Tyler's video made me cry, Hannah's video made me cry, Shane's video made me cry, Tomska's video made me cry. People crying about things that already made me cry makes me cry.

Tom:

What’s so awful is that... this isn’t surprising. You look at the pandemonium surrounding some of these people: the millions of fans, the screaming crowds. And you also look at how incredibly accessible YTers are as people. All you have to do is queue for a few hours and you can meet anyone. All it takes is one crazy to just… just kill someone. And it’s finally happened now. The question used to be “Who will be the first?” and now it’s “Who will be next?” And this is where everything changes, everything is going to change after this. You’re going to see security ramp up exponentially at events, you’re going to see a lot of YTers not go to events anymore. It’s just awful.
Gun talk/Orlando:
19:05ish wrote:Today we saw the biggest terror attack in the US since 9/11 and all because some piece of shit just decided to go kill some other human beings because he didn’t like them being gay. Didn’t like them being LGBTQ and unsurprisingly it’s filled me with a lot of thoughts and opinions. Specifically, about guns. Yes! We’re going to talk about guns.

Me, this guy. And I like guns, I think they’re cool. I like playing video games with guns, watching movies with guns, making videos with guns. And that’s not going to stop really. That’s because that’s fiction. There’s camera angles and editing, and original music compositions and sound design and I think people know the difference between fiction and reality but….

On my second channel, here, where it's really me and I'm really talking about the stuff that I feel and the things I believe in, I have, since the get-go, vlogged in front of a wall of guns. A wall of prop guns. And my philosophy has always been, “It’s just a cool background, it’s just a cool thing, things that I think are cool, and people shouldn’t associate the two." But I can no longer in good faith keep doing that because when I'm standing there talking about things I believe in, it now just seems so mental to do that in front of a backdrop of symbols of war, and death, and destruction. Unsurprisingly, things that I don’t believe in.

And I just can't keep doing that. I don't want people to even in the smallest way associate what I believe in with these guns. And I don’t want to in any way help normalise the appearance of guns just in a casual setting, in a setting they’re not even relevant to. Again, with an action video, it’s like “OK, that’s there, that’s where they’re supposed to be” but when I’m taking about equality or even just anything and there’s just these guns here— like why? There’s no reason for them to be there, and we shouldn’t as a society just accept them because they’re these fucking terrible things and they do terrible things. And people shouldn’t be able to get access to them so easy. You know in America it’s easier to get a hold of a real fucking gun than here in the UK to get hold of a toy gun.

I’m not going to get too political, but things definitely have to change, but I’m not the one who can change them, I’m not American, I can’t go out and vote. But what I’m going to do, all I can really do, is remove the guns from my vlogs at least, which I know is stupid and petty and isn’t really going to achieve anything, but that’s what I’m going to do. My thoughts go out to the families of the dead and to the LGBT community as a whole because this is terrible and this keeps happening and it really shouldn’t and I hope things get better soon. And I hope that if you are in America, you help make sure something happens.
Tom's a good egg.
Shane:

And that destroys me because I can’t even fathom-- like, I couldn’t fathom somebody shooting one girl… now I have to fathom somebody shooting 50-- more than 50 people, killing 50 people-. For them being gay. Which-- I’m now a part of this world, I came out of the closet as bisexual, I’m now a part of that community. I... you know what I’m saying? So it hit me in a different way. Obviously it hit me because they’re people and I’m a person. But I also know what it’s like for people to hate me because of what I am.
I know Shane is problematic most of the time, but I like him best when he's being genuine and calm, when he's actually being human and not a caricature. The way he talks about Drew being his family in this video warmed my heart, and his and Garrett's friendship warms my heart. Imagine DnP having these captions on their instagram:

The actual L word, when will phan ever. And as far as I can tell (since it looks like maybe Shane is seeing that Rayland guy? maybe?) they are just friends- just two guys telling each other publicly that they're great and they love each other. Is that really so much to ask-

I really liked this video, he's honest and open and he's talking about things that we discuss a lot on this forum. So nothing new, nothing we didn't know, but I think it's cool that some youtubers dare to acknowledge the elephant in the room

PS haven't watched any of his other vids yet so I know nothing about his content

I appreciate this guy's honesty and if he had only talked about himself, i would have no problem with this, but the way he talked made it clear imo that he projects his experience onto all creators. Like it's impossible that there are people on youtube who have genuine fun making those stupid videos that get views, because they have the same stupid humour as those viewers.
Not everybody wants to be a filmmaker.

On top of that i don't like when youtubers complain about good quality content not getting the views and recognition it should, while easy, cheap content does. For some reason they always make it sound like that's just a youtube problem (like Jack Howard). But that's the case in literally all branches of media/art. Popular music and movies/tv shows tend to be bad as well, while artsy, "good" things aren't really mainstream. Of course, that's not always the case, every once in a while there are films and musicians that are artistically good and popular at the same time, but realistically that's rare.

