Re: casuals and tour - I now can connect the dots! I remember feeling a bit taken aback by Dan's eagerness to discuss 'where they will go from here'. Why the need to make executive decisions and implement structured plans when all is going so well?tinnie wrote: Thu Aug 15, 2024 12:51 pmThat's what I'd assume, that it's gonna be for people who have been here for a while but they also said about how you can bring people who don't know them and they'll enjoy it because you don't need to know anything. Which kinda goes against that and is not what most people really want.amazing wrote: Thu Aug 15, 2024 5:20 am anyway, re: casuals possibly not caring for the dapg return - dnp very much gear their content towards their core fanbase. terrible influence is the best example of this - it's explicitly marketed to current and old fans of theirs. general public who?
But of course, they must also have noticed the potential for 1M views and its drop, and even if the tour is selling well, they were also careful to point out that non-phans will enjoy it. Both these things basically link to their desire to potentially increase their fanbase, rather than simply maintain it. Which makes total sense! It's nice to see people grown and have that mentality of constant growth!
It must feel rather risky to invest again in something that could make them grow, knowing how unreliable and merciless YouTube has been with other creators of their same/higher leverage (Try Guys and the other ones who wanted to move to a private platform etc)
Because it's so risky, I wonder if they develop plans on their own or if they do market research with an agency or wider team (Which one?)
My sister just sent me screenshots of some people on twitter being pissy that the conspiracy theories submissions are for tour and not a video because not everyone gets to go on tour. Something about how it's "unfair" because it's not for a video. Like c'mon
Getting to go to a tour is a privilege not a right that Dan and Phil are taking away from these people. What's next? They shouldn't be promoting it to not hurt people's feelings? Not sell tour exclusive merch there?

so they're basically saying 'hey dnp you know those shows people are paying a ton of money to see? and how you've always taken so much pride in making those productions that you love performing? yeah don't bother with that just put zero effort in this time please and thanks'?
lmao. That's honestly disrespectful. I've seen it in kpop fandoms where people get upset about their faves performing exclusive songs at fanmeeting in Korea that are never released anywhere else (filming at concerts is usually strictly prohibited there) so I guess I shouldn't be surprised about seeing the same sentiment from some phannies. I sympathize with those unable to go see them, especially those who are simply not able to because of location, I truly do. And people have every right to voice disappointment. But having a bad attitude about it like that does bother me, it's not like Dan and Phil are not personally out to get you.
And hey they don't have to withhold all regular social media content to put in a glorified scrapbook like they had to do back in TATINOF era, so if they keep up with social media and some videos (without working themselves to death again of course) hopefully it will still be a fun era for everyone? Especially if they manage to film and release it somewhere again.

I had a smile on my face throughout that video. I love watching them be nostalgic and positive about their past — which probably bodes well for what I’ll think of their new show! And it WAS a really cool show especially given YouTubers weren’t doing stuff like that then.
I'm having a stress.
Exactly. Also as someone from a small country that most artists never come to (though thankfully still in Europe so now as an adult with a job I have the opportunity to travel somewhere else) I never expect anyone to come here and completely understand why they wouldn't. I'd assume that people in similar countries, though disappointed, would be used to this and understand. They say nobody comes to those countries so why is it Dan and Phil they vent their disappointment on? Because they're more online than your average artist and people think if they push them hard enough they'll pack up the tour for 2 exclusive shows in Africa, Asia or Latin America? I don't think Dan and Phil have it out for anyone, but this is a business after all and between how many fans they can see they have in which part of the world, how difficult it would be to bring to some places, whether those places even want to book them and what the profit would be, they can't go everywhere and have it a good financial decision. In the newest video they mentioned probably losing money on the UK leg of TATINOF and they do it for the passion but they can't just do it for that.Catallena wrote: Fri Aug 16, 2024 8:45 pm so they're basically saying 'hey dnp you know those shows people are paying a ton of money to see? and how you've always taken so much pride in making those productions that you love performing? yeah don't bother with that just put zero effort in this time please and thanks'?

