Dan & Phil Part 59: the literal other half

ugh that's so annoying. I'm also in DFW and while I totally want to go to a show of theirs, I do not want to drive to austin for it. Maybe if we could plan a whole trip around it, but i'm not willing to be in my car for that long just for Dip and Dot.

Fellow Texan here! But I live in Houston, and was very lucky that they came here. I couldn't have reasonably driven 3 hours to Austin, because the show was on a weekday, (Wednesday I think), and I had to work the day of the show and the day after. A road trip would definitely not have worked.

I have to say though, that I really enjoyed the show (despite being one of the oldest people there). Luckily, I had my 16 year old daughter to beard for me . If they come back, I'll definitely go, and drag her with me again.

Hey fellow Texans!! Yeah, our state is so huge driving from one big city to another is like a freakin road trip, lmao.

I didn’t jump in on the age discussion some pages back, but I’m 20 so I think I’d feel pretty comfortable at a dnp-related event. I look like I’m basically 12 anyway, rip.

I live in North Dakota so I have to drive at least four hours to go almost anywhere for a concert or show. I regularly drive four hours for work so it doesn't seem like that much to me. I can drive eight hours in one direction and not even find a town of my size. I love how driving distances and thoughts about them vary from place to place! It's so interesting to me.

Omg I would die. I normally drive 5 minutes to work if I hit both red lights. Once I had to drive to the location that was 20 minutes away and there was a moment where I actually thought about quitting. Not a long moment, but I was a serious one.

Relatable, omg. I was going to a community college in the spring/summer 5 minutes from my house and then transferred to a school 40 minutes away this semester. Making that drive every day is a pain in the ass, I can’t imagine driving four hours to work!

I’m bringing back the discussion from a few pages back because I’m late as fuck. I’m very young for this website being only 15. I started watching YouTube five years ago. I used to go to the computer lab with my friends on Thursdays and watch smosh and Jennamarbles. Three years ago I found deppy. I had heard people talking about them at school and they were always in my recommend. I really loved their videos. I don’t know what it was about them but I just couldn’t stop watching them. My younger brothers used to love the too. I would babysit them and all we would do is watch their videos. My brother Phillip really loves pinof1 because there is a weird mask in one frame. Anyway I saw tabinof and had a blast. As I entered high school I began to get sick. Last February I hit rock bottom. I lost my ability to walk and my fatigue was very bad. On my bad days I couldn’t watch videos, but on the days that I was up to that I would watch deppy (and you’re the worst). When I was able to read more I went to idb. I heard negative things about the website, but decided to check it out for myself. I really liked the atmosphere and became a lurker and then finally joined. I don’t contribute often but I love reading what others have to say. I also really loved Dan’s mental health video. It helped me be more open and come to terms with my conversion disorder, which has always embarrassed me. Anyway I’m really thankful that I found deppy. They are an amazing escape and I know that their videos have made the lives of tons of people better. I am also so happy that I found this website. I really didn’t click with most of the phandom (I found them batshit crazy), but I feel like I found a place in the phandom where people with differing opinions can have discussions.

What’s going to exhaust me though is if they enter this tour with out yet coming out (in either sense)... all the awkward dodged questions, the heavy handed dropping of “best friend” into every anecdote, busgate 2.0, the deep sleuthing of every hotel schematic that they stay in to find out if their room has one bed or 2, etc... and if it’s that tireing as a fan, it must be unbelievably exhausting for D&P be so on display during something like a tour, yet so incredibly guarded of their true selves.

So the last time tour was to celebrate the world of “dan and Phil” and was very much inside jokes and playing up their online personas. I’m excited to see what this tour could be. Will it be more Dan Howell and Phil Lester than “ danisnotonfire and amazing phil” because they have done that and said their wouldn’t be another show like tatinof. I really hope it’s not heavy on the “ best friend brand” even though that’s their whole thing and has been for a while now. I don’t even think they are a couple and even I get sick of the “ best friends” thing.

Also I think they have been so open this year that I would hope that it’s not as stressful as trying to workout if they’ve sleep in the same hotel room or bus bed to the point where we start looking up bus blueprints again. Hopefully we can all just take it for what it is, but considering we will probably we starved for content I doubt that will happen

Whatever it is they seem very excited about it! Phil was already talking about having take out to celebrate their announcement, which is very funny to me so I’m guessing they are proud of the way they will reveal to us all what it will consist of.

