Hi guys! Long time lurker first time poster, coming to your from summer-y (boiling hot) Argentina (okay I'll stop).
I had to come out from lurking to ask you all what do you really think about deppy's interactions lately? Like honestly, do you think they might say something? I've been subscribed to them since like 2011 but I was never in the fandom until last year when I found this forum. And I have to tell you I can't actually function whenever they upload nowadays, they flirt SO MUCH it's insane! I've always shipped them but I don't want to hype myself just in case everything is fucking fanservice and they are just "bros". I can't figure out what's happening that they are being like they are being and makes my head hurt and my heart sink.

But the flirt. My god the flirt.

Edit: I'm kinda ashamed my first post is so pointless and got top of the page, sorry guys

You'd probably be safer keeping your hype levels pretty even, they're just friends and they definitely won't say anything until at least after their tour next year is done and that's probably when they'll settle down with wives/girlfriends. But the fanservice is pretty great so I don't mind, I appreciate great acting.
Thanks and have a great day! Oil me

Warning it is late and I am very tired from finals so this may be a mess. Also welcome!! <3
This is a subject I see being discussed quite a bit lately and I have seen a fair few differing opinions but the thing that really irritates me is when people factor this all down to fan service. Not trying to offend you because so many people mention it and I get it trust me but I'm just not a huge fan of the term, and yes I do know Dan has used the term before.

This year has been the year where Dan and Phil have opened up more with what they present on camera. It is no longer clarifications of how something may have been misperceived. Before it was Dan tweeting that he was watching tv in his room, even though he didn't have a tv in there but Phil had one in his room, and then later saying he meant laptop when questioned about it. Now it's Phil reading out a comment like "you and Dan are so married" and simply shrugging it off with a little giggle and a small blush. Dan has said before how he feels like he can share more with the audience and I bet Phil feels the same as well.
This is not a "new" dan and phil they are the same people except they don't let fear or perceptions of them, or how the fans will see certain things, guide their actions anymore. Phil is very tactile so if he wants to poke Dan's cheek or pat his arm or touch his hair he will. If Dan wants to feed Phil food because it's just natural for them then they will. If they want to be more open with their relationship then why can't they? Oh yeah it's because people will dismiss it as fan service. If you watch Rose and Rosie is them kissing on camera and sharing small details of their sex life considered fan service? Is Zoe and Alfie ending vlogs cuddled in bed together considered fan service? No I wouldn't say so because that's just their relationship. But how come as soon as Dan and Phil do it is now just them exploiting their ship for views?

Edit: After re-reading this I sound quite harsh but Tumblr is a dumping ground for making you upset about certain things and this has been a hot topic lately. To clarify: Do I like Dan and Phil's constant flirting? Yes give it all to me. Do I think that Dan and Phil have a discussion beforehand advising each other to touch more and sit as close as possible and do things fans will like? No

Two videos in a day and I'm feeling blessed.

The #spon was super cute, I love Japanese food and anime and British culture so I was all about it, they looked SO good and wow phil getting Dan a schoolgirl outfit and Dan actually wearing it on camera? Wow.

They might have not shown taking a bite from the same thing but it's clearly implied so idk why people are complaining.
the feeding each other part :garbage: I feel something that is overlooked is that I think Dan thought Phil would back out of that and it's why he looks so fond and happy but Phil's face?? Why is no one talking about it, it really looks like he's about to refuse but then he does and the small expression that he has, like he's fondly rolling his eyes at himself, knowing exactly how fucking couply this looks!!

And then helpful bf friend with the ramune holding, loved it, I love their hands I'm weird like that.

gaming video: I liked it, it made me snort as some points and I already knew it was going to be bad. I feel like food really motivates them somehow lmao Phil keeps being incredible and I really liked Dan's energy today too, like he was his nice amount of #extra and tbh I would react like that If I was forced to eat either skunk spray or licorice. Nope.

I like the idea of them throwing a business party, for some reason I'd love to see video Orr pictures because while I can imagine them being guests I can't really picture them as the hosts? Like business owners party hosts? I need that in my life.

