re: voldy and the 'why can everything be proven by tweets if it was a genuine and personal video' question. In my opinion, Dan and Phil were the kind of people that put everything in social media back in 2009, so that's why. We all had a friend or two who would write 'Brb, I'm going to the toilet' on Facebook or Twitter, right? I sure did, so it doesn't feel weird to me that almost all the moments in the video can be tracked.
And people who think all the cutesy stuff was an act to get popularity: their bond wouldn't be this strong if from almost day one they had had that in mind, because their interactions wouldn't have been sincere. They would have been the British version of Lush and I'm sure they wouldn't be together today.
Back to lurking. Have a nice day guys!

Wasn't there also Phil's audition tape for the show (or some other reality show, maybe) he put up on Youtube, or do we have that?

Hi! I just want to say that bluebox-away, I really, really appreciate the hard work you put into finding the WL video. I have such admiration for your ingenuity and perseverance! You did what no one has been able to do for years and the phandom will be forever indebted to you.
As for the video, it was great! At first I was like, wow, he has no charisma! But then he started sassing Anne and my life was made. It made me so proud and happy when he was talking about how he wants to go into media and he makes videos online. But how could he not know what a pangram is? Lol
I've never appreciated his current hair so much.
I'm also strangely pleased that Dan and Phil didn't exaggerate or invent the llama/gnu anecdote.

Edit: IckleMissMayhem beat me to it!
I'm super curious to discover what they have for us during the tour. I'm trying to be cautiously optimistic, but not get my hopes up too much, haha.Kathrynxjane wrote: Seeing as they have finished the tour rehearsals,I am a bit more hopeful for some (not that many) gaming videos during the tour. They really have today and tomorrow to film loads and tbh they can edit on the bus if they need to anyway.
What do you guys think will be the next video from them anyway? A collab? A Phil vid? DAPG? Probably not Dan since he just uploaded....
Regarding voldy, did anyone else notice Phil admitting that he isn't a great prankster/only does low-level pranks in his recent liveshow. The amount of effort if voldy is actually a prank doesn't seem very low-level to me. I mean, it's possible that they just completely misjudged how the reaction to that would be and Phil thinks voldy is low-level, but still...

I like pranks like that, that don't make people sad or scared, or ruin their life too much. I'm quite a lame, low-level prankster. I mean, I don't really prank anyway. If it's going to happen, I'm low-level. I don't like to spoil someone's day. I'd rather someone was happen at the result of a prank, rather than scared or sad.

Ah, yes, that would be it. It was definitely cringy. I honestly don't hold out too much hope in the form of videos during the tour but we will get loads of other content such as photos from the m&g and reviews etc. I know Dan said they would film a few more gaming videos before they leave (I assume Phil is leaving this weekend) but unless they haven't slept at all I can't see them having filmed that many tbh. There will be some Dil/Undertale though, at least they can bulk film that and break it down into episodes.icklebrina wrote:

We can't force people to do anything but bluebox-away and I respectfully request that the WL link not be shared outside of IDB. Also be cautious of new posters/lurkers with few or no posts. As it took a great amount of effort to obtain we would like to keep the audience to IDBers for now.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Yeah, I really can't see them as being that manipulative of their audience, especially not back then. Their idea of a prank is to put up a phony crafting channel or put flour in someone else's hairdryer, I don't think maliciously queerbaiting sounds like their idea of a laugh. Also, I think it speaks for itself that Phil goes around trying to actively remove all traces of the video from the internet.....angrymob wrote:Regarding voldy, did anyone else notice Phil admitting that he isn't a great prankster/only does low-level pranks in his recent liveshow. faerietales good find. Wow laying the awk on thick! It reminds me so much of the cactus moment on IT, Phil dropping this bomb of a comment that seems innocent to anyone else, Dan's face filled with absolute panic while Phil refuses to look at him but has a tiny smile on like the cheeky thing he is. i live for that shit

Love is forever

That's be Bob Marley, wouldn't it? It's definitely from a song. I'm not sure what the frame on a tripod (??) would even be though, or was he just listening to music while doodling and writing some of the lyrics down.swofro wrote:I am pretty sure the word says no woman no cry, which is a quote from something. The face looks a bit like Homer Simpson.

No woman no cry and sauron's vagina eye... I mean can this get even more self explanatory?swofro wrote:I am pretty sure the word says no woman no cry, which is a quote from something. You just summed up my emotions about it very eloquently, so thank you. I think Phil was very hesitant to make it, which does suggest that Dan had either sent him a video or said something irl that warranted it.princenagi wrote:finally hopping on this train after a few weeks of skimming both forums bc i actually stumbled upon voldy today on a sort-of accident and have been desperate to wax poetic about it ;;
it might just be my romantic heart but boy do i think the emotion in that vid would be really ?? hard to fake i had to keep pausing every few seconds out of sheer guilt bc the look in phil's eyes was just so darn Genuine and vulnerable i felt like i was reading someone's diary tbh and his voice would get soft and shy but also so sweet and sheepish - i really can't imagine there wasn't some kind of strong emotion behind the stories he was telling it felt too real my dudes
his entire demeanor felt like the personification of that butterfly feeling in your stomach - the fond voice and shy smile, it was like you could see this bubbling excitement as he'd recall things but it was also so reserved like a flurry of embarrassment that he pressed on with bc he wanted to convey just how special these memories were and just how much warmth they filled him with and go sh this is sappy isn't it
aNYWAY it just felt really genuine and got me right in the chest to the point that i Still feel like i need to get a good scolding about minding my own business and hi hello i haven't actually been on a forum in like 5+ years but hey it seems cool here
That Pewdiepie video was cute, I remember watching him back when he made videos around that time (2012-ish)
[offtopic]I had a dream last night that I met D+P and my sister was with me, and she just got out her phone and started playing voldy for them. I was mortified and started apologizing and they were just kind of standing there wide-eyed... then my dream morphed into something else like zebras or something but those few seconds were

