liveshow today!
EDIT: well someone else has posted it already so this is really a ponintless post to go on top of the page I'm so sorry.
That said...if he's doing a liveshow today...will he still pop in Phil's on thursday? why would he need to?

from what I remember, the livegaming was still being tested with no promises attached to it. And besides, the last thing you ever want to do is drop all the videos in one go. It's way better to film a whole bunch in quick succession, then edit and spread out the actual uploading. They could've filmed a month's worth of gaming videos in a single week. Doesn't mean they'll upload it immediately.JustMe wrote:What I don't understand is why Dan would mention doing so many videos and then upload so little. In his last liveshow he mentioned filming Sims, golf with friends, candle haul, livegaming and dream daddy, which is the only one that was actually uploaded. If he knew he was going to be so busy because of a project reveal, why mention/ hype us for all of the content he was going to make (and soon too: if I remember correctly he said he would film all of the gaming vids he mentioned that week (which is two weeks ago)). I'm a confused, content starved mess.
I definitely think liveshow or gaming vid. In case of neither I will rebel (who's with me?)
And like others have pointed out, it's only been a couple of days without content, we've had way longer before. This is still fine and perfectly normal for them. I agree the hype has been created by the fandom itself and not by D&P, and I haven't noticed anything particularly out of the ordinary.
If there really is a secret project, wouldn't you want them to keep it secret a bit longer so they can really work on perfecting it and making sure everything's ready to go before announcing anything?

I think he just wanted to let us know that there will be videos of games we have wanted to see, but it didn't mean that they would be uploaded more often than usually, probably just once a week like usual. Maybe they do often film in a bulk and then just edit the videos when the release is near. Or maybe they filmed more than usually because of whatever it is that Dan says he's been so busy with. I really do hope he will do a liveshow today though, it would be lovely.JustMe wrote:What I don't understand is why Dan would mention doing so many videos and then upload so little. I'm sad about the tinder video, I really loved that one, it was hilarious. It's kinda weird if he didn't ask the permission to use the conversations, I thought he had definitely done that. But there were like two? people with more unique names, so I can't really blame them not wanting to be on a video.

[offtopic]Dude, I love SPSS too! And I was literally just thinking about doing some kind of cluster analysis of the survey data, because just based on observation I definitely feel there are distinct subsets of fans who have similar attitudes towards deppy and their relationship which might be mediated by length of time in phandom, their main platforms for discussion, demographics, or other vairables, and I'd really want to see if that actually holds up! Oh no, now my brain is generating potential hypotheses...LtrllySusan wrote: [offtopic]By this point I believe I am the only person on the planet to actually like SPSS. I'd absolutely go nuts if I got my hands on the raw Phandom survey data. Imagine a cluster analysis; finally, a proper way of segmenting the phandom... I'm drooling, I gotta stop thinking about it.[/offtopic]
Also agreed that I prefer results over discussion any day... I rewrote mine for my thesis a million times[/offtopic]

I understand filming them all in one go, but it's weird to me for him to mention all of those things and then upload less frequently than they've been doing all year. Usually he doesn't mentions much about what they will film next (one hint at most), so why mention so much when you're going to upload so little compared to usual? But maybe it's just me with skewed perception
Also yay liveshow

It's really interesting that Tinder asked Dan to take down the video. I'd guess that someone who featured in it asked them to, so that answers the question of if the people in there are real and if Dan made up names for them. I wonder if something like this will impact on how much moolah he made from it...
Looking forward to his explanation of what happened in his LS. Looking forward to his LS in general, actually. I'm expecting cute Lester family stories, don't disappoint me Dan!
I know we got used to the two-vids-a-week thing quite fast, but they haven't been doing that for very long at all, so I wouldn't say they've been uploading much less than usual.

I thought he mentioned those as possibilities, not that they were for sure filming? At least for the bits like livestreaming or candle hauls, he was more feeling out how the fans felt about it rather than confirming they were doing it. I think someone in the chat brought up Golf with Friends, and he just responded with something along the lines of "You guys want that? We'll put it in the queue". It does suck that he's just dangling all these interesting things in front of us, though.JustMe wrote:I understand filming them all in one go, but it's weird to me for him to mention all of those things and then upload less frequently than they've been doing all year. Is it possible that someone in the video threatened to sue Tinder and therefore they don't want the video re-uploaded even with the person cut out to avoid further problems? Though I don't see the person having an actual case.
[offtopic]Someone ask Dan to shoutout the SPSS Stans tonight please

I think the main reason were all feeling a little, idk, like were having less content, is also because we didn't get our usual two live shows last week, they fill in the gaps between uploading normally, at least for me.
It doesn't help that phil has only just came back from being ill, and going back to work (and yes it is their job so shhh) after being ill is always a right pain in the ass.
Idk, I doubt their is anything major coming in terms of their relationship/situation, but maybe a new project or a family thing. I'm not even nearly as excited for this month as I was in the days leading up to it.
Looking forward to Dan's live show tonight, really wasn't expecting one, just hope the chat isn't too wild about badgering him about things. (although I never watch live so I wouldn't know)

i could see one of the men dan talked to wanting it taken down if they're not ready to be outed. its unlikely that anyone would really be recognized by a blur of pixels and a name but someone in that situation would definitely be on higher alert and more likely to stress about it.
if that was the case, i wonder how dan would address it in the ls as he's never really said anything or addressed the fact that he was matching with both men and women (and more men if i remember correctly) in the tinder video. so i do wonder if he'll say anything about that. looking forward to the ls in general as well as i feel starved for content lately.