I wish I could say more but I can barely keep up with the content especially while I'm still in London (and weirdly hoping to spot them but know it's hopeless since I'm leaving tomorrow :/ )
Will probably never be over the BONCAS and the beauty of Phil Lester.

Today's videos felt amazing for me :thumb:

AP vid: I didn't expect DITL (I was already mourning it but not that much because the dogs vid already felt like one for me) so the video was such fun, I also felt like it was much more natural than other food videos they've made in the past, and I didn't mind the editing out the actual sharing of food/straws and the like, it just made me feel even more like the video was filmed in a relaxed and much less scripted vibe, but idk, it's just a feeling I got from that (where in the patronus think/feel/sense I'd definitively would've picked sense because that's the thing that always trumps any other observations I have and sways my opinion), so in all I felt very content with the whole thing

Gaming vid: had a great laugh with this one, barely paid any attention to the game but the bants were fun and I somewhat strangely enjoy seeing them suffer with the bad-tasting beans, also left feeling quite fond of them but that's always

also some late reactions because I've been busy and binged a lot of videos I missed today:
last live overcooked: didn't feel the tense vibe people felt, idk if it's because I watched it without knowing how people reacted to the video. Also, I might complain about it when I feel annoyed but something or other but I never truly feel annoyed by dan's screaming, idk if I have shitty headphones? and this video wasn't different

pjs vid: now that was quite fun to watch, also some really interesting reactions that people already talked about, finished watching wishing they had filmed at least another round.

patronus: that was fun, I feel like I got even more material to think about than the houses video because of the time limit, I think they stopped too long to think about the answers in that one and it might have swayed some of their choices, I believe that when you go with your instincts it says more about your personality while something like the houses one where you stop to think might say more about your morals and views and how you choose to present yourself (specially in their case, not doing it alone and knowing lots of people would see their choices) idk if I'm expressing myself well enough

idk if I'm too chill and don't represent any percentage of the phandom but I never mind self spoon videos and normal spoon videos are only annoying when the content that goes with it isn't up to par with their usual videos, so I only get mildly annoyed when they have a ad that's either really forced or like that dragons game one but I'm still  about it because the bants make up for some

British vs Japanese school lunch video opinions: I liked it! Mildly baffled as to how people are interpreting Phil as deliberately editing out shots which show they shared food/drink, as I interpreted it the exact opposite way. Not to invalidate anyone's feelings about the video or anything, but it stood out to me that a) it was obvious they were sharing food and b) they weren't making a big deal out of it. I mean, they literally left in shots of Phil finishing the sushi that Dan started, so I feel like they weren't trying to hide it.

It was a really nice video, they both seemed to be in a pleasant mood, I enjoyed them reminiscing over their Japan holiday, and while it wasn't a ditl (I've given up all hopes for a 2017 ditl rip) it was still a great watch in my opinion.

Higher or Lower opinions: V enjoyable!! The gameplay (if you can really call it a game?) was a mess, but I thought this was an example of Dan's snarkiness really adding to the humour of the video, and I thought their interactions were all quite natural. I was stupidly entertained by how handsy they got with each other when Phil was trying to wrangle the mouse from Dan, and I love that Dan made Phil swap jelly beans with him only to end up with the gross flavour anyway. 8/10!!

Loved the gaming video today! It was a little all over the place since they couldn’t decide what method to use first but I enjoyed it nonetheless!

I have nothing interesting to contribute, I’m drowning in content and can’t keep up. Couldn’t be happier tbh :love2:

I have nothing to contribute either, I just wanted to say thank you for writing out my feelings so accurately. How did I get to this point in my life where two grown men that don't even know I exist make me so damn emotional all the time??? And why is Phil so gorgeous? And Dan too? Ahhhh

Kind of unrelated, but I just impulse bought a ticket to TIIT as a christmas present to myself. I wasn't going to go, as none of my friends are Dan and Phil fans, and I felt weird going by myself and being in my mid-20s. But I checked the website just for shits and grins and there was one seat open in the third row after the VIP section, and it was just too good for me to pass up. It still hasn't really sunk in that I'm actually going to see deppy in real life :faint: If anyone is going to the St. Louis show, maybe we can say hi!

