meh I'm in the small camp of people who didn't find the tipsy talk vid all that interesting and I'm wondering why they bothered to call it a tipsy talk in the first place (I know Hazel's done sober tipsy talks before, but it just seems to defeat the object imo, just call it something else? idk)

I began as more of a 'Dangirl' but I do find Phil fascinating and he's grown on me a lot, but completely agree with those of you who noticed that he seemed to take control of wherever the conversation went in the video so as to keep it on brand or whatever (brand might be the wrong word)... I mean I can't really put into words exactly how I feel but I was just generally disappointed by this video, probably because I was hyped up after having to wait a while for it

and normally the tipsy talks bring up some interesting/existential or even just plain hilarious conversations but this one was just lacking for me and even the mini talk about death lacked any depth, but I can maybe understand him not wanting to talk about that too seriously

hmm idk Phil is just a bit of an enigma to me

I think that he's so weary to discuss death not only because of the AP persona, but because it will also bring up the topic of religion (which is obviously a touchy subject). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think he has ever mentioned his religious views. I'm sure he's afraid of alienating viewers who have different opinions.

Tipsy Talk was ok. Nothing I'll watch again. I did really enjoy his energy in the video though!

i can't help but feel slightly underwhelmed with the tipsy talk video. not sure if it's because of the video itself or if it's because i'd been looking forward to it since it was mentioned so i might have had higher expectations.

same here. i love her tipsy talks and i think i set myself up with expectations that were a bit too lofty for the likes of phil.

Some of Hazel's comments seemed passive aggressive to me, but I think I'm the only one who thought that, so I won't think too hard about it. Idk, it seems like a lot of people enjoy making snarky comments about the Dan and Phil fanbase, and maybe it's out of jealousy, maybe it's just them being silly and friendly, I don't know, but I'll take it as a grain of salt. I guess I'm just a sensitive person and I always end up feeling alienated and forgotten about as an older-ish fan.

i don't want to sound like i'm coming to hazel's defense here, but she acts that way toward just about everyone. it's her shtick. that said, i agree with you on always feeling a bit disappointed and left out when it comes from anyone. i hate that phil's hypothetical bar is turned down because of what's presumed to be his fanbase's overall behavior. some of us "old" folks would love to try out a low-key philgarita.

I've always thought that Phil has gotten less comfortable over the years in his videos. I've also always seen him as not only an introvert but a bit of a perfectionist. That probably just adds to his anxieties. The fact that we see the growing pressure (i.e gaining millions of subscribers) that is put on him makes it more understandable, it makes sense why he likes to remain in control.

I couldn't agree with this more! My roommate (a more casual member of the Phandom) pointed this out as well. As time went on, he seems to have gotten a lot less casual about his behavior in and the contents of his videos. It's a bit sad when you start to notice it. He sort of comes off more stilted and definitely a bit more awkward? IDK.

as for phil's reaction to the death conversation. I totally get it because i'm the exact same way. the concept of leaving those you love or losing them is not easy for me to talk about and i tend to revert to silly ideas as well (just maybe not robots...)

I like reading your comments way more than I liked the video. Was nothing amazing to me but then again I'm not that much of a Phil fan. I kind of expected a lot more, but it's also interesting to see how he likes to control everything.

I have to say, I agree with Alfie that Dan's first video is not as awkward as Dan thinks it is (or at least acts like he thinks it is). He handles himself quite well in front of a camera, and his general attitude seems basically the same as it is now: self-deprecating and funny and waffley.

I liked the Tipsy Talk vid, but didn't love it. It was a bit less persona heavy than usual AP, but I still felt that Phil was fairly in control. They have better chemistry than Connor/Tyler/Caspar imo

Funny, that is not something I see at all, but then again I haven't been watching him for that long. But I just don't get that vibe, especially not in the gaming videos. Was trying to find a new avatar from the vid as Phil's eyes look absolutely gorgeous and noticed so much eye contact! lowkey ship it I wish we'd get to somethng like that with his collabs with Dan, I mean it is nice how he looks at the camera bc eyes but it sometimes feels as if he's ignoring Dan. It hasn't been so much like that in recent vids tho so I hope it's something he's working on

I know what you mean. He still seems like himself, and he doesn't always seem awkward necessarily, but everything seems carefully placed and thoughtful instead of spontaneous.

