why was that so funny to me

There's another one where she goes, 'Are you single?' and Dan just goes, 'Can you tell?' That's not an answer, Dan.

I find the fact Dan never references his relationship status interesting, I get his not a sharer so it's not like I'd be expecting real and private details but he lives to be relatable and what is more relatable then being a singleton? (which Dan supposedly has been for six years.)

If we are to believe he really has been largely single for the last 6 years I can't believe self-deprecating jokes about the state of his love life/not being able to get a date/dying alone did not get incorporated into his brand (even if being single is his choice and his happy with it). I find the fact Dan never references his relationship status interesting, I get his not a sharer so it's not like I'd be expecting real and private details but he lives to be relatable and what is more relatable then being a singleton? (which Dan supposedly has been for six years.)

PHIL'S INTERESTING TUMBLR LIKES

Lest I be accused of playing favorites (even though I totally do play favorites; I'm sorry), I decided to go through all of Phil's Tumblr likes and pick out the ones I found interesting for one reason or another. I feel like looking back on these, the ones I deemed "interesting" are mainly the ones that involve Dan, but c'est la vie.

As I said the other night, the majority of Phil's likes are really good phanart of him, generally 1) wishing him happy birthday or 2) congratulating his channel or the gaming channel on some subscriber milestone. If you scroll back far enough, there are a lot of drawing-game related ones (like, he liked people's drawings).

Some differences I noticed between Dan and Phil's likes:

• There's nothing really sexual to be found in Phil's likes...
• ...although there are hints that Phil is not so innocent
• Phil likes a lot more phanart than Dan does
• Phil's likes have no strong "no-homo" bent in 2012 (though there may be a slight one, as he liked a few posts overtly about female attraction)

I think Jameela was like trying to hitting on Dan at the first but slowly realised Phan is love phan is live so she started shipping phan instead. All good girl.

I think tomska is firmly in the film maker category, and is (with video content), the same as the hazel and jack people. Dan is the one who's different, imo, because, content wise, Phil is the same as a gleamer. But, content wise, Emma Blackery makes similar content to Dan.

I get what you mean about the attitude, but, I don't think the label of film maker or the kind of content really makes someone an asshole. I think it's the people who think being a film maker gives them a moral high ground who are assholes, not really film makers in general, if that makes any sense?

Yeah yeah, I categorized them purely came from a perspective of attitude rather than content. Technically Tom is also a filmmaker but he doesn't carry much ego when it comes to fandoms and his peers compare to hazel(s). He calls people out only when he thinks they did something wrong, not because he is "much better than whoever". And I'm not sure about other youtubers so i can't say.

i totally agree with you here! i mean i know they are private, especially dan when it comes to his personal relationships but still, it seems to me that being 'forever single' would have been a meme train he would not have missed the opportunity to jump on in term of being #relatable so i find total radio silence on the subject pretty telling but yeah who knows probably the longest sentence i've written soz, can you tell i'm trying to write an academic article atm

Jameela's treatment of D&P's relationship has always reminded me of Cat's. Like I like them both, and their faces are quite excellent, but something about how they treat them has been off to me. It's funny to see clips with Jameela, I haven't seen much of the older radio shows, but the way she talks to them is cute, all "gentleman, how are you?" and "right, boys". I didn't like what she said to Phil the week after the ice-down-the-pants, it was crude and he was so embarrassed. I do like Phil in shorts, though (Dan too, and in that leather shirt).

She's so attractive. Her face and her voice and the way she talks. Forget Deppy. Marry me Jameela. The ice joke made me laugh but it was kind of inappropriate.

it's always seemed to me like they both tried so hard to present them as single straight and that's that (be it the several "are you single?" questions from Jameela or Cat's "two bedrooms!!" in that VidCon vlog or the "my straight friend Dan who likes fashion" tweet) that it always felt like there was more to the story to me. Like they're trying a bit too hard.

I guess I've always assumed most people at the BBC (that they work with) know they're together. I'm not sure why that is, and now that I think about it, maybe that wouldn't be safe? But the idea's kind of painful for me to imagine, that their closet extends beyond the internet. As someone who's hung out in closets most her life, it's... Not fun.
So idk, logic does tell me it'd be easier for them to just present themselves as friends at work, which isn't a lie, but I kind of... hope that's not true, I'd rather imagine a world in which the people at R1 are professional enough to be trustworthy not to spil stuff to the internet. But yeah, no, you're probably right.

But this does give us some hope, that Dan and Cornelia will fly out together. And will be waited on by the Lesters when they arrive.
