Ok well now twitter is flipping out because they think he didn't understand the pinof reference (updatedphan only tweeted the first comment and Dan's) and he's obviously reacting to the Undertale reference right? Sometimes I can't with twitter. They're ruining a lovely moment with selective screenshotting.

edit: nevermind his response on facebook was after acknowledging the font on twitter so it's Dan ruining the moment. but whatever, I don't expect him to immediately catch every reference (especially when it's a very general nice sentiment) when they're probably exhausted from performing.
but it makes me wonder if they would have posted that photo if they understood it referenced pinof1...

edit again: mysterylovescompany I believe in this context (tired after m&g and doing the show) they could have missed it and just got caught up in 'aw how sweet' since the whole crowd had them

I think Dan really doesn't recognise the pinof reference, because his instagram caption mentioned the sans and papyrus, but I don't think it is something to be flipped out about? Like it was obviously years ago? (and what I say above is just a joke. Haha)

I don't really have much productive to add to any of this conversation since I'm about to go to bed and don't have time to run through the day's events in details, but between the fantastic tatinof review that idontreallyknow posted over on the tatinof sub-forum (check it out if you don't mind spoilers), and that instagram photo - I'm nothing but a mushy pile of phan trash.

I'm going to drift off to sleep now with fond thoughts of them listening to each other sing in the shower back in the London flat, or and perhaps cuddling on their potentially-queen mattress in their probably-definitely-one-bedroom tour bus and being slightly emotional over synchronized audience gestures involving cheesy but amusing references to their past cuteness.

I interpreted his comment as exaggerated/sarcastic amazement for comedic effect, with an underlying meaning of, "Yeah, of course there's a PINOF reference. There are more than one reference; I was pointing out the more subtle one." It never crossed mind that he didn't get the PINOF reference right away until I came here. But who knows with Dan; I've learned you can't always give him the benefit of the doubt.

Just watching this unfold is absolutely hilarious. After reading your guys' posts I am just imagining Dan being cramped up in a tiny bunk, not being able to stretch out because he's too tall, lonely and without WiFi or TV, and then there's Phil, stretched out on his queen bed watching Buffy and eating popcorn with some nice AC to keep him cool.

I'm catching up with about 47 pages of content but I'm really going to need to see some fanart of this.

The Instagram story of the two fans was so cute, and coupled with the pinof audience signs? Ugh I really think Dan noticed the pinof reference first, aside from the caption backing that up "(even written in Comic Sans and Papyrus)" there were all those collages in tabinof of pinof quotes, including that one.

[offtopic]I was just going to quote the chain of comments about above that ended with oqua's post with the two videos, and I was re-watching the US tatinof trailer she posted when I hit the 2:22 mark and heard the weirdest noise ever, it sounds like someone saying "Mm-hmm" like an agreeing sound, but it's definitely neither of them, it doesn't even sound like someone sitting there in the room with them but I can't figure it out, it's the weirdest thing! I thought it was on the show I had on my TV in the background but then I rewound it I heard it again. Am I hearing/imagining things? wtf is this I'm actually kind of freaked out lol

The "mm-hmm" you're hearing is actually part of the audio that is playing after Phil says 'surprises'. I'm pretty sure the audio clip is from the video game Laura Croft: Tomb Rator.

realistically, why would you remember such a minor comment you made 7 years ago? pinof for them is going to be more memorable for what it was, not for a gifable moment. we have less to remember since we only watched a short, edited video, their memories of filming it and that general day are going to be different, and far more important than a single, sarcastic line.

It is. It's a Tomb Raider sound effect (those nerds...!) and it's her reacting to finding an item/artefact thingy in the early games in the series.
