Ugh. We'll likely never know. Ditto the specifics in contracts.
Luke is CF, but Emma is MakerGen, Jack&Dean aren't claimed by anyone (but their new show is involved with FullScreen), and neither is Charlie or Ben. Hmm.
There goes that theory then! Must. Improve. Background. Knowledge...!

Sorry for taking away the #poof emoticon without an explanation! I was going to make a post about it in the emoticon thread but I got sidetracked.

Anyway, basically concerns were raised over the fact that "poof" is a homophobic slur in certain dialects of English. Obviously here we use it to refer to "proof" as a nod to the Kiro56 hilarity, but the use of the term "poof" instead of "proof" is a bit of an inside joke, and if someone didn't read the threads on *another website* from a year ago, they wouldn't understand what it means. We didn't want to offend anyone who isn't aware of the Kiro saga, so until we get a formal FAQ set up where the history of the word's use on GG (and now IDB) is explained, I just thought it was best to disable it for the time being. All the other emoticons are safe, don't worry. :D

And obviously you can still use the term, since it clearly means "proof" when used in context, but when it's floating around as an emoticon the intended meaning is more obscure.

And based on urbandictionary's various definitions, being a furry doesn't automatically mean you want to have sex with an anthropomorphic animal/an animal. So if Dan really was a furry I think he would know that fact and wouldn't have made a joke about rubbing Shiba's all over his naked body to set back the furry community with that stereotype lol.
Your logic make sense but that doesn't meant mine doesn't, I didn't say they want to have sex with animals, I say I don't want to rule out any possibilities, whether they are real furries or not, and if a furry do happen to be sexually attracted to animals, would it be moral for them to own a pet is just a general question I wonder not specify to Dan and Phil.

But let's not dwell on that, human are complicated creatures and Zootopia made all my friends furry.
to be a furry isn't to be sexually attracted to non-human animals, though? that would be an overlap with beastiality, a completely different concept. pretty sure furries just want to be animals. they cannot, thus they enjoy roleplaying as them instead. future pets of Deppy's are (probably) safe. I took Dan's comment to be a joke play on Phil rubbing the toy shiba all over Louise, which could definitely qualify as furry sexuality.

the channel flip thing is really interesting! i was reading you guys discuss the discovery earlier today. i wonder how that will progress. they're generally pretty tight-lipped and professional, except for that one snarky comment from Dan an age ago regarding My Damn Channel, so i'm relying on you sleuths

If I recognized the YTers on the featured ChannelFlip site, I'd check to see who else appears to have left - I only recognize Emma Blackerry (who now appears to be with RPMNetworks) and FunForLouise (but he left a while I ago, I think someone has already mentioned it?) - but yeah, there appears to be people leaving ChannelFlip left and right.
How long has Phil been with ChannelFlip, anyway? Did they sign at the same time or did Phil sign earlier, meaning his contract might be tighter/harder to get out of?

re: the furry conversation - I think for them, if anything, it's like making out with cat whiskers drawn on their faces/with Dan wearing his weird-ass furry hat, more of an inside joke than anything else. :D
(but like, far as the other conversation goes, and I'm still not sure how serious the tone of it is: I've read some kitty!Kurt fic back in my Glee fandom days and my cat is certainly 100% safe. :D :D)

But yes I don't expect info from them, they are professionales and could also be legally bound to not say anything.
From what it seems CF is not considered a company worth working with by some serious youtubers.

Ooh look at this part of TomSka's script for an upcoming vlog about YT money:
(Full post linked in this tweet:)
Now, the last thing I want to talk about in this video is MCNs (multi-channel networks). MCNs are typically management companies who offer logistical support to YouTube channels in exchange for complete control of their ad revenue and usually a percentage of all other income streams. They can be a good thing, they can be a bad thing, it all depends on the company and the contract you sign. They all promise to make you more money than you already are and usually try to play it off that they’re doing so simply because they’re such great, supportive people… If that sounds too good to be true, that’s because it absolutely is. Like any company, they’re in it for the money, so just don’t rush into anything until you have a full understanding of what it is and how you can get out of it. Lawyer up, baby!
And what he said in his weekly vlog (context: he punched a hole in his cupboard):
I've been in the office until 9pm dealing with horrible things related to legal battles and just... stuff that I never really thought I was going to have to sign up for when I got into making YT videos, but as things go on and as things get bigger, things get complicated and relationships get complicated and things just get weird. And you know... you punch holes in things, and you lose your temper and... you regret a whole lot of stuff.
"and usually a percentage of all other income streams"?? :o

'All other income' relating to YT (like spons) or literally all other income streams? How would that make sense? If everybody is jumping ship (lol 'everybody' meaning Dan & Tom at this point - when did PJ leave?), they must not be a great network to be involved with, or else they (bigger YTers) just outgrew what CF could do for them... I want to know what's happening behind the scenes!