I’m selfishly glad we kinda found out what’s it was a day before because the stress of people getting excited saying that it will have something to do with their “relationship” was getting to me and I was honestly scared that they would get the same reaction as last time but people being mad it’s not about “phan”.

Anyway I’m excited for tonight I hope we all have fun abd receive what ever this thing is well.

Apartment layout specialists, I have a question! So, we know the moon room is downstairs (Dan commented recently in a liveshow that he left his charger upstairs) and I think it was confirmed that the moon room had an ensuite bathroom, right? Or at least that’s a reasonable assumption? And the thought is that Phil’s room and the gaming room are on the upper floor because they have the white tile floor instead of wood, right? (I haven’t kept up with recent layout speculation) We know they have at least 2 bathrooms, (I'm sure I’ve seen at least two showers in their videos, with different tile work) one in the master and one for the presumedly-upstairs bedrooms. Just wanted to point out that Phil’s bath occurred on the lower floor, because he was shouting up at Dan, where we know the master bedroom is for sure. Now, I’m already convinced they share a room so this isn’t exactly a huge revelation, plus we don’t actually know their layout so it’s not confirmed, but I just wanted to throw it out there. Not trying to be creepy, just an observation.

First of all, I got out of therapy to see the tour leak stuff and literally felt so excited. I haven't felt that excited since d&p announced the USA tour! I'm hoping they come near by again (I leave near NYC), I really need something to look forward to in my life.
Second of all, after everything this year, I kinda don't expect a content drought. I mean when deppy went away to that AUS convention for like three weeks, they filmed enough videos for two per week. And same when they went to flordia for three weeks. To me, The main reason we had a content drought with the USA tatinof was because they thought they could film a few gaming videos on the go (which they could clearly not do). They learned from it in my opinion, I say to just have low expectations but also be a bit optimistic. This year has shown me that they've learned prefilming is important to sustain some kinda audicene on YouTube. Remember those videos would have to take the place of live streams!

(Side note when it comes to room situations on tour, a few things I want to point out. One is that, I'm pretty sure they don't book the rooms; that's what tour management does. They'd probably just ask if they want one room or two, regardless of together or not(?). Two is that I don't think they'd have a tour bus this time?? I don't think it's gonna be just a huge USA tour again? They're probably just going to do to the 10 major cities in the states and 2/3 Canadian cities and possibly a few cities in Mexico. I can't see them doing over 36 tour dates in the USA again but that's just me...)

That being said, there would be no dapgo this time (as I'm sure it's been mentioned) so social media should not be as droughtful as it was back then. I expect it to be like it was all this year with the photos on all their trips. also I wonder if lemonademoney might be the ones to possibly film/edit this tour. I mean after all... they are a production company. or as someone mentioned before somewhere (Sorry if I can't quote names directly as I'm kinda busy rn but wanna get this out!), if they have something to do with a possible tralier for the tour!

Also, I'm still laughing at how phil wants us to be surprised about all this still and Dan's been out here dropping tour hints for months. on a final note, his bath story time was golden today. I hadn't watched any live show in about a month and honestly that was a great live show to come back too.

I was almost gonna post but I almost forgot to add this question. How do we think the tour is gonna go? As in do you think that they might tour a continent every other month type deal? Like one month they'll be in the states/Canada/Mexico. Take a month off then go to another to another continent? If they did that it might make things a bit less stressful and more chill but will have to wait and see, but I kinda wanna know what you guys think? Is that unrealistic?

Ok so this has been at the back of my mind ever since the tour talk started.

This year, or rather these past few months, dan and phil have really begun to break that barrier that they've held up for so long, Dan with his deeply personal video on his depression and just their overall interactions in front of the camera. To me it seems as if they're slowly trying to get rid of the facade so if and when they decide to "come out", it won't be such a shock. (not that the majority of us would be shocked lol)

Since Dan has said that they will won't do a tatinof-type show again, this leads me to believe that the 2018 tour will be a bit more authentic/personal, sit-down type. To tie in VengefulBlue's post, I agree that constantly having to "cover their tracks" with issues about hotel rooms/tour bus/etc. would be too tiring and not at all keeping with their new mentality of being more open with the phandom. Being "out" would be so much easier imo.