But again disappointment and trying to incentivize them to come to certain countries is still different from whining about how people are disappointed if they hint at doing something and it's not for a video. Usually Phil always mentions something he's asking is for a video so when he didn't, I was suspicious. Real fans clocked that

The new video was so sweet. I love that they refuse to cringe, instead appreciate the times. And they're right, they set the bar high and I don't know who else would even come close.
Also- a thought on people being mad that D&P aren’t coming to their country:
With II, they made a miscalculation by putting the “TBA” locations in the original announcement and then ultimately not being able to secure some of those places. They are obviously aware that other countries exist and that they have an audience in other countries who would come - based on where they went or tried to go with II. My guess is that they have plans to try to take their show some less travelled-to (for stage show) places, but are being more cautious with announcing it this time to avoid getting people’s hopes up. I could be wrong and I totally understand the disappointment of not being able to go. But that’s my guess.

Dan has said on Twitter that they ARE trying to bring the tour to more regions, so yeahGrey wrote: Fri Aug 16, 2024 11:05 pm Also- a thought on people being mad that D&P aren’t coming to their country:

That was genuinely such a cute video. I had no right to feel so wholesome about their little splinge moment lmao.
I've never actually seen TATINOF before, I assumed it probably didn't age well but maybe I was wrong?? It definitely has that 2015 vibe but they're right, it isn't cringe imo.

You know what I find crazy? I don't remember anyone pointing out Dan's signal for Phil to fix his hair on stage. Knowing us and how basically that whole show has been gif'ed, how did we miss that??
And Phil IMMEDIATELY recognized what Dan was trying to do there. Idk I just thought that was really cute

I think that it has been long enough since TATINOF for it to have come out of the cringe phase into the genuine nostalgia era. I do still cringe a bit though, but I did back then too lol.
Definitely have never ever heard anyone about Dan signaling to Phil to fix his fringe. Can't believe nobody caught that lol.

I'm pretty sure I watched TATINOF back when it came out on youtube because none of the stuff in the show was a surprise to me now that they reacted to it but I decided to rewatch it today. I wouldn't call it cringe but it's definitely over the top and exaggerated. Not in a bad way just strange to think about how it blends real stuff and made up stuff. Like where is the line between the real Dan and Phil and the characters of Dan and Phil in this show? I only have the official video to go by and I guess comparing it to the other shows would give me an answer but for example when they do the 7 second challenge, does Phil always lose so they can do all or nothing? In the official video he can't name enough breeds of dogs so he loses but the challenges are made up by the audience, right? What if Dan messes up any of the challenges?
Anyway, I never actually watched II *hides in shame* except for endlessly rewatching the singing bit so that's next. After the story of TATINOF that is. I'm pre-gaming hard.

Is the invisible thread theory dnp-specific, or what is the history there? I thought it was a more general trope.
I don't think it's dnp specific but I think a lot of people apply it to themliterally_formless wrote: Sun Aug 18, 2024 2:49 pm Is the invisible thread theory dnp-specific, or what is the history there? I thought it was a more general trope.
I'm obsessed. dnp create 3 stories that aren't explicitly sexual/romantic but have their self-named characters obsessed with each other/committed to dying beside each other. They refer to their characters as lovers. They call the stories "steamy."
They really are trying to boil the frog, huh? By the time they're posting, idk, freakin wedding rings on Instagram we won't even blink. Damn, what a year.

As much as I laughed at the end when everything was going wrong, I'll be glad to move on to something else. And I wonder if this change of background was just something he chose for these 3 vids or if that's now the new background and why.
So since we still know nearly nothing about the tour less than 2 weeks away, I decided to ask chatGPT to give me ideas for TIT and some gave me a pretty good laugh so I'm sharing the results
5 and 6 I could see as a reality, 9 is also very on brand but I didn't expect chatgpt to pull out 12 out of the history