Question about the tour below, I didn't want to take up too much space talking about it since it's not a current topic
I think I remember Dan saying something about audience participation being a thing, but only if the person wanted to? Can someone confirm this or tell me if I imagined it? lol
Normally I would never volunteer myself for that, but I think deppy will be an exception :-D

My daughter and I are going to the St. Louis show. You’re the first I’ve seen on here that’s going. We can private message if you want.

Dan after the cancer question
Image

For real though, I couldn't watch the ending. The recent Overcooked livestream, the Impossible Quiz episode where Dan walks out, Markiplier throwing furniture over losing a game - I can't do it. Maybe I am just a damaged divorce child but I absolutely can't stand people being angry like that. It makes me so uncomfortable I can't watch it. I want my escapism peaceful and wholesome, please.

I get where you’re coming from but it doesn’t come across as angry to me. Phil is laughing the whole time and Dan just seems exasperated rather than angry.

I don't have much to add that hasn't already been said about the recent videos but the talk about Dan screaming made me realize that I can share some shortcuts that maybe not everybody know. Sorry if this is old news.
If you watch yt on desktop you can press J to rewind 10 seconds to rewatch those cute moments, L to go forward 10 seconds and K to pause. K will always pause, unlike spacebar that will sometimes scroll down. Press M for mute when Dan gets too loud. Arrows right and left will rewind/forward 5 secs, up and down controll volume. You might have to click on the video once to be able to use the arrows.

On mobile, you can double tap on the left side of the video to rewind 10 sec, triple tap for 20 sec and so on. Right side to go forward.

As someone who watches yt a lot, this has really improved my viewing experience!

hi, i am also drowning in content and loving it

it's for that reason i feel guilty isolating one moment to do with their relationship when there were so many nice moments that had nothing to do with that, from both videos today. (spon was relaxed and actually interesting, i liked seeing the different foods and learning about bento boxes, bean boozled is funny to me, they were both the best version of themselves).
however:

yes! i'm not sure he expected phil to just go with it, either. i'm annoyed at them for jumpcutting that so severely, i wanted to see phil complete that smile while chewing cause they looked so sweet in that moment. like i couldn't even get a good screencap with it slowed down, thats how much they chopped it.

lol.

for you hand fetishists.

^ dan's smile here after phil agreed to swap with him reminded me of the smile in the other video, actually.

LtrllySusan it's funny you say that because I cannot watch the end of the last (I think?) impossible quiz video where dan gets legitimately angry and gets up on the chair and like, speaks through his clenched teeth (also because of a parent/childhood). so i feel for you on the unexpected trigger thing. if it helps at all, the walking out was very staged and light hearted, he clearly was not angry at all and i think needed an excuse to get up and go get some water because of the taste of the jellybean more than anything.

I don't understand them, it was so pointless and then they go and feed each other. Like it's okay to manufacture these moments to us but hey let's delete everything natural.
I wanted to respond to this yesterday. I agree it isn’t a big deal to share food with friends (someone please tell this to my husband who doesn’t like to share) and we’ve seen them do this casually in the past as well as clear deliberate fan service moments. We know these disgusting boys have no concept of germs between them. So it did feel a bit odd to cut somethings, but play up the two chop stick moments, using it as a thumbnail and of course knowing it would be giffed. I think some of this has to do with feeling in control of what they show us. There are moments that are meant to be cute and then there is just eating (and I do also agree with dizzy that it is just logical to cut the chewing out first).
liola wrote: Tue Dec 12, 2017 3:20 am They might have not shown taking a bite from the same thing but it's clearly implied so idk why people are complaining.
I’d just like to clarify that I’m not complaining, upset, or disappointed in the editing, I think it worked well. I just noticed that it was different from the past (particularly the Japan Haul video) and was trying to process it. I think some of it had to do with the length of the video and that it was a spon. It also felt like a more official AP video than Japan Haul did, which was just post holiday cuteness filmed on their futon.
LurkingTrash wrote: Tue Dec 12, 2017 5:12 am I also felt like it was much more natural than other food videos they've made in the past, and I didn't mind the editing out the actual sharing of food/straws and the like, it just made me feel even more like the video was filmed in a relaxed and much less scripted vibe, but idk, it's just a feeling I got from that (where in the patronus think/feel/sense I'd definitively would've picked sense because that's the thing that always trumps any other observations I have and sways my opinion), so in all I felt very content with the whole thing.
I agree, it didn’t feel as fan servicey as some feeding moments in the past. Dan didn’t give a knowing creepy look to the camera and that’s good.