What I find really interesting/ironic is that, assuming Dan and Phil are in a relationship, the reason they have been able to stay in the 'glass closet' so long is precisely because of their massive, rabid shipping fanbase, not depite of it. 'Phan' shippers are lumped in with the likes of Larry and Jaspar shippers, written off as delusional, annoying teenage girls who will ship any two attractive guys who are within close proximity of each other. The idea of 'Phan' became more and more a joke to people, including other YouTubers, when 'Phan' became this massively popular, mainstream thing to ship. (Before Felix met Dan and Phil, for instance, I remember him talking about Dan and Phil in a video, being like: 'Everyone want to see them fuck, but it's never going to happen,' or something along those lines.) Dan and Phil keep this up by occasionally liking mildly romantic fanart on Tumblr and talking openly about reading their own fanfiction because, if they are were actually in a closeted relationship they would never do that, right? Not to mention that because of their sense of humor, people won't take anything they say seriously. It's actually incredible to me that Dan literally said that he only started watching an anime for the boys in speedos, and people still think he's joking. They are essentially hiding in plain sight, which is both impressive and massively stressful. I don't envy them on that front.rizzo wrote: tbh voldy frustrates me sometimes in that way where.... i'm truly impressed there are people who actively think phan isn't real, even with that being out in the world. literally any other couple... what an impressive feat of engineering this glass closet is. astounding.

Time as context also matters. At the time the video was posted, neither of them had fans in the same numbers or intensity. I'm sure there were some fans of Phil who were interested in their relationship not even six months in, but phan wasn't a thing as it is now, deep analysis and attempting to prove/disprove everything didn't happen for years on, after it leaked. So it's really not like Phil picked obvious things fans were already freaking out over and just talked about them.spider wrote:IckleMissMayhem wrote:re: That which must not be named...PolarFox wrote:That's exactly the thing that makes me question it - why would he mention all of that, what can be proven by tweets and db if it was personal video? in my own experience, people either 1) didn't really care about dan at all, 2) accepted that they were friends, 3) assumed they were dating and wanted to know more but again, didn't really care. the non fanbase viewers (meaning, like, people less involved in the community by not following dailybooth, tweeting ect) were kind of the only ones who thought 2 tbh. if you were more involved in the community then you were used to youtubers being a bit shady with relationships, so it didn't feel unrealisticalittledizzy wrote: At the time the video was posted, neither of them had fans in the same numbers or intensity. This is a great point. I hadn't thought of this before, but it certainly makes sense. Lots of people think that the only reason people ship them is because, like you said, they are two attractive males, and so the internet ships them. This cases them to write the whole thing off and it becomes a joke to them and they never bother to dig deeper. And if they did dig a bit deeper than they would find out that there are very legit reasons to ship them and to think that they are in a relationship. So I do think it helps them, that so many people ship them and especially teenage girls on tumblr, because those always just get written off and not taken seriously.bedhead91 wrote:What I find really interesting/ironic is that, assuming Dan and Phil are in a relationship, the reason they have been able to stay in the 'glass closet' so long is precisely because of their massive, rabid shipping fanbase, not depite of it. Was it filmed in 2010?
I haven't seen it and have no real wish to. Having this happen to anyone is a cringe-worthy scenario..
However,
Very nice elaboration, bedhead91 ! The whole thing is quite fascinating.
You know what though, I can't wait to see what everyone (especially Dan ofc) comes up with for Phil's 30th birthday
. (What they let us see that is.) It's quite far away but I'm planning a rather big celebration for a friend and I was reminded it was next year already.

Based on options 1 and 3, the entire concept of 'ooh, we're a couple!' as a prank is completely silly in the first place, then. And presumably the people that qualified for option 2 wouldn't have cared enough to make the prank actually successful.jaej wrote:in my own experience, people either 1) didn't really care about dan at all, 2) accepted that they were friends, 3) assumed they were dating and wanted to know more but again, didn't really care. the non fanbase viewers (meaning, like, people less involved in the community by not following dailybooth, tweeting ect) were kind of the only ones who thought 2 tbh. if you were more involved in the community then you were used to youtubers being a bit shady with relationships, so it didn't feel unrealisticalittledizzy wrote: At the time the video was posted, neither of them had fans in the same numbers or intensity.
