FlipSide was established on September 18 in 2014. Dan and Phil became their talents the same day. The next day in the article about FlipSide managing director said:"In the future, we expect to sign both network partners and non-network partners to FlipSide"

wtfamidoinghere and jaej i think you raise excellent points - no one here is necessarily saying that phil was creepy/deppy's early relationship was unhealthy/etc. but we have to look at the facts - an 18 year old just out of school travelling hundreds of miles to meet up with a successful youtuber four years older than him while his parents weren't there

i'm someone who's incredibly jealous of the relationship dan and phil have (or that i perceive them to have) and am very glad they met but i still recognise that there's a lot wrong with the way they first met - i think it's important to not try to justify or wave away the slightly dodgy aspects of how they met, because of the influence it could have on vulnerable young people in a similar situation today (where maybe it won't work out so well)

just to reiterate, i am not necessarily saying that phil was creepy/abusive/manipulative, just that the circumstances of their early interactions shouldn't be defended imo

I saw that, it's actually probably more like 20 hours if you consider bathroom/fuel breaks and all that, so I looked up flights and they might fly to Vegas the morning of his birthday and spend the day there while the bus drives without them? It's a pretty short flight and it'd be a bit of a shitty way to spend his birthday otherwise..

See, what you're doing there is assuming that they won't fly ahead of the bus on the longer stretches and have days off instead of being trapped on a bus... ;)

If I were them, that is what I would do. Sounds a lot better. And even if it's not something they will do often, they certainly should do it for Dan's birthday.

I made a spreadsheet comparing the size of the US tour compared to the UK tour. (I didn't have the names of the UK venues and couldn't look up seating capacity. If someone wants to PM me the information, I'll update the spreadsheets).

It compares the # of shows, # of days touring, and # miles they will drive.

I've been thinking about how ambitious (to say the least!) this tour is going to be, but seeing those numbers laid out is absolutely terrifying, especially for relative homebodies like these two. Traveling is exhausting as fuck (I just drove 2,200 miles in three days... after 2.5 days at home I'm still feeling the physical effects), let alone meeting a hundredish people a nite/performing a stage show. Hopefully they won't be actual zombies by the time they reach us here in California at the end of the tour. I'm guessing they're trying to keep costs on the lower side, so the faster they blow through, the less they have to spend on hotels/living expenses for themselves/their crew... but they're gonna be feeling the fatigue after a week or so. I'm so curious how big their crew is (they could keep the number of traveling crew pretty low & just enlist local crews to set up/break down)/how much they're hauling with them. Even if they have a decent size crew/set, they're still walking away from this pretty flush between tickets + merchandise.

Thanks for the spreadsheet nerd work & getting my mind spinning again.

I think they both realize now that their first meeting looked a bit dodgy which is why they try to avoid talking about it.
There were things that they did right though. Firstly, Dan may have been only just out of high school but he WAS an adult. They met in a public place, i.e. the train station, and spent a lot of time walking around Manchester together in public before going to Phil's house. Dan had lots of time to back out if he felt he needed to. Also, whilst Dan kept the meeting a secret from his parents, He and Phil both posted several excited tweets about their meeting in the days leading up to it so it's not like it was some furtive, secret thing; lots of people knew where Dan was and who he was with.
As to their skype sessions, Phil posted several screen-caps from skype to social media, and tweeted about long skype calls so clearly he didn't think there was anything wrong with their interactions at that point.
I really can't see Phil as a predator, I think he was just immature and a bit naive and didn't think about how interactions with younger friends could be perceived.

I don't think they will do all the travel by bus, some longer drives i imagine will be done by air.

You know, when they first announce the US tour, I legitly think they will travel through flights and thought the bus is just a methaphor of a vehicle. Count me in the team that cannot fathom how they will not sick of each other during the whole thing.

Quick question, how expensive is the flight tickets if you are flying across the states, compared to flying across europe? (comparing to europe because that's what I am familiar with) Does deppy travel using bus because it's cheaper plus the crew and equipment need to travel too anyway? I am still thinking they are mad trying to pull this off.

My 18 month old Niece know who they are. Dan Dan Dan (even though she is pointing at Phil) we have brainwashed her and she goes crazy at even a picture of them and when they come on the telly, it is even worse

So true! Phil is Dan's boy (and Dan is Phil's) Image

Yeah, surely they'll at least fly to Vegas. That's a nineteen hour drive and on the day of Dan's birthday. Even if they left Austin by midnight and drove through the night if he stayed on the bus they still probably wouldn't make it to Las Vegas until late afternoon the day of his birthday.

I wonder, they probably used to each other, if they annoyed of each other they will probably just go to different corners, what concerns me the most is they share the bus with Martyn and Cornelia, which might be awkward.

Ouch. I couldn't do that. Sleep night before the flight, as much as poss, given I don't do flying good...! then stay up til bedtime in FL, yes.
But yay for the extended fam all being together now.

Same solution applies. If the worst comes to the worst, disappear into a corner/bunk, draw the curtain and put your headphones in.
I don't envision there being much upset, tbh. Cabin fever maybe but I've spent the overwhelming majority of the past 3 1/2 months in the same 12'sq-ish room, and I'm surviving and mostly keeping sane(!) so you're just going to have to excuse me for the lack of sympathy...! but none of the legs are insurmountably long, and with breaks/stops etc...
