I wouldn’t call Phil bitchy for saying things like that, just ‘I’ll keep control of my own head, thank you’. He was lovely at VidCon, he was a little ‘embarrassed’ about all the cheering when he arrived for the panel, I guess cos he doesn’t want to look arrogant, at one point he said ‘my head won’t fit through the door’ after all the achievements we’re listed in the podcast (turns out creator track was allowed in, the tags on the listing just hadn’t been updated when they changed the time). Science show part was hilarious of course and even without being the presenter, he kept up enough of his own commentary to be interesting and funny. It’s also lovely seeing him in all his 6’2” glory, and the blue jacket went well with his ginger hair, he’s a gorgeous big lug.

i just got a chance watch the liveshow so this is a painfully late response, but i kinda wanna bring this moment back (it starts at 17:18 in phil's recording for anyone who wants to play it back)

phil was SO feisty in a way we so rarely see: "'please don't'... i mean, i'll do what i want with my hair, to be honest." like, damn. damn.

not to get too deep, but... heh. i will.

this feels like the kinda shit that just sorta bubbles over when you've spent months reading (or watching your boyfriend read) fan tirades about what they think you should or shouldn't do with your life/career/etc. and the opportunity to just bite back a little... even if it's just about going blonde? probs felt good to phil.

I think bitchy is being used as a compliment here! Remember when the fandom not-as-fondly referred to him as a robot? This is a guy that's definitely dealt with anxiety, and social anxiety, for a really long time. He was a chronic compartmentalizer of feelings and annoyance/strong opinions/irritation were not available to us, the audience. To see this kind of sass and sharpness feels like a glimpse of the real Phil, the guy that has thoughts and opinions and emotions.

I haven't had a chance to watch the liveshow yet, but I have been thinking the last few days that I am loving this sense of ownership and boundaries that I just keep getting from them both. Like, maybe as a fan I am sad that for Dan this means going MIA but I overall just find that so healthy that I can't be really too mad about it. I don't know, I'm a new fan, so I don't have the history many of you have, but I just get a sense of agency and authenticity from them both that I really like (and of course, this is just as much about me projecting my own need for more agency and authenticity in my own life, etc., but I am still digging it).

I love that people are discovering that Phil can and will be a sassy bitch when he wants to because it's one of my favorite things about him. He can be extremely stubborn and pretty confident in his ideas and i just love love love that about him

I took his comment a completely different way at first. I’m kind of upset that they left it in. And more upset that that guy feels that way.

wow. not gonna lie, this boils my blood a little. it's not that they just "left" it in but the interviewer pushed the joke further with that word "settle" and the zoom in. the guy has been using dan as a running joke on the channel for years. sorry this is one step too far for me.

Yikes, that's rude and gross from both of them. For a second I also thought that joke would go differently, and then the host doubled down. Also what's with men who look like a thumb thinking they're in the position to 'settle' for anyone, especially someone like Phil? I'm not petty at all and I have no idea why you accuse me of that.

Honestly, y'all? I miss Dan Howell on a spiritual level at this point.

‘Who look like a thumb’ tbh I didn’t care, but obvs I see why people are offended for Phil. When I first clicked on I was just so glad it wasn’t Jazza just before him who’d said it, but he’s praised Phil’s merch before and worn it to SITC and in a video, so he has Phil taste.

What I find more odd is the idea that he was there without Dan. That people only noticed Phil. Surely Bryony was there, but the idea that Phil might just be chillin’ at a drag show on his own really brings me joy.

There’s tweets all over twitter now from people that attended the show and they all are saying it was Phil. I’m actually shocked that Phil would go to a drag show before Dan but Phil has been doing so many things I’d never thought he’d do that I don’t know why I’m surprised.

Hm. I'm not sure if I want to take those with a grain of salt or not...

And not at you, Aminaw, because it's something I see much more in phandom outside of this platform and your post doesn't really reflect this, but the idea that because Dan's so much "louder" about his queerness than Phil = making him more likely to do things like go to drag shows before Phil feel so routed in that weird forced feminization on Dan and it just always throws me off and kind of makes me mad because of the weird ass expectations thrown on Dan all the time as a more "effeminate" gay man.

Tbh I would have expected them to go to a drag show together but eh, again they can do whatever they want with whoever they want. I have no insecurity in their relationship like a lot of people seem to do lol.

Phil isn't friends with Scaredy Kat (unless I've missed a lot); I assume the friend we're talking about is Adam? I don't think Adam has anything to do with the Scaredy Kat show just because they both do drag? Am I missing something here?
