oh my god, don't awaken the monster that was #busgate
it has been discussed through and through at the time when they released the trailer, then when the docu itself was released, and i think AGAIN when deppy had the watchalong. i think the conclusion was that a fan gave it to them. you can search the forum and find those discussions from that time.

Okay I officially watched the video and I didn't think Dan was being that grouchy? I thought him breaking the fourth wall with the heart eyes anime thing was funny af! I watched it in a study in school and I actually had to hold in my laughter at some parts (Mostly because of Phil, he's been slaying cutemas).

To add to them faking reactions and stuff... I mean it's weird and annoying but they always do this so I'm not surprised so whatever.

Also lol @busgate. Leave it to Dan and Phil to make a whole freaking no homo SCENE about Dan sleeping in a bed he doesn't fit in then also have a "Dan and Phil" sign on the master bedroom door and another scene with Dan in the bed playing with Phil's hair. I can't keep up with them ever so I just choose not to bother with phan anymore tbh. Can't set myself up for disappointment

I enjoyed the video. I didn't really think Dan was in a bad mood either, he seemed normal to me, and the island thing was obviously a joke. Also remember that all their videos are very carefully edited. Everything we get to see is what they want us to see. If Phil wasn't okay with the island joke it wouldn't be in the finished video so he most likely was. And why wouldn't he be? They've been best friends for nearly a decade and I think they know each other well enough to get each other's jokes. I do find Dark!Phil interesting though but I don't think it's something completely new we've never seen before. Phil's always had a morbid side to him, we know he loves horror books and films for instance so it's not like he's never let on he likes darker morbid things before. I think this is something he might have played down a bit because it didn't fit the cute persona? Just an idea. But it was definitely there before.

Oh, my two cents about the island question:

When I watched it I was wasn't really surprised about Dan's decision (branding an all) but rather how Phil only brought up only their ...friendship, no other friends or family ( ) , apparently it's just Phil and the gaming channel that's keeping Dan from living a hermit life on an island. Probably too real...

A little OT, but the hidden dark!Phil mention reminded me that some time during this summer I wanted to make a compilation of moments when it looks like Phil is trying to rile up/troll Dan with #phan (or does so accidentally).
I kinda forgot about it even though I already made a tiny list, so here it is, maybe someone could think of other moments?

Hey I've noticed you've brought up a few things here asking if they've been discussed before. We have a search function in place that can be very useful if you're not sure if something's been discussed. If it's not super recent, chances are we talked about it! x

Also guys I know Dan wasn't serious about saying he wants to leave Phil forever for a desert island, it just seemed so different from the rest of gamingmas that it annoyed me a bit and threw me through a loop. As some others said, it was kinda a tone change. All gamingmas they seemed really positive and on the same page and in sync, and this registered to me as a bit of tension between them. I know I can't project onto them my own friendship dynamics and I know that their friendship is strong enough to withstand something like this, lol, I know it's not a big deal between them it was just weird to see right smack in the middle of the rest of the videos we've been getting.

Pic's of the victory screen or it didn't happen lol. That's just based on my experiences though, it's a pretty specific lie to come up with. I tend to believe 2016 deppy over 2009 deppy.

I also don't believe Dan ever played Katamari before because there is no way he would have been able to avoid using the boost. It's a key part of playing the game well, and it would kill him to hold back.

The referenced post where Phil says he and Dan played bubble bobble was a Dailybooth, not a tweet (not that it matters for your point). I'm interested in your view that they lied about the random crap they posted (there's a lot references to games!), and maybe not the salacious stuff. I've mostly seen the argument that focuses on all the flirting and innuendo as fake (shipbaiting). Can you say more?

In my own study (ahem), I always took the references to games/food/etc. at face value, but it's interesting to consider that they were misdirection.

And it's not the matter of what era to trust, but on what matter. Dan and Phil had been caught scripting things many many times. Creating an elaborate cover story of daily booth for others' benefit or as an in joke over that sounds contrived

Hmm, Dan has "admitted" (how much you trust that admission is up to you bc it was a reply to him hiding his bisexuality) that he used to lie a lot for attention/not be the best human being at the time, and he also made his video Spiral of Lies where he talks about saying one innocent random white lie and then piling more lies on top of that to support the first lie, until it becomes a huge stage and act.

But have we ever had proof/suspicion of Phil lying? either for views, for attention, to hide himself, or even random crap? I'm not saying he wouldn't ever 100% cinnamon roll, but we have little to go by because he usually seems so composed when he talks. I'm not saying he doesn't lose his cool but he seems to be the kind of person that's bad at hiding something on the fly but good at keeping cool under a controlled story, does that make sense?

also I'm sure that Phil realised that having Dan around also boosted his own subs and content, let's not pretend that it was only Dan getting a leg up, even if Dan's progress shot through the roof a lot quicker, Phil's views at the moment are actually really good compared to his sub count, whereas Dan has more subs but the views are around Phil's level

I thought Phil was actually the first one to say 'we met through a mutual friend in Manchester', someone correct me, but even if he wasn't the originator of it, he said it in a liveshow once. Tsk tsk. But yeah he definitely tends to have a stronger poker face.

I think this isn't unlikely. 2009 was bloody ages ago, I certainly don't remember every shitty flash game I dabbled in back then (BB ≠ a shitty flash game I know, but that's my own gaming tastes, sigh). We only remember what D&P did back then because we see it archived on the internet; they probably don't remember what they archived on the internet and what they didn't, and certainly won't have spent as much time revisiting it as we have.

Plus, if Dan was being suggestive on Twitter/Dailybooth/etc. for attention and views, so was Phil. Phil may not have gotten naked, but the Dailybooth that I found most shockingly suggestive was Phil's with the milk.

Also, if a certain video is fake, Phil's the biggest liar there is. (Or, it's not fake, and he's lied about that.)