Listen, I don't understand business, so prepare for ignorant speculating: but could Internet Takeover ending have anything to do with any of this? Like if D&P are looking to sever ties with old management, then ending a contract that maybe they're still involved with (the radio show) to cut them off would make sense. Then when everything is settled (like when Phil also severs ties), D&P could re-sign with R1 for a new show or whatever without other people getting their grubby undeserving hands all over their paychecks.

Or not? Probably not. I like conspiracy theories, sorry.
Yes, as Tom said MCN take a percentage of all your ad revenue, I remember not so long a go there was some drama going on in the gaming community about MCN take as high as 60% of a youtubers ad revenue. Some other income I would assume they mean any other activities they do that related to their youtube channel for example if a youtuber goes on a talk show to promote his youtube red series. Mostly MCN does is to help a channel grown and give them opportunities about their channel. For example helping a new youtuber developing strategies, boosting their visibility and help them improve the quality of their content. But what Tom does with the BBC 3 and Deppy does with R1 and book deal are more likely to be with flipside.

But according to the news that flipside was launched in September 2014, and Deppy joined channelflip more likely to be late 2012 or early 2013, so I'm not really sure how much they have to do with deppy's R1 business.

According to CF's financial report they made almost 500k loss in year 2014, they used to have Jack & Dean, PJ, Emma, Chris with them, and they had 8 million up channels (Ashens, DINOF, DINI, AP, DAPG, Tomska and Emma), now they only have 2 (Ashens and AP), I doubt they will take down Dan's photo down immediately, they probably will keep the photos up there as long as possible.

Yes to a live show today, I don't even care what time it is, unless I'm sleeping at the time, then I care. Some selfies would also be very welcome, I want one of Phil, but even better would be one of the both of them.

Re Dan still being on the CF website, I think they just haven't updated it in a while. Their Phil bio says "Phil also co-hosts a regular show on BBC Radio 1 with fellow YouTuber Danisnotonfire as their first YouTube signing", which sounds like it's referring to the show specifically rather than Internet Takeover. And there's nothing about radio on Luke's bio.

Few points on Dan being under his own network and leaving ChannelFlip:

1. Phil probably joined first or/and did not read well into the terms and conditions of the contract. I'm not sure about this, it might have been the second point, Dan being the biggest youtuber, that played the role of Dan getting his way and Phil sticking to a more standardised contract.
2. Dan being the biggest youtuber within that network probably had his last say on what the contract says. "You don't do this - I'm not joining". I wouldn't be surprised that it was the reason why Dan left and Phil is staying until the contract is probably up.
3. DanandPhilGAMES are under Dan because... money. As Dan left the network and Phil stayed, Dan claimed their gaming channel as his own intellectual property, so the gaming channel automatically went with Dan. More money in their pockets - no money for ChannelFlip  . That's why it's under Dan himself - Phil is not "officially" involved, ChannelFlip can't do $hit about it.

That makes sense. So Phil will definitely move when his contract ends. Sad part is that they never talk about this so we woukd never know exactly what is happening. But thanks to Tomska for the info

Of course he will. It will be interesting to see how it all ends up. Will they keep their private channels under their own companies, or will they move everything they have to Dan and Phil productions ltd. Probably, the gaming channel will move to D&P productions and they will keep their private entities to themselves

If we presume dan and Tom are dealing with the same issues with ChannelFlip, it might be one of the reasons Dan had to stay longer than Phil in England and also why he seemed unsure when exactly he was leaving the country (or at least he made it seem like it in his last ls), maybe?

I understand very little in legal / business matters (ashamed to be business school graduate oh well I'll blame it on international differences), but could these changes with network mean that Dan and Phil are planning to move temporary work in the US, using danhowell ltd ? Maybe launch their tour video/dvd/thing partly from there? Felix's network Revelmode as I understood was founded as a co-partnership with Disney’s Maker Studios (based in USA). So maybe have to be independent from CF (not being signed as their creators) to make that kind of partnership with them (or other agency/network) to launch the dvd thing. Sorry if I'm not making any sense. :|

I doubt that Dan has more say than Phil, cuz you know the "buy one get one" thing, plus Phil takes more spon, which means he doesn't necessarily make less money for channelflip. But I guess this is tour time and they don't want to be involved in this legal shit?

So i'm more inclined to think Dan's contract was up and he didn't renew it and Phil's not up yet. Also DAPG went with Dan indicates more than possible that Phil will be leaving channelflip in the future.

Your avatar makes everything your said so sophisticated and bad ass. cheers to that.

