Yeah I rang the bell to get notifications but still only sometimes get it. Like the past three videos I never got a notification for and it took hours to show up in my sub box. Like you said previously, if I wasn't following them on twitter I probably wouldn't even know they uploaded. It sucks because I know the views will be low on this video because I'm sure a lot of people will be experiencing this problem and I don't want that to deter deppy from playing this game again or think this was bad video because I've watched it three times since it's been uploaded and it's so funny and definitely one of my favorites. Idk I just feel like youtube picks favorites. Like I don't even have Safiya on notifications, because she has a set schedule, yet I ALWAYS get told when she makes a video. So it kind of sucks that the smaller creators I want notifications for/ people that I really want to watch as soon as they upload, like deppy, Youtube is just like "nah mate"alittledizzy wrote: Fri Mar 02, 2018 4:59 pmI'm so strongly averse to my phone making any demanding noises at me that I have all phone notifications turned off, but I did ~ring the bell for the popup computer notifications and I'm supposed to get email ones. That's interesting that they work for the phone but not the computer, though? I do still get some notifications, like it never misses a Safiya video, just not for deps.fancybum wrote: Fri Mar 02, 2018 4:30 pmI get phone notifs for all the people I’m subbed to (from clicking that damn bell). With D&P vids the notif comes up the second it’s uploaded and before they even tweet it out. Youtube still sucks, no argument there, but have you rung the bell?alittledizzy wrote: Fri Mar 02, 2018 3:41 pm I'm so frustrated that views on this are low. I know this is not a Dan-and-Phil problem, it happens with every youtube channel I follow now - but not only have I not gotten any notifications on either account I'm subbed to them on for it, but it took about an hour and a half for me to show up in my subscriptions box and then it was already halfway down the page.
I don't subscribe to that many youtubers - not compared to a lot of people I know. I can imagine if you've got more than five or ten people you follow that upload in a day unless you're following them all on social media/are in fandom or you're someone that is dedicated enough to scroll back to the last video you watched every single day, you would have no idea that they uploaded anything. This is definitely the time when having a schedule would benefit their views, because casual viewers might at least get in the habit of knowing when to check or get a feel for when a video should be there, but it's also just shitty that youtube keeps breaking things that previously worked.

I was going to wait to post after watching a second time yesterday, but our power kept going out last night (winter storm winds) and I’m glad I watched when it went up instead of waiting for my husband. I think everyone has said everything, but I just wanted to chime in on the Phil’s character’s butt thing. I also find it a significant step in the right direction, not because it implies Dan *wants* to/enjoys seeing Phil’s butt, but because it’s not going out of the way to say he *doesn’t*, like he has so many times before, especially during the Super Amazing Project era (‘fancy some naked hiking?’ ‘not with you’), but also old gaming videos. Maybe they weren’t always meant as a full no-homo, but I never found it funny and it always left me a bit sad. So three cheers for progress. I’m loving the 2018 gaming videos, there may not be many, but they are lovely.

For deps and people I've been subbed to for years, I've noticed that I get phone notifications (I have a samsung, so maybe the fact that I get them on time is because of their affiliation with google?) pretty much the second the video is published, whereas on my laptop (which is a chromebook) and my desktop (a mac), the notifications are so slow. Sometimes I'll get them while I'm in the middle of watching the video, which is incredibly redundant, so sometimes I'll get them on my phone but not on my computers. Oh well, Youtube has been disappointing me ever since they joined with google+ so I don't know why I'm even surprised anymore lol. It's pretty shit that notifications are so scant, and I thought the video would have hit at least 500k by now, considering how trendy Fortnite is currently.

Idk. I liked the video though, yay, that’s my input there![]()
Just to add - I have the iphone app and I didn't get a notification either
Only saw it by accident when I was on youtube a few minutes after they uploaded.

This definitely feels like one that should be hot. It's such a shitty cycle - this would be perfect for trending since it is such a hot game right now - but because people who are subscribed aren't even seeing it promptly, it (most likely) won't get the burst of traction it needs to hit trending.obsessivelymoody wrote: Fri Mar 02, 2018 5:29 pm For deps and people I've been subbed to for years, I've noticed that I get phone notifications (I have a samsung, so maybe the fact that I get them on time is because of their affiliation with google?) pretty much the second the video is published, whereas on my laptop (which is a chromebook) and my desktop (a mac), the notifications are so slow. Oh well. I'm doing my part... watching it hourly, lmao. Every time someone points out something new I end up rewatching the whole thing.
You perfectly summed up what I love about that. It's not that it's like a 'phan' moment - it's just really pleasant to see the lack of something we're all used to bracing ourselves for.autumnhearth wrote: Fri Mar 02, 2018 5:17 pm I was going to wait to post after watching a second time yesterday, but our power kept going out last night (winter storm winds) and I’m glad I watched when it went up instead of waiting for my husband. Also I just love (this doesn't end) phil being a complete noob and making his character dance and being so excited about making a friend at the start
Since the last "will you press the button" video notifications have started working for me on desktop and their videos show up on top of my home page and in the most recent order in my subscriptions feed. I don't know what changed but i had to re-check my subscription settings and re-ding the bell since youtube "un-dingged" it for me for some reason. (wading through and canceling the bs recommendations yt kept showing me every time also helped put what i'm actually interested it on top)

