I think this is Phil's way of . I'm pretty sure Dan was bombarded of tweets/messages regarding that iTunes issue the moment the phandom noticed it so they were already dealing with it.

Well, I don't know about anywhere else, but he is currently 10th on the Canadian hip-hop rap itunes charts. Kanye is 13th. lol

If I were him, I would've waited for it to reach #1, had a few entertainment news blogs write a clickbaity article about how a random British YTer's joke single surpassed all these big rappers, and gotten that publicity.

Could tell right off that wasn't him on iTunes. Aside from bulldozing his integrity after he said he wouldn't, the image was too handsome and arty for him to choose even ironically. I was more concerned about him having to deal with it, let a man get over pneumonia in peace, ffs. Amazing how high it's climbed, though. If he released anything, a piano album would be wonderful, though they sing well, it's hard to see them as singers like that. Also stretching it on the bandwagon front.

Re: iTunesgate: Yea, to whoever ripped the track to iTunes: FlipSide's lawyers are likely to go after you, scumbag. Agents normally don't like it when someone else is profiting off their client, and they're not getting their 10+%. Anyway, I'm sure that Apple will refund anybody who purchased it, and I kinda doubt that monies are immediately transferred to the alleged creator, so yea, they're gonna be fu*ked by both FS and more terrifyingly, Apple.

Obviously shame on them and that's a bad thing to do, and if their goal was to really profit from it then yeah, that's bad and horrible on a lot of different levels and they kind of deserve the backlash. Alternatively, I can't help but think this could potentially just be some teenage kid who didn't know any better and was just trying to pull a funny joke that they thought everyone would laugh at, but now they're getting lawyers threatened at them.

I don't know, I'm horrible about always sympathizing both sides of any situation. Someone feel free to convince me not to feel bad for them.

No, I feel kind of bad for them, too. As soon as I saw it, I thought a fan put it up as a joke... didn't realise the legal ramifications immediately. Kids on the internet try a lot of stupid stunts for attention (not saying everything they do online is for attention, but you know what I mean). I think maybe whoever put it up did it as an inside joke with friends ... i.e. "I'm going to put Dan's diss track on iTunes just for kicks; maybe it'll beat Kanye lmao." But yeah, if it was a fan, they definitely didn't think through the consequences of impersonating Dan and uploading a stolen song to iTunes for money. Like, you can get sued for that kind of stuff.

I also thought the cover art and title were quite obviously not Dan; can't understand how people could legitimately buy it. Maybe they didn't know about what he said in the ls ... but really. It's not his style, and you can rip it from the video anyway.

I've loved watching the iTunes track thing unfold, it's hilarious. It reminds me of that time Alex Day spent weeks of campaigning and marketing to try and get Forever Yours to Number 1 in the UK. He even created alternate versions contributing to the same single and only got to #4, with all of the marketing.

And here we have Dan. No announcement, no acknowledgement for a few hours, absolutely no marketing. And well, look.



It's two spots about Kanye. I hope he's proud. It also hasn't been taken down, but it hasn't moved in the charts since last night U.K time.

Also, let people buy it. It's their money, they can do what they want. Hopefully they'll be refunded but it was their choice to begin with.

I'd love it if they professionally recorded and released the Internet song though...

I don't think that's harsh. If someone has been making actual money off of this that's not a prank it's fraud.
It doesn't seem likely to me that it's just a kid who didn't really know what they were doing either. It must have taken a fair bit of effort to convince iTunes that they were really Dan. I hope we get a full explaination of what happened. I'm just curious really.

Totally agree - whoever this is planned to make some money off of it. If it was just a prank they could have put it on itunes for free. I don't feel sorry for people who commit fraud.
