Loved yesterday's video, dont have much to add that others haven't already mentioned, loved all the timestamps guys
I also really loved the licking video so I hope they do some more of those troll-y ones along with their usual choice of games. I'm extremely grateful for their renewed focus and genuine devotion and enjoyment towards the gaming channel since Gamingmas

Edit: its interesting to note that their 1-2 Switch video and Zoella's new video have had almost the same no. of views in less than a day despite the disparity of their subscriber counts and that deppy's audience continues to remain one of the most engaged

after some consideration, as I hate not understanding what I feel, I flipped the video back how it should be (100% recommend), braced myself and rewatched it (twice to make sure). Was much better for me like that, I'm beginning to see why so many of you loved it. Still not my favourite video, though, and some things still seem, I don't know, weird is too strong a word, but, for example, Phil at the beginning (1:07), looking straight to the camera and then talking about how funny the videos demonstrating how to play the mini-games are, seems a bit nervous and then, idk, excited? And also obviously looking to Dan for his reaction for some reason (some other things and a brief dicussion under spoiler)

- Cowboy shipping from Dan, Phil agreeing, then an immediate jump cut
- Phil's reaction face @ 03:35 when he sees the milk thing is just hilarious, ok
- I tried counting gay jokes, but it doesn't get me anywhere, they are not that cringe or, you know, homophobic, to continue a bit the discussion you guys had on the herpes thing, and, as others have said, those jokes do seem kinda natural for them
- I like how Dan's closing his eyes during the milk thing, same. And Phil's face continues to be the most fascinating thing at this point, but as opposed to Dan, he's really trying to keep looking at him while doing the, uhm, milking. Also, I never want to hear Phil's voice form "Just milk that cow, Dan" ever again, sorry, Dan is dying internally at this point (also, same)
- The role-playing cowboy thing is still very painful to watch, probable the worst part for me (and they are, for real, way too comfortable with it, as someone mentioned, guess all that TATINOF practice we've never seen is paying off), but Dan's "you should be" at 6:09 in response to Phil's "I'm scared" is the most sexually charged thing in the whole video, which is saying something (complete with Phil's glance to the camera after another innuendo, thanks )

So, I guess, after rewatching this, the strangest part for me, apart from the flipping, was that there was no buffer, Deppy kept making innuendos and sexually charged jokes at and off each other, as opposed to, like, at the food, as in the infamous baking video, or at the game itself, because here the game was very much absent, or, if you want, Deppy were the game, the roleplaying aspect was way more important than reacting to an image (like the "I mounted you" in the Donkey Kong or even the Horse Prince). But it still wasn't 100% natural bants, because the audience was very much present and Deppy, at least at some moments, were very aware of it. What was maybe different is that they made an effort not to be too preoccupied by the possible reaction - or maybe they were so genuinely entertained that they forgot themselves at times.

Then, there's the whole eye-contact thing and the way they addressed the weirdness of it, in general terms, but not in relation to each other. I can't believe that I'm saying it, but maybe the absence of is what also made it weird for me? Idk, really, I'm still very much confused. I mean, I've seen men in different forms of relationship (openly lovers, friends, just colleagues) in entertainment making innuendos at each other because their fans and/or they themselves like it, and I'm not trying to bring back the fanservice discussion, this video doesn't feel like fanservice anyway, but the audience was a third party in the video, I *am* the audience and I really can't understand what reaction I'm supposed to have

This is great analysis! I think you have articulated a large part of what feels weird to me about the Switch video: the seeming complete lack of the filter we are still so used to and thus comfortable with. It's outside (some of) our comfort zone--not because we're homophobic, or prudish, or don't enjoy seeing our friends horse around in similar ways, but because we're still getting used to it from Deppy. We all know we've been on a progression, one video at a time, in this Post-Baking Universe, but maybe this particular step was a bit bigger that the others, and so we're caught a bit off balance.

But what if the next steps will be this big as well?!?

I wanted to answer it, even if it's from the previous thread, because I just overthink everything so much that I can't ever reply in time, so it seems like I don't engage at all, I swear, I'm a nice person and I want to have conversations

As someone who also tends to think too long before saying anything, I can appreciate all of this! I particularly appreciate your boldly going back and answering something even when the thread has "moved on".

I finally managed to watch the new video. Humour on point, Phil won, no weird faces from Dan - I am happy. And I usually drool over Phil, but Dan - wow This is the first time I preferred his new haircut over his old one (I did like it, but I liked the other one better)! Also, Dan was not a sore loser this time. He didn't seem bothered at all when Phil won. Well, he let go of the board but apart from that, he was very civil, well done!

