Yeah, I would have liked to have seen some architectural photos from them, but it seems that is not going to happen. Apparently a fan who met them today said that Phil confirmed he is also on a social media break. Now up until now I haven’t really cared to speculate as I think that stepping away from social media is a healthy thing to do every once and awhile. I’ve just rolled my eyes at everyone guessing it has to do with being Russia, but now I’m wondering... obviously they chose to go to Moscow for their fans there, but perhaps they don’t want to promote the country through their social media either because of their personal morals or because they just don’t want to deal with any potential backlash/criticism from their larger fanbase. Basically just avoiding confrontation (but not from the Russian authorities or whatever nonsense people were worrying about). Or you know, they may just genuinely want a break.

I’ll tell you what I’m pretty sure they’re *not* doing: I don’t think they are filming a DITL there. Though I have been wondering where they might do that on tour and my bet is on Manila.

They do look very relaxed, which I'm glad and I hope it helps quiet down the worried side of phandom. However at this point I do wonder why this planned social media stop? I didn't really think it was because of Russia but it seems weird indeed.

Edit: to clarify my post, I don't mean in that they're not posting for anti lgbtq+ laws in Russia or anything like that, I just mean that it does seem like they specifically planned it for when they were there. It might as well be that they needed a break and this 2 days break is just convenient and in a beautiful place they've never been, it just seems scheduled for some reason. I didn't really have a strong opinion either way but now that Phil has sent a random scheduled tweet that is kind of his own way of announcing he's not on social media I think they are trying to say something without actually saying it....

I'm thinking maybe they're using an old phone to take pictures with fans if they want to post some highlights from the tour and not have those pics mixed up with their personal ones? I have no clue, I wouldn't be able to recognize one iPhone from the other, they all look the same for me after the iPhone 3 tbh :mrgreen:

That's actually quite weird. If they wanted service the easiest way is to buy a russian sim card. The only thing I can think is that maybe it's not compatible with the newer iPhones

Sometimes the US is also included or they may get a US phone plan but for a few days in Russia why not go dark?
As to the other phones they could just be using them as cameras, they may have international phone plans, who knows? I know a lot of celebrities who are US and UK based seem to have two phones because switching would become a pain.

I watched the Sims for the third time today, this time with the kid and while I still noticed an uptick in restlessness with Phil at the very end, I think it begins when they are finished with the renovation and Dan asks if they should invite Evan over. Phil still gets excited about a few things, but for the most part it seems like he’s power through the end of a long work day. Not saying he wasn’t in to it, just that he’s tired, a bit sore from sitting, maybe hungry. They filmed at least one other gaming video that day (DragonCity). Thanks for the timestamps dizzy!

It's an advertising feature on twitter mostly for business accounts, you can choose to schedule posts as promoted/sponsored tweets or just organic. It's a way for business accounts and social media to plan their posting schedule as a way to increase the use of advertising on twitter. I don't know how it works for verified accounts but it was rolled out for normal accounts around the same time as analytics i think, you just need a credit card

Oh, that makes sense! I was already thinking something like "Maybe I'm dumb but I don't get why their social media break would have anything to do with them being in Russia?". How would posting a picture of the Red Square or filming a short video of themselves in their hotel put them in any kind of danger or vulnerable spot or "promote" homophobia?

Can the border agents ask for your phone when you enter the country? I'm a lucky European so I don't deal with those things a lot, but I remember reading that US agents can ask to see what you have on your phone. If they have something on there that could be considered problematic (either in regards to LGBTQ or something completely else?), I can see why they would opt to leave all their files & accounts at home.

definitely seems like cyber security is the reason for the social media break and the old phones. i don't doubt that they maybe thought a detox would be good anyway, but this seems to be a big factor. interesting that dan did the whole 'for no reason at all', akin to the bahamas tweet last year. glad you mentioned it @sparkle cause i'd been thinking the same thing. but what i'm saying is i wonder why dan was so vague about it instead of just being up front.

OT: This is really OT, but I was with my friend last week when she bought a new phone, and we asked offers for new phone plans from 3 places. Every single time the seller asked "so, are you travelling somewhere this summer?". I guess they were getting ready to tell about EU roaming, and after my friend answered, "yes, to Russia", all of their faces dropped. It was kind of funny.

Also, as someone who's going to Russia this summer, I fully plan to take my phone with me. I'll use wifi whenever possible. Sounds really weird to me that they would take your phone away? It's 2018.
