tbh yes it is pretty boring but I think it's a lead up to making people pick Dan or Phil for the wheel part, and the wheel part does actually seem hilarious. The survey is at least a fairly short segment.

So in the Wholesome Howell/X-rated Lester part they're trying to prove that they can be their 'opposite' sites - Dan can be good and wholesome, Phil can be bad and x-rated. So to do that they are given a word - for Dan it's a bad word, for Phil it's a good word - and they have to turn it into the opposite. Dan has to explain why something objectively bad can be good, Phil has to explain how something objectively good can be bad. So Dan has to say why falling in a volcano is actually a good thing, Phil has to say why world peace is actually a bad thing. Without having seen the show I can't really figure out what kind of metric they're using to decide who gets a point and who doesn't, though.

As far as body part, I don't think they actually specified his or body parts in general, but he did go on a small rant about why he hates toes too. I am having trouble figuring out how much detail people actually want when I'm writing it out, though. If they reuse some answers (and they have done that a bit, already) I was wary of spoiling every single one-liner. But if it's not making sense without that extra explanation I can add it back in.

Thank you for explaining all of this. I have a better understanding of what I was confused about. For some reason I thought the wholesome howell/x rated lester was literally one word answers and not topics that they elaborated on. I was trying to figure out if it was a word association game or something IDEK. Now it makes a lot more sense though lol.

They probably have used those nicknames in private for a long time, but I recently read back the forum threads from around the start of gamingmas 2016 and people were very excited about Dan saying Philly (I thiiiink it was in Katamari). So at that point it wasn't a common thing. During gamingmas they seemed to relax a bit more in general, maybe because they didn't really have time to figure out if every comment was appropriate and just focused on getting videos out on time.

Having seen the show twice already:

the survey thing is a build up to the wheel of doom and one of them launching things at the other (which is a fantastic part of the show). Personally I find the whole build up too long and it’s basically irrelevant. It would have been more interesting imo to have used things related to dan and phil from the beginning rather than use the “would you save a friend/your phone” and the “do you like crowd participation” questions or just cut them completely, they’re not really interesting and feels a lot like filler.

The other sections you mentioned are quite funny providing the questions they get asked are funny and not just lame/obvious things like houseplants or memes. Mandy already answered this better than I could anyway haha

I'm late to the party and under informed because I don't have time to watch and read things anymore but I would love to make a comment about the dog/baby commitment as someone who has both.

Omg are they a lot of work. I have a husky/Akita mix, a very intelligent hyper dog and I thought that was difficult to raise and train with the help and support of my loving husband. IDk about corgis but Shibes are very intelligent and need a lot of time and attention or they will destroy your apt.
A puppy was apparently nothing compared to my 2 month old daughter. She takes so much time and energy and attention. I love it but it is exhausting and as someone mentioned earlier it is more difficult if you have to count your spoons daily and you run out about two hours after you wake up and then it gets really fun. If you think a tour is hurting your content, you better hope they don't get a child because unless they become daily vloggers regular videos would become scarce.

personally I do think they are going to retire in a way so they can devote their time to pets and family and being semi normal. I feel like they will be twitter/instagram/other social media celebrities and probably do charity work and host shows etc but will stop doing youtube in the way they are doing it now. When they decide to do that is a mystery though. Dan makes relevance jokes all the time and a part of me thinks he believes there will be a time they are no longer well known or popular, oe youtube itself will tank and have been just a fad. Who knows?

I've no idea about Dan calling Phil "Philly"and when that started, but in the 26th April 2015 liveshow Phil calls Dan "Danny" and they had a whole discussion about how Phil doesn't call him that etc. This video has that part of the liveshow plus some early Danny appearances.



In most of those instances above though, Phil seems to use Danny in a jokey, or exaggerated way, not just thrown in as normal conversation like we get now. I noticed the increase of Phil calling Dan "Danny" just because sometime around mid-2017, slowly increasing to the point where it's bound to make an appearance every few videos.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's called him that for years without us knowing though.
