was a single message to Dan, but instead it's a bombardment of tweets. Also, can somebody tell me why everyone seems to respond with the same message:
"No longer a fan of Dan, he accused me of lying/using people when I was literally a legit fan. I collabed whit Phil for Christ's sake. Done"

I still haven't watched further than the intro (and now I'm scared to continue lol), but I thought it was funny that Anthony (?) drew all these youtubers that he wanted to collab with, including Dan

i stand by that point, but was worried i came in hot sounding hateful towards phil - thank you for giving me space to elaborate!
there was a long conversation about it on GG circa 2015 and a lot of people more articulate made better points/ i won't languish over it - but it basically was that dan attracts the "hate" with his own humor/ self-depreciation. additionally, i do believe that he makes better content in general, but he is also harder on himself. we never see phil doubting what he made, or apologizing for it, or anguishing over it's merit.
the thing for me with phil is that i do think he has so much more potential than he utilizes - the sunshine thing gets trite, but i also am a more introspective person / INFJ fo life, so i pick up on his persona more, and i would like to get to see more of the real him.
BUT - this is that main point - if phil lester is happy and self-actualized, then keep doing what you're doing, mate. at 30, you shouldn't have to people please anymore bc you generally have a better understanding of yourself.

some phandom member tweeted telling everyone to reply with that - which irritates me. they know they are just going to direct ire towards - O is looking for an excuse to hate on people. i do feel like dan should have just ignored him to start with when O did the fan video about dan - like it was for views, but also, it would have been better to just roll with it, i think.

totally agree on that. I immediately was very sure that phil completely trolled everyone, including dan (which was probably one of his big motivators, let's be real).
we're talking about a guy here who'll randomly say cushionstack.com in a video, then to not google it, and then actually buys the domain and links it to his merch shop. what phil does best is trolling. and i love him for it

Done"
some phandom member tweeted telling everyone to reply with that - which irritates me. they know they are just going to direct ire towards - O is looking for an excuse to hate on people. i do feel like dan should have just ignored him to start with when O did the fan video about dan - like it was for views, but also, it would have been better to just roll with it, i think.
Am I correct to assume that the message is something that O himself tweeted at some point in the past, and now people are just trying to troll him?

yes! from my understanding, O made a video, dan said something in a liveshow, O tweeted that afterwards.
EDIT
O's vid praising D's diss track
there is a time gap here so idk
D's liveshow responding to people asking about O
starts at :30
O hears this somewhere and tweets what everyone is now tweeting back at him
