I appreciate this guy's honesty and if he had only talked about himself, i would have no problem with this, but the way he talked made it clear imo that he projects his experience onto all creators. Like it's impossible that there are people on youtube who have genuine fun making those stupid videos that get views, because they have the same stupid humour as those viewers.
Not everybody wants to be a filmmaker.
On top of that i don't like when youtubers complain about good quality content not getting the views and recognition it should, while easy, cheap content does. For some reason they always make it sound like that's just a youtube problem (like Jack Howard). But that's the case in literally all branches of media/art. Popular music and movies/tv shows tend to be bad as well, while artsy, "good" things aren't really mainstream. Of course, that's not always the case, every once in a while there are films and musicians that are artistically good and popular at the same time, but realistically that's rare.
That's just how entertaniment works and i have to admit that most of the things i like are mainstream and objectively not good. I like them anyway because i want to be entertained and after a long day at work and general adulting i don't want to use my head, just give me mindless entertainment plz
Also just because a video isn't original or well made doesn't make it bad. I still think one of the funniest videos on youtube is deppy's photobooth challenge, which is neither original, nor took it a lot of work and effort to make.
Lastly, there's nothing stopping anyone from making the content they WANT to make. If they don't want to give up money and views they get from more popular videos, they can just mix them as a compromise. Which is what this guy apparently has been doing.
Obviously he has a right to complain about this if he isn't happy about his situation, but i wish he wouldn't drag the rest of youtube into it.
Idk, i understand why creators who make art that is important to them are bitter about the collective "bad" taste of society, but that's just how it is (On every platform).