And let's not forget that in Dan's ls he implied that The Thing and Touring were not the same. So maybe it's because it's 1:35 am and I'm a sleep deprived college student but I think there is Something Else along with the tour that they will be announcing, at least before pinof.

With that being said, even though I'm most likely wrong, I'm excited about their announcement!

Ooooh, it's interesting to see that this tour is being done in theatres as well. I thought maybe they'd do something fairly simple this time around, but it's looking to be a bit more extravagant than I was expecting. Definitely more exciting than just a panel or something, I'm curious to see what they have planned.

It's a non-issue for me living in Toronto since not much of anything skips us, but I'm hoping for everyone's sake that they're able to come to a reasonable variety of places around the world

Hi everyone! I'm returning from the dead after three months of school, drivers ed, and extensive big projects. It took forever to catch up with what I missed, but I've finally caught up. (Note: don't read the whole pdp discussion in one night, it'll fuck you up seriously).

But besides that, I came here to talk about some comments I've seen around the phandom which are really starting to piss me off a bit. I've seen some people say that the person who shared the links to the leaks for different dnp announcements is the person at fault for the spoiling of announcements. I honestly couldn't disagree more with this. We are a community and if one of us finds something relevant to a current discussion than sharing it is just something that is going to happen, and you can't police that. It's also in dnp's hands to keep surprises they don't want out yet hidden. They have a company after all which puts them in charge of how announcements happen. It's not our job as a fanbase to make sure their announcements stay surprises. I don't think it's wrong to speculate on what they are doing either, it's pretty much the whole point of being deep into any fandom.

I've seen a lot of leaks in the fandoms I've been in over the years, and most of the time it's been blamed on the company (or an employee/store who lets it out too early) for not keeping it secure. So I'm surprised when I see people accusing our own community for spoiling it.

For example Nintendo, a fanbase I've been a part of for years, has had many leaks especially concerning smash bros and what was known as the NX at the time (now the switch). When smash 4 was coming out and the switch was just a rumor you'd get hundreds of articles claiming they had a leak, whether or not that was true. It got really tiring after awhile because we would know everything that Nintendo would do before they would do it. But it's a part of the culture of being a Nintendo fan, and a fan in general.

Before e3 it's custom to make bingo cards predicting the announcements based on rumors and leaks. Hour long discussions are made just to discuss the predictions for the next season. Some fans would get so annoyed that we would figure everything out before hand, however it was not commonly directed at fans. It was/is nintendo's fault for not securing their announcement from fans because it's their product, they are in charge here. If they want to keep it a surprise then they have to make the necessary precautions. Even when talking about data miners, people who go into the code of the game and try to find code that will hint at future updates/dlc, aren't completely at fault. Yes, they actively went to find out announcements beforehand, but Nintendo is a huge company who's paying talented employees to create secure software. Now, dnp aren't as big as Nintendo, but if they want to have surprises then they have to keep it under wraps. It's not our responsibility to make sure dnp have a big surprise in Friday or any other day because that's not our job.

I hope that gets my point across. I don't mean to offend anyone if I did. I'm not the best writer, but I try my best. But yeah, It's nice to see all of you again !

they went all over the uk and all over america and australia, but europe tour was germany, stockholm and ireland? what?

I looked into this a bit earlier today cos statistics are fun lol, but there’s like roughly twice as many people in Europe in total as there’s in the US on roughly the same area. Despite this they performed like 40 shows in the US (I don’t know for sure, but it’s a qualified guess cos i couldn’t fine the exact amount lol) as opposed to 3 (or were there 4? My memory is all over the place) in Europe I mean, yes they probably have a big fan base in the US, but there’s the rest of the world too! There’s loads more people in Europe on the same amount of land as the US but we got 3 (or 4) dates centred in only Northern Europe and I’m not even going to try bringing up Asia or South America cos I know to little of the amount of fans vs the vast amount of land, to actually know if it’s unfair to not tour there or not #uneducated

The issue is that you can't calculate the amount of shows based on the general population. Dan and Phil are English entertainment and therefore have a much bigger audience in English-speaking countries.
Since I am currently still working on some analyses for the Dan & Phil survey and have the raw data on hand, here's a quick frequency count of the people who took that survey - note that this is not a replica of their actual demographics but rather a sample of the more engaged phandom. I would love to see their actual YT demographics


Everything else is less than 1% of the total sample.