I’m mainly comparing it to my memory of the Japan Haul video where Phil fed Dan the piece of tea cake he had already bitten off of (though Dan does act like he’s resigned to this) and it is clear they took a bite from the same spot of the Tokyo Banana sponge cake (conjuring Manchester Twinkie memories). I was mainly comparing this to the rectangle egg roll where they bit into opposite ends and each stopped at the middle seaweed line (which is fine, I’m not saying that was intentional, it was probably the natural thing to do).

Going back to watch the Japan Haul video, I remembered that even that edited out Phil popping a cola cube in Dan’s mouth with a tooth pick, but included him chewing it (there is also a little psych moment where it looks like Phil is going to feed Dan, but he puts it into his own mouth first). So

This is all to say, sorry I made a big deal out of it. When I started watching the video I thought they weren’t going to show any food sharing/feeding (again I didn’t pay attention to the thumbnail) and that perhaps this was a choice that they made (as there was none in this Halloween Baking) so I was just curious about what we did and didn’t see. In the end I think they found a nice balance and the editing worked just fine.

Higher or Lower was alright. It had cute and funny moments. I did go back to watch older Bean Boozled and jelly bean roulette videos (they did use Bertie Botts once).

Did anyone notice this in the description of the gaming video?
Phil would like to apologise for making Dan play this. Also apparently Jacksepticeye did this is in October so I don't know how Phil still thought this would be a good idea?? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBEPH...
The first sentence seems to be written by Phil and the second by Dan. Unless Dan is apologizing for Phil... to himself... publically. Or Phil is writing in the third person and questioning his own judgement? Either way it’s a bit odd, but I’m going to go with Dan writing the whole thing as he was also the one to promote the video saying he walked out. Him apologizing for Phil isn’t unprecedented.

Re: saying something. I was thinking about this yesterday, and tbh the more I thought about it the worse I felt for them. Unlike zalfie and rose and Rosie, Dan and Phil aren’t really vloggers, other than some of their ditl videos (tear) and mayybe some very early videos, both of their channels are more humor than anything. As such, they never really posted anything overly personal, everything was scripted, filmed and edited in a way that would make people laugh. Not to say they weren’t genuine or never share anything, but it’s just significantly less than vloggers. I think a lot of what I see with vloggers is pressure to present what you think the audience will want to see, which is normal for any big YouTube, but if what you’re showing is your real life, that makes things a lot harder, and aplifies the audience anger and your feelings of guilt if you don’t tell them something important. Dan and Phil aren’t vloggers, but I think they still face some of this, especially given their pre-tatinof personas (on their gaming channel in particular) that they had to determine how they wanted to present their friendship to their viewers.

I don’t know how to explain what I’m thinking so that it makes sense - they aren’t vloggers, they’re entertainers, however, they still portray their real selves, and their audience expects them to be totally authentic and share their lives. When they post anything, it’s a performance in a way, and when your a duo like dan and Phil, I can’t imaging how that wouldn’t bleed into your personal life a bit, when you ARE bffs, you should be able to just be yourself on camera, right? But obviously, romantic relationship aside, there’s bound to be aspects of their friendship that they don’t want on camera, so there’s bound to be a weird, fuzzy line between their irl friendship and what they portray online. I think that’s why they leaned on their personas for so long, it helped to prevent them from going anywhere too personal.