Just popping out of my trash can to say I’m still not recovered from Fortnite. So goood!! I went on a bit of a binge this morning and watched all of the Tumblr tag videos. It got me thinking that I would LOVE to see how they would handle that in this post baking universe. Like a lot of you have been saying, they’re definitely less dramatic with the whole NO HOMO comments. I’m just imaging their reactions to the art/edits now and it gives me all the feels

Just popping in to say I only knew about the video because I have twitter notifications for them too, my iphone notification never came and my desktop one came like 3 hours after I watched the video, I expect my e-mail notifying about the video will arrive sometime today because it's always a day or two late, it did show up fast in my subscriptions tab tho, I've been keeping track and seeing that with some youtubers it might take 30 mins to an hour to show up but with them it was pretty fast for me.
Friendly neighbourhood reminder that everything D&P may do or have done in the past to either directly or indirectly distance specifically only the two of them sexually or romantically from each other isn’t “no homo”ing. That’s not what that term is and using it for everything that could possibly indicate D&P don’t necessarily want everybody to think they fuck each other is IMO a bit offensive at best.
Thanks and have a great day! Oil me

You're right, I'm using the term wrong. It's a quick way to get the point across and I generally trust everyone knows what I mean but it's not actually accurate, and I'll take my time rewording it in the future.fancybum wrote: Fri Mar 02, 2018 6:35 pm Friendly neighbourhood reminder that everything D&P may do or have done in the past to either directly or indirectly distance specifically only the two of them sexually or romantically from each other isn’t “no homo”ing. I do almost always get notifications for their videos on my phone but rarely on my computer for some reason, which is quite annoying. Though I don't think the video would ever trend anyway. Sure, Fortnite is a popular game in the gaming community but I don’t think D&P have a typical gaming audience because they don't have a typical gaming channel. Most gaming channels upload multiple times a week to twice a day and play a lot different games than D&P do or are dedicated to a select few games (such as Minecraft or in this case, Fortnite) and I think most people who are subscribed to DAPG migrated from Dan and Phil's main channels. They've also played games, like Hello Neighbor and Cuphead, that were popular and relevant and did really well on other channels but weren't immediately huge hits for the two of them either.
Edit: this isn't really relevant but the fact that the Poptrashica video has over 900k views and Gamingmas Gold with Friends doesn't even have 700k views appals me. Casual viewers, wyd?

Notifications are definitely broken. I have never rang a bell for anything, yet I get plenty notifications on my S7 from different people every few months.
Last summer I used to get all notifications for DAPG, PDRsan, Sorted Food and some others. A few months ago I used to get all notifications for Simply Nailogical, Threadbanger, vlogbrothers and mugumogu, but sometimes I got them for DAPG/DINOF/AP as well . Currently I only get notifications for MIMEI LAND, Safiya Nygaard and Seventeen. I know I did turn off some of them like PDR because he uploads a lot and it got annoying. But most of them I never touched, I didn't start watching those channels more or less often than before, it just seems like a random mess every few months.
Meanwhile, the sub box has been really slow with updating lately. This also seems to be completely random, sometimes I see a video in there immediately after upload and other times videos from other Creators that were uploaded an hour later than a Depz video would show up before theirs.
For D&P videos I tend to rely on social media or even IDB to tell me about uploads, but the casual majority aren't checking that. It's no wonder that D&P's views are low, their lack of schedule only adds to that. It's too bad the Fortnight video doesn't seem to profiting from any game hype. It's also a bit of a shame D&P aren't better at doing series. People like a good series, it's why The Sims is still so ridiculously popular.
AmazingPhil isn't doing too hot either. Letter To My Younger Self is still stuck at 900k, Drawing My Viewers isn't even close to surpassing 600k. I get that that last video wasn't exactly very interesting but those numbers aren't v impressive imo. I wonder how Dan's views will be when he f i n a l l y uploads... probably fine. One day his time will come though, I don't believe that he can keep his current way of doing things up without suffering losses somehow.

This video did show up in my sub box, though the last two didn’t and that’s the first I’ve ever noticed that after years of hearing of it. I’ve subbed to so many dormant, but interesting, channels, I went over 400 subs a while ago so amongst the active ones goodness knows who I might not be seeing (get about 20 vids a day I guess? I use ‘watch later’ a lot). I haven’t been watching as many people for a while now anyway. I think my iPhone is still giving me the notifs for Deps’ channels, they’re the only ones I’ve dinged, except for Nathan Zed, and I see the notif in youtube too. Off to help the Fortnite vid’s view count a smidge more.