(And cause someone brought up Scandinavia which also happens to be my proximity: Sweden 1.4%, Finland 1.0%, Denmark 0.6%, Norway 0.4% - If they don't have a show in every Scandinavian capital, let's not be too mad)

Interesting question! I think that would be good for them, but I could also see them just doing one big tour because I am not sure/very curious about how much of the world they're gonna tour with this world tour. So excited to find out the details!

Hnnnggg I'm very curious about the tour and I think I would actually love to go, if possible. Denmark is often skipped with these sorts of things so I'm pretty used to jumping on trains and planes for concerts and staying the night at a station somehwere I could probably even convince my partner to come along so I wouldn't be alone (they have admitted that they would probably not watch anything on their own, but joins me for everything, is just as entertained and lets me ramble whenever there's gossip soooooooo...) I guess it's really just a question of money. Deppy is one of my happy places right now while things are rough so it would be nice to see them, I figure.

The conversation has kinda moved on, but I wanted to share my origin story real quick as well. It's kinda vague to me, but I stumbled upon Dan in early 2013 when I started watching a bunch of youtubers in general. ALB and Dan were the only ones to stick around from then. I had dropped out of uni a couple months before and was Depressed TM, so I'm sure you can see what the appeal was for me I kinda just stuck around with more or less interest through the years, the gaming channel really did it for me though. Had a round of that sweet adhd hyperfixation on them last spring (oops) and spent daaaayysss (weeks?) on Dip and Dot content and uuh also missed class a couple of times. That's also when I found IDB. It's, aah, it's more manageble now haha, but overall, I think I've been left an actual fan and not just casual fan/viewer since spring Oh yeah, agewise I'm turning 26 this month.

My problem more is that some of the cities in the US that they visited had populations under 100,000, compared to the capital of a country that still had a large number of viewers. Some of their US cities probably had fewer viewers than some European cities that were omitted.

I think that what ever company or thingy or something that decides which countries/cities a tour should go, makes a big mistake ignoring smaller countries' capitals. I know for a fact that if they did come to my country, they'd have a pretty big audience. But idk, I don't wanna get bitter before they announce anything.

i think the percent of people taking the survey (and/or watching) from Scandinavia is actually surprisingly high, considering that the populations of Sweden and Finland are only 1/20 to 1/2 of the other non-english-speaking countries listed (not that it means anything, ik the percentage isn't what matters). a bit surprised about Norway though, i thought they were the superfan country? but yeah, I'm definitely seeing a Stockholm show incoming. Sweden was also one of the top 10 viewers' home countries listed in tabinof, if i remember correctly? didn't they almost sell out both shows last time there? and consider that back then 1) it was their last tour stop 2) and took place AFTER tatinof movies 3) it was in the middle of winter 4) it was announced kinda lazily ngl 5) ...+ after over a year of waiting. I definitely believe that they could easily sell out 2 Scandinavia shows (or whatever it is that they are doing this time), even 3 (2 in Stockholm, 1 in Helsinki - how long do we have to continue spamming live show chats until that happens?). just these unrealistic dreams make me so excited for tonight!

planning a tour is not as simple as "we have a big audience in these countries/cities, let's go there" even though everyone wishes it was. we know that tatinof was pretty much whatever venues would take them, and i doubt this interactive introverts tour was that much different when booking venues. uk and usa venues know them and know they can sell out these 2.5k-3k capacity venues, but i don't fault venues in other countries being cautious and unsure. they also have to figure out visas and travel logistics. i said earlier that tickets starting at $50 here in the states is a reasonable price for me considering what goes into a tour. ticket prices are almost always higher here in the states, so i don't think we'll be seeing tickets starting at £50 in the uk.

on a related note, danandphiltour.com the tour site is finally loading again. it used to not even connect, but now it's showing a "blank" page that does contain code. last time i looked it up on whois, the last updated date was 3/8/2017, but a quick lookup says the url was last updated today, 11/10/2017.

Ok but for real, they better come to DFW this time, the only good thing about living in Dallas, TX is being sure that most, if not all, concerts, events, etc will go to Dallas, and for TABINOF they did not, I think they hit San Antonio and maybe Houston??? Idk but I was disappointed. I wonder when exactly they'll tour America, probably over summer? Hopefully, that way I'll be back from college.

I wonder if they really will focus on more non-US places this time. I mean more in Europe, Asia, back to Australia/New Zealand? That would make more sense with Dan’s comment about seeing “even more” of everybody