[offtopic]once all the results are posted they're going to be doing correlations between tons of the results and i believe this has already been requested as one of them![/offtopic]sparkle wrote:[offtopic]could those of us who want to further analyse the survey request the raw data when the survey finishing coming out? A moment of silence for the Tinder spon. Holy did it get views in the last three weeks.
I'm HERE for the ls tea. I'll be tuning in for sure.

I think more than anything it's a tinder issue. Maybe they've used it as an excuse because they were paying per number of views? It's weird that they won't let it be edited. Maybe they've hit the advertisement they want now. There was also the weirdness around TomSkas video.
I think Tinder's not being fully truthful.

RIP dan's tinder video- you will be missed however i am looking forward to dan's liveshow today! was hoping he'd do one today

i'm not that surprised it got taken down tbh? even with censorship of some level a lot of people would rather not have it known that they're on a dating app, especially if it's a queer dude who may not be fully out, or if it's someone sensitive about their location being released as being close to someone whose location will likely be identified. generally videos of 'interacting with X' don't have the bet track record because not everyone wants to consent to having part of them judged or talked about online when there's a wide audience

I agree with this. Also just to add a layer, if it came down to Dan not having asked permission, then it's people being used in an advertisement for a company without being aware of it or compensated for it.jaej wrote:i'm not that surprised it got taken down tbh? even with censorship of some level a lot of people would rather not have it known that they're on a dating app, especially if it's a queer dude who may not be fully out, or if it's someone sensitive about their location being released as being close to someone whose location will likely be identified. generally videos of 'interacting with X' don't have the bet track record because not everyone wants to consent to having part of them judged or talked about online when there's a wide audience
Perhaps I'm being naive but I just assumed he'd have to get permission from his Tinder matches to feature them in his video, even if they were partially disguised. i even thought he'd probably slipped them a few quid as recompense for their participation! To release the video without their permission seems like asking for trouble
But were their faces or names actually shown? There are a lot of John Smiths, you know.alittledizzy wrote:I agree with this. I would be really surprised if he didn't ask permission. I think of Dan as so cognizant of social issues and asking permission seems to be something that naturally fits into that. But maybe he just felt pressure to finish the video and get the sponsorship that it just slipped his mind.DatCog wrote:Perhaps I'm being naive but I just assumed he'd have to get permission from his Tinder matches to feature them in his video, even if they were partially disguised. i even thought he'd probably slipped them a few quid as recompense for their participation! The answer to what happened to that 9.2% went is sadly that it fell down a hole of inconsistently incorrectly formatted punctuation (some of the apostrophes became other things, but not all of them), camouflaged by a lack of thoroughness(/time, if you want to be unnecessarily generous). aka we(/I) lost it. Thank you for pointing this out!! The posts have now been corrected and the correct data is below:capybantsa wrote:I tried to do an analysis on it, but my soul hurt too much when I realized 9.2% was missing. WHERE IS THAT 9.2%?

This actually pushes the % of people who ever believe their relationship has been romantic up to 50.30%, while those who only ever believe it has been platonic remains at 31.67%, and those who didn't indicate goes up to 18.04%.
re: raw data - We will indeed be releasing it, likely after correlations have been posted. The plan currently is to post comparisons to the 2015 data (one section at a time, maybe one per day? we'll see how fast it gets done!), then start posting correlation. Age/sexuality vs shipping/'believing' have indeed been requested in I believe all possible combinations of sets of two. Please do feel free to request correlations on our tumblr!
Loving the survey chat on here, wish I had more time to participate but I should really get back to the last bits of analysis. Sorry and thank you again about that data error!

I think he pretty obviously didn't ask for permission. In the video, he said things like "They didn't reply to me after that" and "I scared them off" (or something like that). Additionally, the guy who claimed to be in the video didn't sound like he was prepared it was coming. I really doubt Dan would want written consent (does a Tinder msg even count legally?), think about the effort - dozens of strangers who would likely not reply, be embarrased, wanting to see his videos first, telling their friends... This would have likely leaked.obscureDnPreference wrote:I would be really surprised if he didn't ask permission. This is all true and I'm positive you're right. It just seems like something he would be really cognizant of and maybe blur out more, like the names. Idek. Back when we discussed the whole male/female names thing, I addressed why he left the names (although some of which are quite unique and identifiable) in: I think this video was a means for him to "come out" low-key. Leaving the names in had a clear function and might be important for his general agenda.obscureDnPreference wrote:This is all true and I'm positive you're right. Also sorry for being so spammy today, I'm sick and having a pyjama day and kinda not doing anything but sitting on here
thought i'd mention that as of now the video is still up in full on facebook... i don't know if that means youtube had an issue with it or he just hasn't gotten around to deleting it off facebook...
