Since the whole rambling is predecess by not wanting to be alone, I take this as a non specific phrase. I don't know how to explain this as I am neither articulate nor English is my first language. But what I am trying to say is the subject of that quote is not 'that person' but his own feeling of wanting a companion, so it is not relevant to say he is afraid of 'that person's' death when that person doesn't exist yet in his narrative(?).canireally wrote:Hi everyone, just de-lurking here
Do you think by "fear of the person not being there" he meant death or just the person not being with him?
Rephrasing again because i think my explanation is shit, I intepret the whole thing as he is afraid of being alone, so he wants a companion to accompany him until the end of time (and of whom he is also sexually attracted with), and he call that feeling love. So I find neither afraid of the person's death nor the person not being there with him is fit in the interpretation of the phrase because his narrative is from the perspective of still not finding love yet. And I take the phrase 'fear of the person not being there' as fear of not finding anyone at all to love and be loved in return.
pls tell me somebody get what I wanted to say lol i hate myself

Regarding the debate on Deppy being private/their fans ruining everything and running it into the ground, this YouTuber Stef talks about that at 1:40 and I thought of the Deppy situation so it's not just them. She even says she wouldn't want to share a relationship or play video games which I think Dan in particular would relate to. She's very eloquent with topics like this so I'm glad she just made this video while we're talking about it! It was interesting.

But yeah, she makes a good pint about fans' entitlement to relationships, and I find it interesting that she talked about not only romantic relationships but friendships as well.

I think he meant the person not being there. But I also am fascinated by everything he said during that little moment and how he chose to word it. (I'm gonna cheat and paste in a slightly edited version of what I already posted on tumblr.)canireally wrote:Hi everyone, just de-lurking here

I think it was a very Dan answer, but Dan consciously trying not to relate it back to his immediate experience while also answering spur of the moment without the chance to really think out what he was saying. And what did he say?
- That love has a lot of connotations.
- That love is a feeling, more than sexual attraction.
- That love is a combination of that feeling and sexual attraction.
- That part of love is comfort in escaping the fear of being alone.
- That love is fear of that person not being there, combined with sexual attraction and just-
The last sentence that he didn’t finish might have been the one that linked everything he’d previously mentioned (feelings + sexual attraction + fear of that person not being there) but since that was the point where he decided he was done sharing with the line of thought, we can’t really be sure.
Despite the fact that he was trying to sound objective and not immediately relating it back to himself in first person, there’s really no other way to interpret his concept of what love is besides what love is to him. I’m surprised he even gave that much of an honest response. That kind of topic has to be terrifying to talk live about if you're someone who tries as hard as he/they do to keep their private life private from fans.
So basically: I don’t view it as pragmatic so much as an aborted response, but accurate - and accurate to him - in what he did state.

it is funny though you used the words "to love and to be loved in return", there's a dailybooth post of him quoting those words from the song Nature Boy, adding it's all that matters

I connect with Phil's love of fruity drinks on a spiritual level.gnostic wrote:Passionfruit mixed drinks are vastly superior to any other kind, well done Philipporealeyesrealize wrote:

I have absolutely nothing besides this is what the mug looks like. Haha. Maybe my mind subconsciously take it from there, who knows but I actually use the phrase a lot in real life. Have no idea where I pick it up from tbhcanireally wrote:yes yes thanks a lot i get what you're saying!swofro wrote:

Now to figure out which restaurant in London uses that mug... Didn't Dan speak about the dinner during the liveshow? Something about the way a dish was served. I'm off to go do research about that instead of studying for an exam I have tomorrow.
Oops, my demon phannie is showing

Update: Watched the section of the liveshow where Dan talks about the dinner. It was apparently a sushi restaurant. He ordered a dessert that looked like a zen garden, with sherbet, chocolate "rocks" and a tiny wooden rake. Hm....

