i have a genuine question for everyone who thinks dan's gay or straight based on what he has implied through the years: what exactly should he has said for you to think that bisexual is the most logical explanation? can bisexuals ever win?
idk it's not that i don't see where you're coming from because his recent comments are mostly about men (i already explained like three times why i think that is so dw I'm not gonna bore you with that again) and i wouldn't be surprised if he was actually gay but to me bisexual still looks like the most logical option
so yeah genuinely curious
(i wrote this entire post without saying 'bi erasure', i'm betraying my brand™)
It's certainly not impossible that he's bi or even that he prefers women. It is notable that the dramatic uptick in his male attraction mentions is matched by a dramatic decrease in female attraction mentions.
The last female attraction mention was
Claire Danes coupled with a Leonardo DiCaprio mention 2 sentences later. That was about 8 months ago. Since then it's been all or almost all male. He also arguably debunked his old crush on Jennifer Lawrence by alluding to it being something the internet blew out of proportion. Don't have the link to back that up as I don't have the archiving prowess of
felucca or
oqua.
In my anecdotal experience as a gay person with gay friends the trend of decreasing heterosexual mentions and increasing gay mentions is very common among gay people coming to terms with themselves or going public.
This isn't to say definitively that Dan's gay or prefers men as that's something only he would know and not for the internet to decide. It's also totally possible he's compensating for his no homo phase by overstating his attraction to men.
Okay, hear me out. I'm going to start off this post by stating that I myself am bisexual, and hate bisexual erasure with the fiery passion of a thousand suns. Also, this is all just my own speculation, based on my experiences with gay friends and the inexplicable, but usually accurate insight given to me by my gaydar.
Disclaimer: I don't presume to think I actually know anything about Dan's sexuality or what he is like when he's not on camera. Speculation.
I agree with everything spider has said about the gradual decrease in female mentions over the years, and I will also argue that his mentions of female attraction have never been high to begin with, except when directly asked, or when he felt like he needed to assure the world of his heterosexuality in 2012.
I've never seen Dan have any sort of sexual chemistry with a woman on camera the way that Phil does. I've also never seen Dan be openly flirty with a woman on camera the way that Phil has been in the past (examples include Charli XCX, Mollie from the Saturdays, Meghan, actually every woman that Phil has ever collaborated with....Phil, you dog

). He tends to take on a gentle and brotherly role with women. This might also have to do with the difference in personality between Dan and Phil, but I find it interesting that Dan doesn't seem to mind being a bit flirty with the guys he's collaborated with (Tyler Oakley, the Harries twins, even Connor Franta...I'm never going to forget that Dan called Connor 'daddy.') The last time I think I ever heard him talk about a woman in a specifically sexual way was in the Mortal Kombat gaming channel video in 2014, where he's talking about that creepy video game character with the four arms. You could chalk this down to the fact that's a feminist and doesn't want to sound offensive by talking about women in an openly sexual way. However, Phil is actually the more non-confrontational person of the duo and yet has no qualms about being a bit cheeky with Hazel or Louise, or talking about how he'd like to rub Cheryl Cole's face on his face.