Yeah, I wouldn't say he seems uncomfortable, I think he hides it very well, but I see the perfectionist/controlling aspects of him that shine through... especially his shaky hands... It makes my heart hurt. Sometimes it's not as bad/noticeable, but he's either addicted to caffeine or slightly anxious while filming his videos. I would say probably a combination of the two.

I've had my head up my :butt: with work (fuck you March filing deadlines) recently but as a brief summary:

- Add me to the camp of 'hell fucking yeah he signed The Rules as Dan Lester and no I don't understand why but I'm so here for it'.

- Add me to the camp of finding the Tipsy Talk video ok. I use the word deliberately. I'm long enough in the tooth to know Phil wouldn't actually get tipsy even before he confirmed as such in his ls. So it was basically exactly what I expected. Nice to have some content. Nice that it was fairly un-AP. Just... nice.

- I don't really know much of Hazel's stuff so this comes from no bias whatsoever: I don't think she was particularly dismissive or derogatory towards the phandom. I gleaned a sort of attitude of wonderment about them and their dedication. Like they'd be filling up bars, they don't even need to promo their tour etc. Kind of like how people who aren't complete arseholes view directioners: impressively dedicated and whilst they can't quite wrap their head around it, they respect it. As she used to manage (sort of) D&P she, I'd like to think, would be way too business savvy to underestimate such a following and belittle it.

- Can I create a new camp of people that expected a Dil video tonight? They quite frequently upload on Sunday evenings and I kind of thought as Phil's away Dan would have been hard at work editing. Oh and to add my two cents to why I think they've gone at separate times, that's what I think: Dan does most of the editing and as he said in his ls they've been furiously filming to avoid a proper drought so I assumed he was staying back to focus on that before full on tour time.

Its not unheard of for them to upload around 11pm but when I logged on 10 mins ago and saw nothing I lost most of my hope on that one. Give me a gaming vid boys my skin is itching.

Oh and I don't know if I can watch the weakest link vid... my second hand embarrassment gland is generally overactive and I just don't know if I could handle it. Although I love a sassy Phil so maybe I'll find a pillow to bite down on and just watch it idk.

Edit on Phil hardly looking at Dan. I've always assumed that's because he knows exactly how he looks when he looks at Dan... i.e. just like Dan looks when he looks at Phil. With a bit too much affection for someone who's so guarded. So he just doesn't do it unless required. And actually if you go through times where he's just regarding him rather than speaking to him or looking for an actual reason... you may well see what I mean

But I've watched most of her Tipsy Talks (the majority of which are not tipsy, so I wasn't expecting a drunk Phil anyway); all I expected was two people talking shit and I was not disappointed. I think my favourite detail was she showed up with a bunch of candy for Phil, like what? And that opening part with the "gesticulate" comment was clearly from after he spilled his drink in his crotch and she said he was never hotter. I would like to see that exchange in order and uncut. Self-deprecating/flirty Phil gives me life and I'd like to subscribe to his newsletter.

Maybe his video will be them actually making the drink. Or not, since Hazel looked surprised... but as Caspar said, "It's show business baby." Oh or maybe they do something with the candy, he did offhandedly mention a tasting candy video, maybe it wasn't so offhand...

I can definitely understand how lgbtq+ viewers would appreciate the extra representation. I guess my issue is the fact Dan hasn't built his reputation & career around his sexuality? I mean it's become a huge part of D&P, but it's not something they signed up for? They never knew they'd be this big, & I'd hate to think of all my jokes on social media that'd be misconstrued if I was in the same spot, like their's have. yes he has shaky hands in a lot of videos but mostly the ones from 2015 until know and i always wonder why! i really hope it's not from anxiety during filming as this is something that's supposed to be fun for him

I loved the Tipsy video, apart from the poop talk that went on too long and overuse of the squawking chicken. It's interesting to see him be more himself, but also subtly in charge. It's odd that he seemed more open than usual saying "let's not go there!" just cos saying he didn't want to go there is more of him that we usually see.

Making her the drink was lovely, I'm intrigued how almond milk (as he tweeted) makes it taste of hazelnuts. You can get hazelnut milk too, it's nicer than almond imo, but they're both a bit strong. Very swish sprinkling chocolate on top and everything. A+ husband material there.

Lurktacularr I'm giving Dan an hour or two more, don't expect anything tho. I am as bad when it comes to procrastinating if not worst than Dan, Idk if he is more productive now that he knows they must have at least 6 vids for dapg to fill out for 3 months with a schedule of 2 vids per month, but I don't think it was the greatest idea to leave him alone for all the editing if that's the reason at all.
