he's just so in control of the public perception of himself, to a point where he even *makes* the drink and is in charge or distributing it, because he wants to be on alert, doesn't want the walls to slip, so this way, he knows what he's drinking, and he can stop when he wants (generally, refills are a very common thing on tipsy talk, you know? this was, if anything, sugar high talk)
he starts off by interviewing *hazel*, for god's sake, it's amazing, she barely even notices
when she brings up real stuff, he gets jokey and tries playing it off several times, because this is not what AP is about, right?
he even brings a prop chicken to fill the time with, to control the tone of the interview & make it lighthearted rather than deeply introspective I AM SO FASCINATED THIS ISN'T A JUDGEMENT IT'S JUST LIKE, WOW, WATCHING YOU WORK IS KINDA AMAZING

I love love love this!! I'm really starting to like Phil more after joining this forum, I admit I'm a total Dangirl but Phil's true nature is very intriguing.
Has the phandom decided what house Dan is?

I've never watched Hazel's videos before, I'm glad she wasn't as horrible as I've heard (or maybe not horrible, just unpleasant?). Can't wait to see the vid on Phil's channel and compare how different his persona might be.

- Loved the Tipsy talk video in general. Phil seems to genuinely like Hazel, probably finds her personality more mature that your average youtuber. Also quirky guy Phil TM image maintained.
- Totally agree with what phamnotof said about Phil being subtly supercontrolling about the way he appeared on camera and taking over the conversation in general. I guess rip our dreams of him doing a podcast.
- There were a few awkward moments, but it really felt like Hazel's talking to "youtube royalty" throughout the video, those will be accepted by everybody including Hazel as his adorable little quirks (which they are). Phil is Mr Charm.

oh he did bring it up, didn't he? wow. she was telling him about what she usually talks about and he immediately knew she meant death, that makes me think he actually like (re)watched old episodes of Tipsy Talk in preparation for what she might ask him, like he actually did his homework so that he wouldn't be taken aback by anything. Now I'm just imagining him watching her other collabs & taking notes.

I'm not a fan of Hazel, she gives me the impression of having a problem with D&P fandom and I get overprotective lol.

Some of Hazel's comments seemed passive aggressive to me, but I think I'm the only one who thought that, so I won't think too hard about it. Idk, it seems like a lot of people enjoy making snarky comments about the Dan and Phil fanbase, and maybe it's out of jealousy, maybe it's just them being silly and friendly, I don't know, but I'll take it as a grain of salt. I guess I'm just a sensitive person and I always end up feeling alienated and forgotten about as an older-ish fan. (I also couldn't imagine being in their shoes and having people sort of poke fun at the source of your career, but like I said, I'm a sensitive person. I'll stop caring about it lol. I'm sure they really don't care.)

I know that this might not be really helpful but if I remember correctly he got is as a Christmas present and read it during Christmas break. He mentioned it during liveshow but I'm not sure if it was the first liveshow of 2014 or 2015 and I don't really have time to watch them again. Or was it a birthday present? I don't have a collection of videos documenting Phil's apparent fear of death/old age but I'd love to see one.

Sometimes the creepy stuff interests me most. Like I'm weirdly fascinated by the theory that Dan wants to look like Phil. If anyone has a list relating to that, I'd like to be interested.

A few days ago greatnessflicker (sorry I didn't reply straight away) mentioned Ezra Koenig follows Dan on twitter and I remembered Stephen Fry used to follow him! Have they interacted or something? Why would Stephen follow Dan?
A few days ago me and my friend got tipsy and had a great fun i.e. laughed out asses off scrolling Dan's twitter and imagining Stephen Fry seeing his tweets in feed and his reactions.I'm so sad he's left twitter

No worries! Anyways, perhaps because of Charlie (of the "issocoollike" variety, not the "skies" variety)? Since Stephen Fry did his outtro perhaps he followed Charlie and saw Dan through that connection? Apparently Stephen Fry watched Charlie's videos, so...what if Dan once came up in the recommended videos section. haha my god.

Also, while doing research on this, I found an article from 2013 where Dan was listed as the 44th most popular British tweeter, so I'm not surprised.

I'd also like to know how Ezra and Dan ended up following each other. They both like Evangelion, so one of my secret dreams is to have Dan and Ezra watch anime together and talk about it.

This is hilarious and I wish there were more interactions between the two.

While it is a bit of puzzler how they came to follow each other (most likely Dan first, through seeing Ezra's humorous tweets that gained a lot of traction or through just being a fan of VW), it makes total sense. Those two are so similar to me, with Ezra's brand of humor being the weirdness Dan could achieve if he wasn't worried about being relatable to a more generalized group of people. Also the anime connection is real.

Also, not sure if this has ever been discussed before, but I once went through all the people dan follows on twitter and the first two people he followed (according to the way twitter lists followers, at least, which I'm pretty sure is reverse chronological order) were Brittany Spears and Phil. Oh dan.

There were a few times throughout the video where Phil almost took a sip and then said something instead. It reminded me of a certain Skins UK episode/character...
IMO, it goes back to the whole control thing. Phil was focusing on the video and what he had to say in it, and he didn't seem super relaxed about the whole prospect of drinking. I'm surprised he actually did drink anything at all, even if it was just essentially milk and sugar.

I've always thought that Phil has gotten less comfortable over the years in his videos. I've also always seen him as not only an introvert but a bit of a perfectionist. That probably just adds to his anxieties. The fact that we see the growing pressure (i.e gaining millions of subscribers) that is put on him makes it more understandable, it makes sense why he likes to remain in control.
