I'm currently going through Phil's tumblr likes. They're quite different from Dan's. Basically they're just really good (usually Phil-centric) phanart, most of which is wishing him happy birthday or congratulating his channel on 3 million subs. So the non-phanart ones (like the robot one) really stick out and are extra-interesting. I haven't gotten back very far, and I should go to bed soon, but I just want to leave you all with this gem:

I'm in a weird mood lately where I'm completely burnt out on commenting on their content. like i'm still consuming it, and finding things to enjoy about it, but...eh, i dunno. Sims was below par game-play, and Phil's slight annoyance at Dan's loudness was amusing, because it contrasted with a kind of difficult-to-read moment that i'm going to put goggles on and assume was affection (5.48). US states with Hazel was bloody awful (Phil, you can do better, and you know it); Tipsy Talk was intriguing simply because Phil controlled the entire thing and neither got tipsy nor revealed anything, which in itself is revealing...except maybe confirming his sound mental health (ability to adapt is a very healthy survival trait), and his (completely typical, culturally) fear/discomfort with talking about death. I wonder how he handles that in conversation with Dan. and just negative topics in general. it's super interesting to consider.
OH. wait. the best thing of the last week was not Dan's choke me daddy tweet - as much as it pains me to admit, because that is a pretty big highlight - it was definitely Phil saying he'd eat sushi of 'a body', 'if it's on offer'. Phil? Lester? Theory:
I've sort of been feeling like the tour stress finally caught up with Phil during the second half of 2015 sometime, just not in a very obvious way. Looking at Dan's channel I think most of us can agree his quality dropped around the start of 2015 and he also started uploading less, but imo Phil's channel seemed very unaffected for a long time...? I remember him having lots of great videos the first half of 2015 that I really enjoyed (personal faves: Punk Edits, Phil in the Club, Easter baking, Japhan DITL, I Destroyed My House) and many of them seemed like they'd take some proper planning and/or actual thought to pull off. But then later that year there were a lot of challenges and a few videos like The Contact Lens Incident and Phil reading his old diary that just felt sort of... sub-par. Like the ideas were good but he could have put a lot more effort into the execution of them (compare his diary-reading, where he's legit just reading from the book, to his older videos reading his chat logs where he plays all the characters). I like to think that that's the touring finally taking its toll on Phil's channel.
I have not been feeling that way about 2016 Phil. I don't think his videos have been sub-par this year. But I do think they all seem to be a bit lower-effort. Collabs are famously easy content, and his other 2 videos have been a reaction video and what's basically a vlog. Low-effort content during a busy time of his life, yeah? Smart decision, if it's a conscious one, because it makes it less noticable that he's strapped for time/energy right now. Like I agree with daphenaxa about the Hazel collab being very unplanned, but personally I didn't mind that it was because I still enjoyed it as a collab and as the two of them hanging out and having bants, you know?
Yeah I think I agree on your theory actually. And it correspond to the image of Dan and Phil that I have in my mind. Dan stresses before things. Like a lot. He stresses himself up, builds a mountain of anxiety before a task should be done but when he finally does it, he is actually a lot more comfortable. And that's what we saw during the tour where he maybe didn't upload great fantastic quality videos but where he uploaded A LOT. I think Phil is the contrary. He is more organized and rational so doesn't particularly stresses up before the tour but when he was caught up in it, it's just that he didn't have enough time to invest in his videos so they were more simple.
I agree with all of this.
And I can understand Phil going this way, I can't imagine how busy he currently is. I'm just hoping that a ditl is going to be uploaded during the tour, shouldn't be too much effort for him and lots of fun for us.

I cant link it for some reason but the one where Troy looks at a pictures and its Dan in his wildcat gear And this is something I really appreciate about Phil, his support for the creators. You can tell from the beginning that they had formed an interaction with their fans and they have still maintained a level of personability (that's not a word but it works so I'm going to use it) with us. They know all the weird phanarts and edits we make and appreciate them.
And akui you summarized what I said on an old GG post. Dan reels them in with his popularity and Phil keeps them around. They both are able to pull new fans through Dan' videos then people stay interested when Phil is introduced to the equation. Yea he is the silly counterpart but the dynamic and chemistry they bring is pretty profound.If we look at the numbers (I hate comparisons, but for the sake of argument) Dan really lost his core viewers when his content dropped whereas AP has kept the relative viewership constant. They garner about the same views (average is 2 mill) so more people are now appreciating both of them.
With their fan interactions,twitter, tumblr, younow, they are building a community that are dedicated enough to fight for them no matter what. Yes the phandom members can be agressive to other youtubers but on the flip side they are one of the funniest and most entertaining fandoms I have been a part of. And DP acknowledge them with subtle nods here and there like Phil saying he reads phanfiction (and that he really gets into them ) and Dan fangirling over Anahita. They know everything the fans do which encourages them to continue.