Sorry for the double post but I believe I found the restaurant!
Remember that time I was calling the phandom extra and then I went and found out where they ate oops
According to Dan's description of his dessert, they ate at a restaurant called "Sushisamba". https://sushisamba.com/location/london/menu/all-day
Not sure what drink Phil had. It could have been any number of the fruity drinks they have on the menu. I just searched "sushi London" and sushisamba was the top result because it is $$$$ on the price scale. I'm actual trash, y'all.

Holy crap good job
My inner demon phannie wants to figure out seating arrangements.
Hm can't tell if correct but the table seems to be circular and inside because the tables outside have gaps in them

These seem to be the tables they sat at. Not large enough for a large number of people may I add

[offtopic]I just have to make this unnecessary comment to proclaim that Stef is lovely and I was pleasantly surprised to see that someone mentioned her video in this threadlilMango wrote:(I love Stef so much!! I find it quite interesting that Stef wouldn't record herself playing video games, but she did document her facial feminisation surgery recovery. One would think that it would be the other way round. But it does make sense, as she wants to have something for herself that she enjoys, which it wouldn't be anymore if she shared it with her audience.
I think Dan and Phil must have very similar reasons. Playing games that they truly care about would kinda ruin the game for them. As Stef said, not because fans want to ruin it, but because it becomes work and they have to make an effort to react in an entertaining way, be good enough at the game to not make it boring, etc. And then they have to read the comments of people who react to their gameplay. I do think that would reduce the amount of fun.[/offtopic]

The texture of the table/color of the napkins align with Phil's picture! Still can't find a picture of a drink at sushisamba served in that skull mug though...
And you're right! That's a weird kind of arrangement. Hm.

Not yet found the drink.
But this restaurant appears to actually be directly below the Duck and Waffle, where they ate before

Honestly can't find any matches for Phil's drink, not least served in a skull mug :wtf:.
The closest match I could find is the "Coconut ceviche" because it seems to be served in a variety of glasses and is served with passion fruit and yeah that is a very very long shot

Same! Most of the drinks on their menu list that they are also served in a carafe- maybe the skull mug was the carafe???SexyTrashCan wrote:Honestly can't find any matches for Phil's drink, not least served in a skull mug :wtf:.

Or perhaps its the wrong place. I don't know how many other sushi resturaunts in London serve a dessert that looks like a zen garden but

This is likely the dessert Dan had. Matches his description to a t.

The fact that the restaurant you found just so happens to be one floor below the Duck and Waffle though seems like an odd coincidence though in my opinion./fɪl lɛstɚ/ wrote:Same! Honestly can't find much else. Will pause super sleuthing for now.
Still find the seating arrangement interesting.

I feel like we all need to take a moment to appreciate how funny Dan's reply to PJ was sometimes I forget but he really cracks me up omg
I'm living for discussing Dan's definition of love, one of the most interesting things in a liveshow in a while. I thought it was really sweet. Also I'm so glad someone (sorry I forgot who it was) also thought Dan was about to say he would punch the trainer if he ever saw him. It kinda looked like he was going to say it then back-tracked and said "he'd make me do the tire lifts oh no!!"
not super important, but something about the kyle/leon thing (wow that sounds like fanfic doesn't it) and dan potentially revealing his real name -- i've been thinking about this all day (not literally) and i feel like phil recently mentioned someone named kyle? i could be imagining things but i seem to have a memory of him saying that name, so when dan got it mixed up in the liveshow, i thought he just confused him with a guy from a different phil story. does anyone know what i'm on about or is my brain already producing fake deppy memories?
thank's you were great

Pretty sure Phil has mentioned Kyle in videos about his childhood before, like The Breakuplurker wrote:not super important, but something about the kyle/leon thing (wow that sounds like fanfic doesn't it) and dan potentially revealing his real name -- i've been thinking about this all day (not literally) and i feel like phil recently mentioned someone named kyle? i could be imagining things but i seem to have a memory of him saying that name, so when dan got it mixed up in the liveshow, i thought he just confused him with a guy from a different phil story. does anyone know what i'm on about or is my brain already producing fake deppy memories?