As viewers and fans we see them as "buy one get one free", but in reality they still have their separate brands and it seems that they're not going to merge them anytime soon (or ever). It's kinda interesting, they together are a brand, then they separately are also two different brands. Brands within a brand (or vice-versa), haha. Phanception!
Money-wise they're probably making similar amounts, but popularity-wise Dan definitely is more popular and more desired when it comes to collabs, sponsored videos etc.
Of course, it's only my opinion, there might be other factors like one of them being a better negotiator than the other or Phil's contract simply still not up (or it's up, but he's too busy with the tour to sort everything out and claim his channel under his own name).

Thanks, a bottle of Stolichnaya makes everything look sophisticated

I definitely think this could be a possibility, was even thinking this myself.

I hope that he isn't involved in any legal stuff, because that is not fun and those boys do not need more added pressure right now. I hope his contract was just up, and he didn't sign a new one, but it could be that he is going through the same thing as Tomska.
At times like these I really wish that would share more with us.

If there is some bad blood between channelflip and youtubers, it has to be recent, because flipside is connected to channelflip (don't ask me in what way, i have no idea). And i don't think would have signed with flipside if they had already had problems with channelflip.
And if they joined CF late 2012, early 2013, then they must have deliberately renewed their relationship at some point. Unless they had a three (!) year contract and i can't imagine them being stupd enough to sign that. They weren't noobs in 2012/2013.

And i thought the legal issues Tom had were related to eddsworld. Would trouble with CF feel personal enough to flip out and punch a whole in a wall/door? I guess if he was friends with people at CF that could be possible.

I kind of want to see some drama go down (because have been a bit boring in that field ngl), but i don't think it's that dramatic.

The theory that CF wanted more money from their talents after making a loss in 2014 and some youtubers leaving because of that sounds very realistic.

On the "age" topic: The circumstances of how they met read very dodgy imo. The fact is that Dan was an 18 year old boy who just finished school and was in a gap year, not sure what to do with his life (and from tabinof we know he wasn't particularly self efficient yet, remember the grocery store freak out? And that was even later).
Phil was 22(?) and had a uni degree, had lived away from home, had already gone through that first seperation from your parents that makes you a lot more independent and had a large (at the time) youtube following that Dan clearly admired.
And they get friendly and flirty in social media and Phil invites Dan to his house for several nights when his parents are gone.
There's nothing you can say that makes this sound less dodgy in my mind. Even the argument that they skyped a lot before kind of turns into more dodgy details when you see that picture of them skyping where Dan has his hand under his shirt.

The only reason i don't side-eye Phil is their relationship today. Dan seems like a self aware person who thinks a lot about their issues and where they come from and i think if their relationship had been questionable in the past he would realize that now and probably resent Phil. And i can't imagine them working together in that case.
As it is, i think the power difference was never a big deal in their relationship and Phil might have been careful to make sure Dan didn't feel inferior or intimidated.
(And if we assume they are together, and voldy is real (shudder) then that would be proof for me that there was no problem with power. Dan was even the first to kiss Phil.)

EDIT:

When he talked about not being sure when he'll leave i thought he knew exactly and just didn't want to let anything on for stalkers. He was talking about not doing a ls the next week, i assume because he had to pack for his departure the next day (or am i misremembering when he left?), and suddenly was flustered and sounded like he had almost said something he shouldn't - like his departure time.

*raises hand* as your local actual furry i'd like to shed some light on what the subculture actually means as all this bestiality talk is a bit concerning - there seems to be a huge misunderstanding here

'furry' is an umbrella term, it can mean anything from wanting to wear a fursuit (completely non-sexually too ! some people just like animals), believing you were an animal in a past life and therefore feeling a strong connection to them (ex. a dog or fox or lion even !), or even just enjoying content w/anthropomorphic characters (ex. sonic the hedgehog, animaniacs, zootopia)

the word 'furry' also is used to describe an animal that is anthropomorphic and also extends to like anime catgirls or humans w/animal features (yes, garfield is a furry and so is tony the tiger)

i am in the category of just really loving animals and by extension media w/anthro characters which by the way doesn't even mean animals that are upright and talking - an animal just has to take on human characteristics to be considered anthropomorphic !

so it doesn't really have anything to do with sexuality thats completely irrelevant and yes it does overlap for some people but its usually that they find the human characteristics in an animal sexually appealing so really, there is no need to discuss whether someone's going to yiff their dog or if they shouldn't be allowed to have a dog if they're a furry - thats a bit offensive in itself to even consider honestly

but yeah i hope this helped ?? being a furry just means you like animals that talk for a lot of people or that you simply just had a crush on fox mccloud or something no need for concern !