That's just how entertaniment works and i have to admit that most of the things i like are mainstream and objectively not good. I like them anyway because i want to be entertained and after a long day at work and general adulting i don't want to use my head, just give me mindless entertainment plz

Also just because a video isn't original or well made doesn't make it bad. I still think one of the funniest videos on youtube is deppy's photobooth challenge, which is neither original, nor took it a lot of work and effort to make.

Lastly, there's nothing stopping anyone from making the content they WANT to make. If they don't want to give up money and views they get from more popular videos, they can just mix them as a compromise. Which is what this guy apparently has been doing.
Obviously he has a right to complain about this if he isn't happy about his situation, but i wish he wouldn't drag the rest of youtube into it.
Idk, i understand why creators who make art that is important to them are bitter about the collective "bad" taste of society, but that's just how it is (On every platform).

Wow they're really funny. Witty and also pretty adorable. I also like their satirical approach to a lot of things (like their relationship). They remind of D+P a little bit.

yay i made people watch gaby and allison!!!

i'd love for deppy to make a video like that, maybe about their cringe old 'llamas and lions s0 rand0m xD' brand, but lbr it looks like way too much effort in comparison to what they've been doing (video wise) lately

maybe the roast yourself challenge, that sounds more doable

So I wish I knew more about this guy, Calum McSwiggan, but I'll be honest and say I only started following him (put him on notifs even) on twitter a few days ago because he went to TATINOF with Doug Armstrong and I wanted to keep tabs on him in case he mentioned D&P:
But he just posted this:
calummcswiggan wrote:Last night was the worst night of my life and I'm really struggling to find the words to talk about it. After one of the most wonderful weekends at VidCon we went out to a gay club to celebrate, and towards the end of the evening I was separated from my friends and beaten up by three guys. The authorities should have been there to help and protect me but instead they treated me like a second class citizen. With three broken teeth and six stitches in my forehead, I've never felt so terrified to be a gay man in the public eye. All I can do is thank my wonderful friends @riyadhk, @melaniiemurphy and @douga_ for being with me the whole way. I'd be lost without them. Right now I don't feel that I'm in the right place to talk about this but I will be addressing this fully in the future.
and I feel sick. Once again, just in case I'm able to forget for even the briefest moment, I'm reminded that the world is an awful place and people are terrible things.

More about it from one of his friends:
Quoted if deleted:
@RiyadhK wrote:Haven't spoken about it at all but last night @CalumMcSwiggan was attacked by three guys outside a gay bar in LA. It was disgusting and..
Terrifying to see this shit still goes on in today's world and to one of my closest and dearest friends. He has three cracked teeth and
Stitches in his head but is safe and somewhat well with us now. Please please be safe when out with friends and don't get separated
These people knew where we were going to be because of our posts on social media before we went out and even said our names as they beat him
All of it awful, but this especially:
These people knew where we were going to be because of our posts on social media before we went out and even said our names as they beat him

Somebody please start complaining again about D&P (or anybody really) being too private and wary about posting their whereabouts online or overcautiousness/selfishness/whatever so I can flip out like I really want to.

How awful for him and what a shitty way to end what should have been an awesome experience in another country. It all just makes me so sad.
Thanks and have a great day! Oil me

fancybum I re-post it at the main thread as I think its very important for everyone to be aware of.

I hope Doug & others now will have to follow style of delayed tweets, as I think this may be one of the tweets that made the thugs aware

Thanks (sorry to be a downer though)
Melanie posted similar tweets: and mentioned snapping so it's possible they showed or named the club they went to as well? idk, but damn, don't those attackers have lives of their own? Where does the need to do something like that come from? I just don't get it. Scary stuff. I hope he heals up ok.

I do not follow Calum but I follow Doug & Riyadh, I doubt they would lie? Melanie Murphy too? Either all the youtubers lied or the police; both scenario leaves a bad taste :?

Doesn't seem like DA was actually there to witness anything (at least after reading through his tweets.) Was Riyadh or MM there when the alleged assault occurred? I haven't looked at their tweets, but it doesn't seem likely - it would be difficult for the police to discount witness statements. The cops in West Hollywood are probably the most gay friendly force in the country, so I wouldn't expect them to be trying to cover something up (although that's always a possibility, but difficult when cameras are installed in holding cells.) Anyway, I'm leaning to this was an "alcohol was a contributing factor" incident ( / blackout.)

As far as what I read through all the youtubers' (D,R & M) tweets they were not present during the assault itself, I guess we have to wait and see any follow-ups from them on this. I think its dumb of Calum to make up such a story knowing full well lies will be uncovered, he upload the photo and info not when he was intoxicated, so why did he lied? This is bad.

Always take with a grain a salt any story from someone intoxicated, with no witnesses, that happened "outside a bar".

The notion that a targeted hate crime happened outside the most popular and packed gay bar in LGBT haven WeHo is a stretch to begin with.