I imagine it would be even worse with a romantic relationship, especially with thousands of shippers ready to coo over their every movement. (That’s me, hi) It seems like applying the same sort of lines they had/have on their irl vs online friendship to a romantic relationship would be even more complicated and potentially hurtful. There would be more scrutiny, more speculation, and more things to keep hidden (can’t imagine them sharing very much with us, even if they were out) which could potentially cause their audience to be upset that they’re not being told certain things, them to have to determine what they want to be shared, just a whole new level of access their audience to their most personal lives.

All that said, I do think authenticity is important to them, especially Dan, and they do now seem to want to share personal parts of themselves with the internet. (depression video comes to mind). They are so so obviously more relaxed and happier together now that they don’t seem to care as much about filtering themselves or presenting their relationship a certain way. Right now, they do seem on a trajectory to keep on easing the line of what they want to show online farther and farther back, so I think it’s totally plausible that they do or say something that leaves little room for doubt sometime post tour.

I agree with another poster who said that Dan being dramatic worked well for this video.

I'm really excited for the premiere tonight. I'm a huge Star Wars fan so deppy being there is just icing on the cake. Plus I read that the event is going to be live streamed so that should be fun to watch. :D Also as a side note Tom Daley is going to be there so can he like take a picture with Phil...

I can barely just catch up with all the content, let alone chat about it here, but I have one very important question I feel needs discussion:

Who the fuck made that bento box? Was it Phil and his fumble-y fingers? Did Dan help? Did they buy it pre-made somewhere? I need answers. That shit was so ridiculously cute and clearly took some serious effort.

You're killing me with these screenshots, but this one in particular.... like... are Dan and Phil purposely trying to fuck me up? What is happening? What is that look? Why does Dan's face consistently exude the kind of marital bliss you only see post-wedding-kiss? How does Phil know exactly what to do to get Dan to make that face each and every time? Why are they letting us in on this? Where's the fine print?!

Why does Dan's face consistently exude the kind of marital bliss you only see post-wedding-kiss? How does Phil know exactly what to do to get Dan to make that face each and every time? Why are they letting us in on this? Where's the fine print?!

Ok yes this I was so confused. Because at first I was like where do you buy this it's so cute but they never said in the video. At 11:16 Dan says "did you make all this?" and then Phil says no but then he says you can buy cutters that make all the shapes. It was just slightly confusing...like I doubt Phil could make all this but then like where did it come from?

I assumed he made it all, but maybe he asked a friend to make it all? Or he bought most of it and just put it cutely in the bento, buying the cutters for the carrots and stuff?

Actually, that's my real vote. He bought things like the natto, sushi, cake, and just put them in the cute stuff while also chopping up the veg.

Hi. I'm mostly just a lurker here. But looking at Skylar's picture where Dan leans into Phil, I realised there have been a lot of "lean-in" moments. So many on the gaming channel, the one where Phil asks Dan to sniff him on the radio show, the baking vids, etc etc- My general reaction to a lean in, no matter what the reason, except a kiss I'm involved in, is to jump back. Like no don't come so close to my face unless you're kissing me. And not everyone can like kiss me. So lean in from my best friends also would make me jump back. Just a strange thing that Phil has never jumped back. Dan looks at the camera like he's on The Office, but no sudden jump back either. I find that interesting

I agree if he didn’t buy the whole thing he’d definitely have chopped pre bought things. Then again I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a shop/restaurant in London that does them but Phil didn’t want to promo them (cost, location, not very normal lunch).

Ok I’m seeing pics from other YTers dressed up and at Star Wars so where the fuck are Dan and Phil and what the fuck are they wearing. And now I’ve remembered Dan wearing earrings to the last one so excuse me while I go cry in a corner.
Thanks and have a great day! Oil me