I've got a super old LG and the only notifications i get are the ones of DAPG. YouTube is fucked up.
Hey guys, sorry for bringing something off topic, but do you remember that time when Jon Cozart tweeted asking about D&P history? What happend to that? Do you tink that Jon was tryimg to write a song and the phandom response to that tweet scared him? D&P or someone close (coughCorneliacough) said something to him?
i don't know, what do you think?

That's something YouTube switched on for everyone. If you go to your subscription manager, you'll see that your account has a lot of bells dinged that you never dinged yourself. I am glad that I am not subbed to hundreds of channels, since the only fix I found to not getting unwanted notifs was to go through the channels one by one and switch it from "occasional" to "none".Catallena wrote: Fri Mar 02, 2018 8:37 pm Last summer I used to get all notifications for DAPG, PDRsan, Sorted Food and some others. Maybe you guys should check your settings if your notifs don't work correctly? I am not sure if dinging the bell below a video switches "all" notifications on, or if it just sets it to "occasionally".
A part of me can't see Jon being scared off by fans if he really wanted to do something. But maybe it was brought to his attention by someone else (maybe not even someone directly related to dnp) that it might not be the best idea.kindofatrashcan wrote: Fri Mar 02, 2018 9:12 pm I've got a super old LG and the only notifications i get are the ones of DAPG. I'm pretty sure it was the phandom itself that probably put Jon off the idea. I remember most people saying it was a bad idea. Hank Green even commented saying he wanted Jon to perform his song at Vidcon and I remember people saying that it wasn't a smart move because of how harshly people perceive the phandom to be. Even a couple other youtubers responded basically being like you don't want to go there. So I think if anything he probably realized that there was a potential to receive a large amount of criticism for it.alien wrote: Fri Mar 02, 2018 9:31 pmA part of me can't see Jon being scared off by fans if he really wanted to do something. I'm not the greatest with technology and had no idea there was a page with all that so easily accessible (instead of going channel by channel)
Thank you!
Ohhh so YouTube was just annoying about informing people. Good to know. Though now I see that I did actually ring the bell for DAPG but I still don't always get notifications like yesterdat.
I just undid it and then pressed it again, see if a reset works or something.
Question that comes from me listening to NerdCubeds Patreon podcast on the bus about a week ago.
Dan (as in NerdCubed Dan) was talking about how he was on a trajectory similar to PewDiePies during his first year of YouTube and was essentially playing the YouTube algorithm to grow his channel quickly. He hit 1 million subs fairly quickly, and with a trajectory like that he essentially should have kept rapidly growing. Instead, he's sitting at a very respectable 2.5 million subs. Dan said, and i'm paraphrasing here, that he deliberately throttled his channel growth so that it would never get beyond something that he could control. He could have kept going, but more than anything he didnt want to.
Maybe Dan (as in isnotonfire Dan) is okay with something like this happening to him? And that is why Dans upload schedule is, to put it diplomatically, fabled. I'm assuming that most of their income comes from IRL/DAPG so if Dan isn't arsed about being the biggest YouTuber on the planet, then I can see him not necessarily being bothered about the impact him not uploading videos for example every week on a Friday at 9pm GMT has. (and I'd much rather he upload videos he wants to and is proud of, than any alternative)
I genuinely think this might be the case for both of them tbh. Their videos will get views, they have a fairly comfortable number of subscribers so I'm assuming their YouTube income is predictable. They probably could make their channels into ones that have tens of millions of subscribers but I dont think they want that for themselves? Or i'm interpreting this wrongly, which is likely it's currently 1.30am and I have to leave for work in 50 minutes

I think the reason that Dan got that major boost of subscribers in 2012 was because one of his videos was featured on the home page and it really pushed him forward and it kept him on a steady incline since then. I think that it's definitely stagnated now because of his infrequency. Like back in the day when he was growing he tried posting at least once a week, emphasis on tried, and so it helped him to grow and he also had the radio so he was exposing himself to more and more people but now he posts once a month, maybe, and his subscriber count is not growing. I think Dan is quite lucky that he can now choose when he wants to post and it be something he really wants to make since he has a lot of income coming in from other sources.
I'm actually really curious to see how his new video does since I think the growth of the meme video had a lot to do with the fact that its a series and "internet trendy". Phil's makes since to me because 1) I didn't even get a notification for either of them, and 2) the second video was just a filler video, those tend to not do very well. Youtube is quite messed up and the algorithm favors consistency, something deppy lack, and therefore basically get kind of screwed. Like the reason Safiya is constantly getting views is because she uploads weekly, which Youtube likes, and therefore will always be featured in recommended, which is how I found her, or will hit trending from time to time.

I recently read a theory somewhere that when you're a popular channel who can get away with it, starving your fans so that they will drop everything when you finally do upload can be a legit tactic for getting onto the trending page which equals views. How much of that is true idk but when I read that theory I did think of Dan :') But I do think the algorithm has a bit more depth to it than only loving people who upload multiple times a week.