No one asked me but to reply to people asking why we watch dan and phil and if it's all about shippy/phan moments:

I think saying that Dan and Phil's content is only good for watching their relationship progress is a bit of an insult to Dan and Phil. Sure, sometimes Dan's videos are kinda basic (I'm looking at you, How To Survive Exams...) but the truth is that Dan and Phil put a lot of work into what they do and have a good result. Take TATINOF for example...maybe one part of it was cringey but the rest of it was damn well rehearsed and they not only pulled it off, they owned it, served it, blew us all away. They have three channels between the two of them, even though they're pretty much a duo at this point. After TATINOF was released on youtube red they've been uploading extremely frequently, and it's been a few months now. They've maintained a successful youtube career for a very long time, something a lot of OG youtubers completely failed to do.

I could go on, but I just feel strongly that Dan and Phil are more than The Story of Phan. Yes, the story of phan is beautiful, and I am very excited to see how it continues. I ship them with all of my being and I want them to get married and have 10 dogs. But I'm also enjoying the content they're putting their hard work into along the way.

I agree so much! Yes, I did get into them because I was intrigued why people seemed so convinced they are together and why their fans are literally everywhere, but that's not why I stayed.
For me, it's the whole package that makes me love them: amazing chemistry, the mystery of phan, humour I enjoy, content that I like, interesting and likeable personalities and it certainly doesn't hurt that they are good-looking. Take away the mystery of phan and make me a lesbian and I'm pretty sure I'd still enjoy their videos. I don't always need all aspects to enjoy a video, they played plenty of games that I couldn't care less about but their bants made the videos enjoyable anyway. That's why I think that the chemistry they have is an important reason of why I like them, but I also like them on their own, so it's not the only thing that keeps me here.

And another important reason why I like being a fan of them, is that they are people I feel fine supporting on a moral level. They don't seem to use their fans, like some other YouTubers, especially those with a younger fanbase, do.
They do almost everything themselves and even those that are in charge of the D&P shop aren't random people but members of Phil's family. They wrote their book themselves and made it fit their personalities and story. They didn't just do a Q&A tour, they made an actual theatrical stage show and came up with the whole concept on their own, getting help only when they needed it. And I really appreciate that because I can see that they work very hard. To a casual viewer, it might seem like phan is the only reason why they are so popular, but I think that's wrong. It is certainly a factor and there are some people who are here just for that, but I don't think they would be as popular if everything apart from the phan aspect was changed.
They are savvy business people, I know, but their ways of gaining money don't seem questionable to me. It seems to actually matter to them that they make their fans happy and don't make them pay loads of money for nothing. They found this middle ground between earning a lot of money and still staying ethical and I really appreciate that. They do things for charity and don't brag about it. When they mention it, they either do it casually in a ls where only a small part of the phandom can hear it or they use their popularity to raise money, like they did for SU2C. I wish more (business) people would be like that. Not saying they are perfect and never decide to do something just because they get money but I don't believe they would ever do something I'd consider morally wrong.

I'm not sure what you want to hear. My favorite response to this was by Jack Septiceye in one of his blogs. He said that over the years (in this case many years) people change. Youtubers change, content changes, and most importantly, YOU change. It's possibly you just have different priorities and values now than you did 8-10 years ago. So does he. As far as I can tell Dan has always been a little shit, but I accept that and still like him because he is A. still figuring himself out, hes only 26 let a guy live. and B. He kinda sorta owns up to things, even if it takes him a decade to do so. he is only just now barely starting to admit that maybe he had issues when he was starting out, and even in his liveshow today he mentioned that he probably needs to see a therapist. He was kinda joking, but he really does. (everyone does IMO)

I have a feeling 35 year old Dan will look back at 25 year old Dan and shake his head and tsk and ask who he was trying to impress so hard. So don't worry about it. Enjoy the cute content, and don't have him as a role model. He's just as confused and trying to fake his way through the world as the rest of us.

i didn't enjoy this ls as much as the one two weeks ago, it wasn't very interesting and it had a slight negative vibe that i can't rly explain

would anybody consider the moment dan talked about phanart today an anti-phan moment?
someone messaged him saying he liked phanart on tumblr and he denied knowing it was phanart because he didn't read the caption and when he did it was too late. i don't consider it an anti moment as such but it could've easily been ignored in my opinion, i rolled my eyes a little

We don't delete posts. We would remove any part of a post that would cause a loss of privacy or incite harassment, but since this is something Dan has publicly talked about, there's nothing we can do.
