This is a great point! I always got the sense that Deppy really appreciated their fanbase. Look at how aware they are of everything that goes on. I never thought they would get annoyed with the fanbase because of the support and protection the fanbase gives them. Is it a good protection? Not always. I think it’s pretty obvious that the reason they/the phandom gets treated like that it’s not just because it can be quite annoying, but also because D&P are really successful in what little they do. I mean they are these two guys who hardly upload content to their channels, who don’t even have that many subscribers yet they’re very relevant. This means people will publicly speak very well of them but they will also publicly shame the fan base that makes them famous, and at the same time use them to get views/be relevant.

Just want to say to both of you for the great points. People (phan and other youtubers) make fun of them for keeping to themselves, but I think that's probably THE smartest move they've made. They stay out of the mud pit and above the fray. Even though the phandom is problematic at time they always have good intention and think appreciate that. They show their appreciation by making little lessamazingphil domestic videos, or DITL (give us a tour one ), baking videos, PINOF, and even their running DP crafts. This allows for a more sustainable fanbase that will stay around for these "traditions".
Dan basically addressed the editing tips meme which was the greatest thing to exist and they both acknowledged protip with Phil saying "my people" during his liveshow. They know that they are annoying to the others but I like to think they give no shits. They have the greatest friend/companion in each other so pissing off others won't damage their social game.
I think what DP represent is really special because it shows how two guys with awkward dispositions have gotten so far to gain the dedication of millions. They have an unconventional appeal yet are ruling the internet world and that makes me proud!
And I love that DP are getting love, support and validation. I hope that Phil did get more confident through Youtube and that Dan realized that he really is smart/talented and he didn't need a degree to prove that. This is one of the reason why I feel attracted to . I find it very fascinating how with this amount of followers, they have a very dedicated following. When other youtubers skip their weekly upload schedule, even dedicated fans will lose interest, but deppy manage to pull it off with their no schedule principle and there are hardly any fans walking away. PRAISE!! I think Dan is fascinating in how he built the cult. He knew the secret formula to get a fanbase to become addicted. He was already a tumblr nerd and he realized the power and obsession in those website so he brought those ideas to life. Alot of his videos allude back to tumblr and different fandoms. He is aware of the ships, the bands like TOP and references them. His self-made meme status has really made him popular plus the provocative way he tweets and the sarcastic humour that he carries. I don't know, it's bizarre, and I kinda want to be a part of this bizarre community.
I have absolutely no doubt that he loves the phandom and the power he has over it (and he is not afraid to use it, as we saw in the seven second challenge thing), even though he is slightly scared of it, or was in the beginning (when he had stopped giving opinions).
This same dedicated fans are also what makes the staying power of the phandom so great, because people in fandoms are used to things like hiatuses and stuff, and know how to entertain themselves, which other youtube fans have no patience for.
